Can you believe Thanksgiving is almost here?! It seems like I was just complaining about the heat from July 4th! We looked into ordering a turkey then saw the price. For the amount of people that are going to be here, it’s either order two of their turkey’s or pay the rent for one of our kids’ college campus housing. So obviously the Mister and I were at the grocery store last night. Y’all, I think we are going to have a lot of leftovers. His favorite thing is the dressing and he asked for me to triple it. TRIPLE IT people – wow. I hesitantly said okay and bought several more boxes of cornbread. Therefore, today’s post is what to do with the leftover turkey dinner.
What to do with the leftover turkey dinner
I started looking on Pinterest. I am amazed at the skills some of y’all have. There are so many recipes to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites I think sound pretty good.
This Turkey Shepherd’s Pie from Baked By Rachel sounds yummy. I bet we have left over mashed potatoes too so this will be super easy to make!
This one by Carrie’s Experimental Kitchen caught my eye for sure. I love all kinds of chicken salad so why not a turkey salad?! It has pecans! This is a definite must in my book.
The Kitchen is My Playground came up with a scrumptious looking turkey noodle recipe. Doesn’t it look delicious? Reminds of the days when I was little and my mom made Tuna Casserole. I thought that was her best dish. But I also thought her meatloaf was good. My knowledge of what was good and what wasn’t all came in to question when I was in high school.
One evening my mom announced we were having meatloaf again and my dad said, Jean, I’ve hated your meatloaf for years and never want it again. I know you’re thinking – well that’s harsh. But he said it in a loving way. She was just as shocked as I was. Who couldn’t love her meatloaf? Well to make a long story short, I never got her meatloaf again. 🙁
Oh well. On to the next delicious looking recipe. You know I’m a Texas girl so nachos will always be a good idea. Except maybe the jalapenos. No thanks. But reading this recipe by My Kitchen Craze makes me think twice! Yum.
Just a Taste had me at the word cheddar biscuit. Looking at it makes me think of a good ol’ southern luncheon with the ladies. I could use the biscuit mix I brought home from Georgia. The Mister and I ate at The Lady and Sons. That’s Paula Deen’s restaurant for those who aren’t butter lovers. Those biscuits were amazing. I didn’t want to look crazy so I only bought three boxes of the mix from her store. I may or may not have already bought more online. That was way back in the summer. 😉
There’s a nice variety listed here so it don’t feel like we’ll be sick of having turkey again and again. Fingers crossed we don’t need every recipe. Surely we won’t have that much food left over? If we do, we need to rethink the grocery list. But, just in case, I have lots more on my Pinterest Board. If you need more ideas, check it out.
Now you have made my day, i pinned some of these so i would have them, yummy yummy, thanks Cindy.

Say whaaaat? I don’t make your day every time you read my blog posts? JK. I know some of us need savory tummy inspiration and not a bunch of sweet eye candy all the time. LOL. Have a great weekend Marlene and thanks for Pinning!
Those are some wonderful recipes! The hubster likes his leftover turkey only one way…on a white bread sandwich with mustard and Lays potato chips! It is also his internal signal that the Christmas season has o-fficially began…he said until that sandwich happens, he doesn’t want to see one Christmas decoration…LOL

Hahahahahahhaha Benita! Well he said it and that’s it! If that were the case around here, I’d have to have turkey for Halloween just so I could add some Christmas decor! 🙂
Some lovely recipes thank you.
We don’t have Thanksgiving here in the U.K. I think it’s a lovely traditional holiday that we should adopt! We do have mostly turkey at Christmas. I do love a turkey sandwich though like your previous reader.

You should write the powers that be and get Thanksgiving a holiday! It really is special and a time for people to reflect on all the many blessings they’ve received and appreciate their loved ones. As for me, my fave sandwich is plain white bread with mayo, a little mustard and warm turkey. That’s it, nothing else in it. Mmmmm. I can hardly wait! Thanks for reading Shirley. Readers are one of my the blessings I’m grateful for! ❤️
Yum!!!! I can’t believe it’s so soon either yikes where is the time going? Have a blessed Thanksgiving my friend ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Barbara. You too!
Great suggestions Cindy. Although our left over turkey go-to is a good old turkey sandwich on toasted bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato. It’s a once a year sandwich. Pinned.

I bet YOUR turkey sandwich somehow tastes way better than most. Thanks for the Pin!
Great ideas! I normally make two things with our left over turkey. One turkey soup and the other turkey poulet. I will have more options since reading your blog. Thanks girl.

What is turkey poulet? I’ve never heard of it. Turkey soup sounds good too. Especially this time of year. Enjoy! 😀
amazing recipes you have there, thank you for sharing with us I think thanksgiving leftovers are as much a part of the holiday as the feast itself.
