Well today is the last day in October. Can you believe it’s already November, then soon Thanksgiving, then Christmas?! Goodness gracious – life needs to slow down. Today I thought I’d show you my newest pumpkin purchase. It was 50% off. ๐ Even though it’s soft and squishy, it’s not quite my style. So here’s how I’m personalizing a store-bought pumpkin to suit me.
Personalizing a store-bought Pumpkin
I don’t think it’s ugly. I actually love the soft sweater fabric with the shabby seams, the plaid leaves and it’s size. The leatherette stem is the only thing that doesn’t quite work with my style of decor. The check out lady and I talked about it when I bought it. She actually checked the price twice and said – wow, we’re giving this thing away!
Yay me!
I always have a spool of twine in my stash of craft supplies. Twine is awesome! I think I used about 2 feet to cover the stem. Start at the bottom and tie a half knot leaving the end a bit longer. Enough to grab onto later.
Simply wrap the twine letting it sit on itself and not over lap around the stem as you wrap up to the top. I wanted to leave the dark top of the stem showing for added contrast in color plus wrapping the stem would be more difficult if I hadn’t. Yes, I’m a lazy crafter.
After wrapping the entire stem, I pulled the last of the twine down to the bottom and tied it to the left over string from the first half knot. If the extra string bothers you, it can be snipped off or tucked under. I think it turned out beautifully. I wish I could take it back to the store and show the check out lady. She’d like it too.
See how personalizing a store bought pumpkin is easily done? I don’t think I have a lot of creativity but I do like things that are slightly different from all the others you see out there.
This sweater pumpkin was inexpensive ($12) and easily changed to suit my style.

Awe, I hope that precious one gets better soon. It’s so hard taking care of an animal that can’t talk human! Thanks for the sweet compliment and cuddle up with that little one. Big hugs.
So unique and soon to be trendy! I love the personal things you do.
