Today is June 10th so that means it’s time for Ten on the Tenth a.k.a. let’s push Cindy out of her comfort zone and see if she can come up with a craft for under $10! Goodness me, this is always so hard. Since it’s difficult for me, I decided to make it extra easy on myself and on you with this super fun-n-festive idea. I can’t believe I haven’t done this before and once you see it, I bet you wonder the same thing. Start the drum roll please… bdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbd… We are celebrating America this year by using patriotic plasticware with Washi tape!
Say whaaaaat?! I know, right! It sounds fanciful.
Patriotic Plasticware with Washi Tape
These will be perfect when I set up our July 4th patriotic sitting area again. Everyone will think I’ve got it all goin’ on. So let me show you how easy it was to make these cuties.
Supplies Needed:
Patriotic Washi Tape , Scissors, tissue paper, toothpicks, and plasticware.
4 Easy Steps
Step #1: I started with the toothpicks first. I cut out a 2″ square piece of tissue paper. Leave a half inch strip across the top that isn’t cut. You don’t want individual strips.
Step #2: Put the tooth pick in the middle of the cut out tissue paper and fold over in half.
Step #3: Roll it up as tightly as you can.
Step #4: Cut a small piece of Washi tape and wrap it around the toothpick and tissue paper. Make sure to use the Washi tape to grab part of the wood on the toothpick. If not, when you pull on it, the fire-crackin’ cuteness will come right off.
Once I made the first toothpick the rest were finished pretty quickly. However, I got bored so I only made about a dozen. I’ll do more as July 4th gets closer.
I liked using the Washi tape so much, I pulled out our clear plastic tongs and fancified them too! One cool thing about the tape is that it sticks well until you want to remove it. Then it comes right off and doesn’t leave behind a sticky residue.
SO EASY AND SO CUTE!
I know, I’m a genius but now onto the patriotic plasticware! Seriously, there are so many combinations for making your utensils so festive looking.
Depending on the tape you buy I think it looks more vibrant on the white utensils. I didn’t try red but you know I will. Oh, and clear! I have that so it’s next. ๐
You’ll notice when I got around to taking a picture of the snack tray, the sausages were almost all eaten! The thief thought I was finished. Ha! Glad they were good.

You are a genius!! This would never dawn on me and it looks amazing. I need to grab some tape pronto!
Author
The only reason I made them was because I saw the big horns with the paper fringe on the ends. But I’ll take genius. LOL! Thanks Kim.
Cindy, what a cute idea. The ways to use Washi tape always amaze me. Such a simple DIY but so pretty on a table.

I’ve never used Washi tape but now that I have a few rolls of it, I’m looking for more ways. I think I’ll even use it on gift wrap. Hope your week gets better.
This is an easy idea to make your party festive!

Yep! And it’s so easy even the kids would love helping. Let’s put their little fingers to work!
Festive and fun! I love all things that celebrate America! Cute, cute, cute!

I was even wearing a red, white and blue shirt when I made them. That makes me extra patriotic, right?!
Cindy!!! I love how simple this idea is… I have never used washi tape but I look at them when I pass by in craft stores and at the big box stores (when they have them); I need to remedy this! Super easy and this would be fun for kids to put together!
Enjoy your 4th with your family,
Hugs,

Yes Barbara, you need to remedy not having Washi tape! I’m already finding new ways to use it. At Joanne Fabrics, they have rolls and rolls and rolls of it. Just make sure it’s 50% off!
Cindy, this is too cute! I have never thought about decorating the plastic utensils I have but have always tried to go buy more with some decoration on it, which is crazy. I love this idea so much better! I’ve never tried Washi tape and need to start! I’ve seen so many posts about it but have never bought any. I’m inspired and encouraged now! Hugs!

I’ve done the same thing – looking for decorative plasticware to use. Never again! It’s one of those DIY’s you can get the kids to do while you’re taking a nap! Sound about right Roy? LOL! ๐
The 4th of July industry, will be calling you from now on for help!! These are so cute, and your family and friends will love them.

LOL Marlene, you crack me up. I wish they would call. Happy 4th!
Cindy, you just made my day! My daughter just asked me about helping her with a cookout at her new home for July 4th. This is something we are going to do….thanks for sharing. Love this!

Yay Terrie – I’m so glad you were inspired! I got my Washi tape at Joanne Fabrics and they were 50% off. But I bet you’ll find this tape in lots of different stores in your area. Have fun!
I was just wondering if you have considered promoting projects that are more environmentally friendly. There is a worldwide movement to eliminate plastic, especially one use plastic.

Hi Linda. I’m glad you asked because I am a big recycler and want to do my part to take care of the planet God gave us. The Washi tape will look great on everyday flatware or silverware if you’d like to use that. And now days if you purchase a good set of plasticware (like the one I showed), you can even put it in the dishwasher and reuse it over and over. Melamine is also a great option for multiple uses. With the toothpicks and tissue paper, I used recycled paper that had been used in multiple gift bags already. It’s a joke around here – how many times do I have to see this bag and tissue paper before I get something new?! LOL. We are trying! Hope that answers your question. Thanks!
Such a simple idea that makes a huge statement!! Clever!
