What did y’all do this weekend? I played around creating a simple blue and white tablescape using mismatched dishes! I know I’m weird but it’s those unusual quirks that make me, me!
It all started because last weekend, April 23rd was National Record Store Day. Confused yet? Keep reading. My middle child is collecting vinyl’s. Can you believe vinyl’s are a new thing? Me either but because she had to work and my youngest was being an awesome sister by doing the record hunting for the collector sister, I dropped her off at Mad World Records in Denton TX. No, I wasn’t standing with her. I’ve lived long enough to realize I like Sirius XM more than vinyl’s plus it gave me a chance to do a little shopping on my own.
I came across this floral vase at Garden Gate on the square. I like it because it reminds me of 3 ginormous medicine bottles. Cool huh?
That meant this weekend I’d be going to the grocery store to find beautiful blooms. And boy did I. These huge hydrangeas were sold in bunches of 3 so I snatched those babies up and decided to have a little fun.
Since the flowers were blue and white, that makes it easy to choose a color inspiration. Oh by the way, if you want step by step instructions on how to style a table, check out my other post.
Then it was off to the cabinets grabbing my stash of dishes. Look at these bowls. Aren’t they cute?! They’re Owls!
I only have 4 of those but you know white dishes coordinate well together so here are 2 different bowls to fill our table.
Love these too! The napkins and table runner came from Pier 1.
Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. You can see the runner and napkins are two different floral patterns but because one is large, the other small and both are blue and white, they work well together.
Check out the oval luncheon plate. You can put a sandwich on one side and chips on the other or soup in a bowl with crackers or a pasta salad with veggies or hello… ice cream and birthday cake! So adorable and endless options.
I always play around with where to put the napkins and flatware along with switching out placemats too. There you have it, a super simple blue and white tablescape using mismatched dishes. And now for an added bonus! Below is a totally delicious recipe if you’d like to have a luncheon.
Savory Chicken Squares
Ingredients:
- 3 ounces of cream cheese (softened)
- 6 tablespoons margarine (melted) (save part to glaze top of rolls)
- 2 cups cooked chicken (canned or a rotisserie chicken works well)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon chives (chopped)
- 1 tablespoon pimento (diced)
- 1 can of crescent rolls
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients together. Take two crescent rolls and seal them together by pinching them across the dotted line. Put the mixture on the roll and fold it up like a diaper. Twist the top and pinch the edges together . Glaze the top with left over melted butter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 – 25 minutes.
My sweet friend Brenda Leonhart put this recipe in our Women’s Ministry recipe book 30 years ago. It is still one of my faves. Just wait until you try it. You’re going to wish crescent rolls came 5 times bigger so instead of getting glares from the other ladies when you ask for another, it’ll already be big enough. Oh and by the way, don’t let them catch you licking the plate either. I guess that’s frowned upon in my social circles. 😉 Enjoy
Oh this looks so pretty! Thanks for sharing at #iDIYedthat.
