Well thanks to one of my neighbors, I’m all depressed. She said this coming Saturday was going to be 105 degrees! What the cuss?! That doesn’t usually happen until July or August around here. Uuuuugh! So today’s post will be ushering in summer with cool blue colors so I can walk into a room and instantly feel better since I’ll probably be sweating a river between my legs.
Let me first say, I do not change out everything in my home to reflect the new trends or the seasonal color chosen for that particular year. No way. I do however like to incorporate a few new colors or change things around so I will enjoy all the time I’m going to be spending inside.
Ushering in summer with cool blue colors
This year I see a lot of blue and white, blue and blush, blue and fuchsia, blue and green and blue and yellow. Maybe because blue reminds us of the ocean. It’s tranquil, it’s cool, and comes in all different shades.
The first place I’ll check for cool colored decor is in my own home. You may have blue vases, bowls, plates, jars or bottles.
Maybe a blue throw blanket or pillows. What about blues you may have used in your Easter decor or in your patriotic goodies?
Because my kitchen is a very bright blue, I typically use aqua accents in the surrounding rooms so instead of my kitchen looking like I was hit in the head when I chose that color, it looks intentional. Yikes and that’s a long story for another time.
Do you have books that are blue? How about wrapping paper or fabric you can put in a frame for wall art?
Do you have a blue table cloth, runner or place mats?
Maybe in your linen closet you have sheets or pillow cases. I’ve said this before – you don’t have to use them as intended. You can use a sheet as a table cloth or fold it and use as a table runner. The pillow cases can be slipped over the back of a chair. This is personally one of my favorite ideas and when I come across some I love – I’m doing it!
You may even have an old planter, pot or decor item you could spray paint blue. Back in my red and gold phase, this clock was red. Now it works with my summer blues. This red tin star was heading for the give away pile but with left over paint it works.
I have a vintage jar full of buttons that reminds me of the ocean. Like in the song, God Bless America! Sing with me – To the oceans, white with foooooooaaaam. Get it? Anyway, it makes the clear jar with the antique blue pin stand out a bit more too.
I hope you find fun items in your home that are whatever color you want to use this coming season. Whether or not you usher in the summer with cool blue colors or keep it bright and happy like beach blankets and popsicle’s, make it you and make it cheerful.
Then you’ll be like me and get along a little better with the summer heat! π
Good Morning!
I know I am all depressed too! lol! But with these gorgeous cool blue suggestions I just bet we can beat the Summer heat!

Well Jemma, I sure won’t be out in a beautiful garden like yours. We don’t have one anyway but I’m stepping out only to the garage to get in the car and from the car into the store. That’s it! Thanks for stopping by today. See you soon?!
Love the aqua. Very pretty and light and cheerful. Happy New Week.

Thank you Kris. We have to do something around here to keep us cheerful.
I know it is going to be hot in Okla. too. I will have to get up early to water my veggies and flowers and then go back to bed,ha! I love your blues they did make me feel cooler. I have some old blue jars and plain ones with buttons, i love old buttons. Stay cool, go wade in a creek somewhere, that would be fun.

Wading in a creek would require getting out and that’s not happening. Although the Comal River down south is spring fed, clear and super cold so that is a possibility. But I’m thinking a vacation in Antarctica would be perfect. Thanks for popping over today!
I always chuckle reading your posts, Cindy! You always seem to brighten my day. You need a pool party at my house to lift your spirits!!

LOL Laura. I guess thatβs a compliment?! JK. Pool party sounds great! You may be sorry that I have that in writing. π
The blue/white table is gorgeous!! I use shades of aqua in my master suite, but the rest of my home has brighter colors. I find the aqua in my master suite so peaceful and calming – and anything that helps me get a better night’s sleep is a winner to me!

It’s weird that through the years I’ve never been a fan of blue. I tended to go for neutrals or green but with the redo of our bedroom I went with blue and LOVE IT! It is so peaceful and serene. And with that crazy kitchen, blues have crept in all over. So I guess I like blue now. π
Oh, that wee aqua chair has captured my heart! Yes to all the blue. I too am adding it in abundance here at Storybook Cottage.

I know, that chair is adorable! And I saw your bathroom re-do with the blue yesterday! It’s gorgeous and certainly a tranquil place to be. Thanks Laura for popping over!
I love all the blue… your table and that small chair. I hate the heat right now…and it’s only May! Here’s hoping that you keep cool!

Thanks Tammy. I think Iβm going into hibernation. π
I can’t believe the heat. Your blue scheme is tranquil and I hope it has a cooling effect.

Thanks Katie. I bet your new stenciled dining room will have that effect! Let’s hope this week isn’t what the rest of summer will be like.
Hello! So excited I found your blog through Stonecroft Marketplace on Facebook. Your farmhouse is so charming!
I guess I would be considered your “neighbor” since I too live in Navasota, in fact, on County Road 409. Small world!!

That is exciting and we should totally have lunch sometime! I bet I’ve driven by your place on the 4-wheeler. Since the Mister knows every road from there to Anderson and beyond, we check them all out every once in a while when it’s cooler. It’s very pretty terrain. So glad you told me we are neighbors! π
