The Farmhouse Christmas Tour

Merry Christmas Friends!  Today I’m re-sharing a post from last year since I’ve gained quite a few brand new subscribers and have had a few requests for it.  It’s thrilling just to be able to say that – new subscribers and requests!  Thank y’all so much for being interested in my blog.  I greatly appreciate it.  So getting passed the blah blah, here’s the Farmhouse Christmas Tour.

Some of you know the Mister is inheriting his families, almost 100 year old, farmhouse in Navasota, TX and we’ve been slowly fixing it up. Well last year was our first Christmas there and I had so much fun decorating it.  Yes it was a lot of work but what is work if you enjoy every bit of it?!

Let’s start with a proper Christmas greeting.  Welcome to the porch.

Farmhouse Christmas Front Porch

The porch is where we like to spend the majority of our time so it needs to be comfy cozy.  We double up on blankets for the night time chilly air and try and have a surface within reach for everyone’s hot chocolate.  I also want to surround myself with holiday cheer so the cranberry trees and the trees in the yard are radiant at night.

I tend to go a bit crazy with the fresh greenery cut from the surrounding pastures. Why not when it’s free?!  It gets added to anything that will hold it, where I can hang it or where it can sit without poking anyone.  πŸ˜‰

One of my favorite things is the DIY light fixture.  It hangs there all year so it needed embellishments too.  Look at those ginormous pine cones!  Actually they’re sugar cones found at Hobby Lobby.  I’ve never seen such but they got a little fresh greenery as well.

If you can stop yourself from sitting down and enjoying the porch, you’ll walk through the front door right into the one and only living area.  I find it calming to sit there now.  Before, not so much.  If you want to see the oh-my-lanta before pictures, you can check them out here.

You’re greeted with a banner, touches of red decor and more of that fresh greenery all around the room.

I love the small details in here.  There are vintage tins hanging above the windows, an old shelf to give character over our bedroom door, and pieces found in antique stores with stories of a great past, I’m sure.  We use stools for tables and old frames for art work; all bringing the coziness I desire.

Farmhouse Christmas Dining Room

When you walk under the banner you are in the dining room which is smack dab in the middle of the little ol’ farmhouse.  When it was the Mister’s great-grandmothers home it was located on the back of the house.  You can tell that from the windows.  Then when it was his grandmothers house they added indoor plumbing and a bathroom off the back porch.  Thank heavens for that!  If you’d like to see the no-one-could-have-had-an-appetite-in-that-dining room, you can see those before pictures here.

The back porch is now an enclosed “mudroom” which makes it so much nicer when you come inside through the back of the house.  Now you aren’t immediately walking into the kitchen.  I love old houses but sometimes it boggles the brain where they built things.

I told you I go crazy with the fresh greenery!  Look at that light fixture.  I LOVE IT!  It makes you feel as though you’re dining in a romantic restaurant.  Minus not having a cook, a waiter, and having to do the dishes but I still LOVE IT!

To keep the centerpiece simple, I used an old ironstone serving bowl and added candles, plastic ornaments, antlers and greenery.  The woodland plates came from Hobby Lobby.  They were actually the inspiration for the entire table decor.  The plaid table cloth isn’t a table cloth.  I couldn’t find one I liked so I bought 2-1/2 yards of flannel fabric to use instead.  Turned out to be a lot less expensive too.

Last but not least, when we have visitors, there’s a fun “snack” table.  Would you like a snack table?  All you need is a separate table decorated with Christmas cuteness and then with whatever snacks your little heart desires or whatever the Mister wants.  πŸ˜‰  Hint: We use cups instead of plates for easier handling.

All the time I was decorating, I thought of my hubbies family and how they would have decorated.  I’m sure they would have enjoyed how bright and cozy and fun and colorful it is.  I also thought maybe I should string cranberries and popcorn for the Christmas tree.  Then I came to my senses and said how about a trip to Hobby Lobby instead.

Merry Christmas to you!

I love your Christmas decor! And your little country home. I wish I was there sitting on that porch, love everything about it! It would be nice to have some hot coffee or cocoa there and enjoy your beautiful countryside.

It is so nice when we get to sit and rock the day away with nothing to do. Come visit and I’ll make you some coffee or cocoa. Well actually the Mister will. I’m not so good at that. But your mug will be cute! πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the sweet compliments.

I’ve not heard of Kurten, TX but looked it up and it’s only like 35 minutes away! How cool! What do you do there for fun? Should I come shopping there? I love it when people are close and know the places I’m talking about. πŸ™‚

Thank you for this inspiring post. Love it! Wish I had a covered front porch. It’s my favorite

Thank you Kay – Inspiration is the goal! It is nice having a porch to sit on. We certainly don’t get the same feeling or view on the porchette in Highland Village. Merry Christmas and thanks so much for commenting. It means a lot!

So beautiful and charming! What a blessing that you are able to live in a home that has been in the family for so long! Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks Vicki. Some days it feels charming and some days a pain in the behind. But isn’t that life? Maybe one day I’ll be able to describe it as a blessing. The Mister definitely loves it!

I envy you your front porch! You have made that dining room so lovely! Love the greenery, the white frames framing smaller treasures and that pie safe. Glad you left the glass in! The black and white/red and green are great combos for the holidays, but timeless, too! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

    • December 11, 2018 / 2:27 pm

Thank you Kathy! I debated a long time whether or not to leave the glass in the pie safe. Glad you like it. Your sweet comments have made my day. Thanks again!

What a lovely post. I love old houses. They are so quirky in their layout when they added bits to them! I love the way you have decorated this house. Do have a wonderful Christmas and an amazing 2019.

    • December 11, 2018 / 2:36 pm

Thank you Nancy! If you look under the house you can see a giant tree running the length of it used as a floor beam. I think that’s pretty cool. Merry Christmas!
