Good morning! Are you ready for Christmas?! Have you done everything you wanted to do to celebrate? I’ve shopped, looked at Christmas lights, sung songs, watched the Hallmark channel until everyone in the family has rolled their eyes at me at least once, baked, enjoyed friends, gone to parties, and thanked our Savior for each experience. I have really enjoyed the season.
But it’s almost time to say goodbye to the red and green and hello to a fresh new look in our home. I’m a little sad because I love how the house looks and feels during Christmas but I’m a little excited too. I think the cleaner scaled-back decor will be like a breath of fresh air. With that in mind, I was checking out the world wide web for some winter decorating ideas. Here is what I found. I think you’ll want to incorporate some of these ideas too.
Winter Decorating Ideas
The two above, found on HGTV, are excellent ways to use old sweaters for a winter decor idea. If you don’t have a white sweater, find an oatmeal or gray color. But don’t be afraid for a punch of color in winter. We need something cheerful to look at during those cloudy gloomy days. The limbs in the sweater covered vase are a fun winter decorating idea too.
This fun rustic idea was on Home Stories A to Z. The blocks look easy to make and have rich warm color to retain a cozy feeling. And I think the wreath is a perfect backdrop for a winter vignette. You could use a cotton wreath or one with only green stems too.
I really like the two above. They were part of a holiday decorating post from Evolution of Style Blog but I think fresh greens can take you all the way through winter.
These apothecary jars filled with winter foliage were found on Setting for Four. They have an elegance sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. I love this and plan to head to Home Goods to find a couple of these jars. One friend used hers to look like a snow globe. So cute!
7 Winter Decorating Tips
Keep or add more comfy throw blankets and neutral pillows.
A winter wreath always looks nice over a fireplace or on a front door.
Warm woods help cozy up the look of a room. And don’t be afraid to mix your woods.
Extra lighting helps too. Do you have a place you can add a lamp?
Place a wall or floor mirror opposite the windows for reflecting extra sunshine.
Layer your rugs! We have a cowhide over our jute rug for added warmth under our feet.
Don’t forget about a cocoa bar! You’ll use that fun and festive area for a couple more months.
I also have a short post with a few more winter decorating ideas from last year. If you’d like, you can see that here. Or you can follow me on Pinterest and see the Winter Decorating Board here. 🙂

Thanks Emily. I can’t believe it either. I’m not ready! I better get out there and fight the crowds before it’s too late. :/
Loved looking at all these ideas…white is always good, year ’round.
I plan to leave my Christmas decorations up a lot longer this year. I usually take my tree down the day after Christmas but not this year.
I decorated more this year as I had a big party for my Bunco ladies and I am really loving it all…..

I don’t blame you BJ. I love how ours looks too and don’t want to take it down. Except that Christmas tree. I’m ready to put it away because then I can get out the paint brushes and transform that ugly wall color! Merry Christmas!

Hugs to you too Marlene. Blessings!
Our Christmas decorations always stay up until January 6th which is Little Christmas and also my dad’s birthday. We lost my dad in June, but the tradition will live on in my home forever. After that, I’ll be anxious to rid my house of all the red and green and go with a very neutral look, as I do every year.

Gosh, it’s hard losing a parent and I know you miss your dad. I hope your wonderful tradition brings you unexpected joy this year. Merry Christmas Debbie
Hi Cindy! I’m in the middle of writing up our post from the tea the other day and am linking to this post ~ a perfect post for winter-time decorating for after Christmas!!! I had such a nice time with you and Laura and all the ladies this week ~ thank you for my flowers!!! <3 Somehow they got misplaced as Laura and I were packing the car to go shopping, but they were beautiful and I really would have liked to had them for our holiday table on Christmas. I know she will take good care of them and they will grace her table nicely. <3
Have a wonderful Christmas! I think you'll enjoy this post once it is up later today…
Love and Christmas hugs,
Barb 🙂
