When the leftover Christmas decor turns out to be your favorite look!
Hello Friends! Are you getting excited for Christmas? Me too! We came home on Sunday from Navasota and as soon as I walked in the house I was content. Pleased in seeing the house all ready for Christmas and basically clean. After a while I remembered how the dining room came together using all the leftover decor. So today I thought I’d share with you what happens when the leftover Christmas decor turns out to be your favorite look!
This year we’ll celebrate Christmas with our kids and have turkey and dressing on the day after Christmas in Navasota but with the rest of our family, we’ll have Christmas Eve lunch/dinner/supper which equals linner/lupper. I actually like lupper. That way I can have a guilt free snack and dessert at 7pm. Ha!
After stuffing our faces with Tex Mex food, we’ll clear the table, put away any leftovers then waddle upstairs to the game room for Christmas Bingo, team Pictionary and other games. It’s warm and comfy up there and people can spread out. This year I didn’t decorate that room and thankfully no one will care.
It’s all about Jesus and being together anyway, right? Absolutely!
Remember the whole I-want-our-house-to-look-like-Montana-for-Christmas idea? Well I was out of woodsy Montana decor. Plus, decorating two houses is hard work so compromises had to be made.
I had pulled out all the bins and what I thought looked woodsy and there wasn’t much to choose from. I figured I’d start with the main rooms and stretch it as far as I could then be done. That grand idea was all fine and dandy until I finished the family room and entry then realized I’d run out of woodsy stuff.
So when it came to the third room on the list, the dining room ended up with leftovers. I had two garlands, candles, some pinecones and cranberry wreaths left. I’d forgotten about making the little pine trees in the silver containers a few weeks ago so when I saw them the plan sort of changed.
The dining room was now going to have a rustic elegant look with touches of Montana thrown in. And guess what?!
It turned out that the leftover Christmas decor was my favorite room!
The focal point is always first as is the largest piece which was the galvanized sign from Hobby Lobby. Very sorry I cannot find a link for it. Hobby Lobby has the absolute worst website! Anyway, add a red berry garland with red candles and that makes a great Montana looking start. I could have used black candlesticks for the tapered candles but instead I thought real wood log slices would look better. Thanks to the Mister, it worked perfectly. I did purchase the light up cone trees from Kirkland’s and finally included the mini trees in silver creamers. If you want to see that easy mini pine tree DIY, click here.
Last but not least was the table. I had one last garland, a few antlers and pinecones which completed the centerpiece. I used plastic silver charges given to me by my bestie when she was purging things before their big move and the rest were all pieces I’ve had for some time. The napkins were found at Home Goods last year but those beautiful antler napkin rings came from Nancy O’s Interiors in Bigfork, MT. Yep, another fabulous thing to remember that fabulous trip!
Well that’s it friends. I love how the leftover decor turned out and I’m looking forward to the Christmas Eve celebration with my family. Hope you are loving your decor too!
Happy Decorating and Merry Christmas!
Very nice, Cindy! I love everything about this room’s Christmas decor. You are so right about HL’s website – really bad. Merry Christmas to you & yours!

Thank you Rita. Isn’t it crazy that HL does that? I can understand there are so many items it would be difficult but they should really spend the time and money to take care of that. I’d purchase a lot more stuff if they did. LOL. Maybe it’s a good thing now that I think about it. Merry Christmas!
I love your tablesetting. The cardinal napkins really bring out joyful Christmas. I also have those black and white salad plates and the etched glasses!
Author
Oh my goodness Julie, I love those etched glasses! I got an entire set including the wine and champagne glasses from my MIL. Do you use yours? I think they are beautiful. Thanks for popping in and commenting. Makes my day!
Sheesh!! I’ll take your leftovers anyday!! It looks wonderful and like you planned it that way from the get go. You totally nailed the rustic elegance to go with your Montana woodsy.

Awe, thanks bunches Patricia. I really didn’t plan it and used the leftovers. Did you notice those beautiful silver chargers you gave me? Sorry, no take backs. LOL!
It looks beautiful and woodsy, your better than you think and it is all about Jesus birth and enjoying family.

Merry Christmas Marlene. Thank you for the visit and sweet encouragement. Big hugs!
I LOVE the woodsy theme for Christmas, just about my favorite look for winter. Your cardinal napkins and black/white tablesettings are gorgeous. I don’t know how you decorate 2 houses and travel back and forth between the two. Game time after lupper sounds like tons of fun!

Thank you Debra. I am loving the woodsy theme too. I’ve gotten used to the traveling and on average only do it twice a month and make sure we are there more than a few days at a time. I think if it were more frequent or stayed less days it would be terrible. Stay healthy and safe!
No one would ever know that you used leftovers for this room. It looks beautiful! I love your Christmas napkins and the antler napkin rings.

Then I had to go and open my big mouth – LOL. Thanks so much Paula. I’m tempted to make the rest of the family either use paper napkins or eat only white food so they don’t ruin the napkins. 😉
I appreciate your dining room decor! The antlers and greenery, the woven chargers, and the black and white plates all came together for a very festive look. I can’t wait to be there on Christmas Eve. Get the Christmas Bingo ready!

Everything is ready and I’m looking forward to not cooking all day!
I love it too! I especially love your napkins with the plaid salad plates. Great job!
Author
Thank you Miche. When I got those black and white plaid plates a couple of years ago I almost didn’t buy them thinking I wouldn’t use them all that much. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how often they work with my decor. Hope you have a blessed Christmas
Fun tablescape, Cindy. Love the deer napkin rings. Everything has been leftovers this year!! Shows how resourceful we can be. Merry Christmas sweet friend.

Yeah! We are “resourceful”! Thank you for the positive reminder. I love it!
I love everything about your dining room, Cindy! I’m really into the “woodland” looking this year for Christmas, and you did it wonderfully!
Thanks for the inspiration!

No one would ever know that there were leftovers here. It’s all so beautiful. I love your table. Pinned. Thank you for sharing at Charming Homes and Gardens.

Glad to do it Kim. I enjoy all the inspo at your party. Merry Christmas
Cindy, you would never know this was the leftover room. It looks merry and cozy, the perfect place for a festive holiday meal.
Yes I agree about HL website-it’s always so disappointing.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New-Year

Isn’t that crazy that HL would have that?! Wish someone would convince them to hop into this century! 😉 Thanks for the visit Rachelle.
