Howdy Friends! We finally dipped down into the 70’s and I am one happy girl! Seriously, h.a.p.p.y. And with the excitement of cooler temperatures here in Texas, I’m joining Amber from Follow The Yellow Brick Home to bring you the Embracing Fall Home Tour. It’s a blog hop where each friend is showing their fall creativity. Let’s get started so you can find some inspiration in our fall family room. But first, if you are hopping over from Decor To Adore, then welcome, I’m so glad you’re here!
Our Fall Family Room
I’ve been feeling late to the ball this year. Late figuring out what colors I wanted to use, late in digging out what I already have in the attic and late buying pumpkins from the store. I think it’s partly because I used to have all the kids drag down the fall bins but now that it’s just the Mister and me, I had to do it myself. Bleh.
I finally did it and went to work while the Mister was in California. I hesitate saying this out loud but I will anyway – I kind of enjoy when he has to leave for a trip because I like me time. That sounds bad and I love having my guy here working from home each day but I get so much more done when he’s gone. Anyone else feel me or am I just mean?
Do y’all remember the fall color combinations I posted a couple of weeks ago? My favorite photo was the wheat field with dark gray skies. That photo was my inspiration this year but when I put together the mustard yellow with the dark gray pillows, it wasn’t enough fall for me. That’s why I added small touches of orange in various places. Now when I look at our family room, I get a cozy feeling but I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m a pillow hoarder.
The right color, shape and size pillow can make all the difference in a room. It took me a couple of tries to get the colors just right. The first batch was way to bright and looked springy. The second batch were basic and boring. Third time’s charm though. I like the pattern on the mustard gold pillows against the texture of the velvet gray. And I’m sure the ladies at Home Goods are glad I’m not in that long return line again.
The sconces on the mantel are made from old wood and are hand forged iron. Doesn’t that sound all fancy and old world at the same time? They were my favorite find from Vintage Market Days last weekend in Decatur, TX. I realized the booth that made them has a store called Kerr’s Home, Inc. located in Montgomery, TX which I’ve passed several times since it’s only about 30 minutes from us in Navasota! I can hardly wait to get back there and see the Christmas decor.
The gray buffalo check chairs from Pier 1 are so comfy. Not comfy like curl-your-feet-up squishy but comfy for those of us that are short and like our feet touching the ground. Here’s an affiliate link to them if you’d like to check them out. The adorable skirted ottoman link is here and they both come in black and white too.
This year for something a little different and saving another nail hole in the wall, I sat a square pumpkin print on the table behind the lamp. I like the added depth and extra color. I often sit prints on tables and on bookshelves as a backdrop to other pieces.
As you can see our family room is open to the breakfast room and kitchen. Wheat and gold colors work well with our bright blue wall color and are my favorite to use.
Now it’s time to head on over to The Painted Hinge. You will love her amber jars and farmhouse look. Then don’t forget to come back and check out the others below for more fall inspo!
Happy Fall Decorating Friends!
Cindy that pillow with the appliqued sunflower and pumpkin is darling. Those cute chairs have me whistling Buffalo Gals. Also, if you need someone to help to carry your packages I’m up for a trip to Kerr’s Home Inc. Hope to get together soon!
Author
Buffalo gals won’t you come home tonight, come home tonight, come home tonight… I know that one! Glad you’re home, safe and sound! Kerr’s Home would be quite the trip for you but if you’d like to stay the weekend in Navasota with me, it’s a deal! Got that pillow last year at Pier 1 (of course). π
The pumpkin print is lovely, and art on wood like this is so easy to display without putting another nail in the wall. Your room looks so welcoming and inviting. I love the gray check fabric on your chairs and they blend so well with the mustard yellow. I used to think I was a pillow hoarder, but have changed my ways and opted for different covers. They are bargain priced and don’t take up nearly the amount of storage space!!
Author
I am definitely going to start doing the pillow cover thing. I am out of room! Do you get yours on Etsy? I’ve shopped online before but my problem is the wait and the fear of them not being what I thought I wanted. I need to feel them and see them in person first. Is there a better way? It took me two trips just to get these. Tell me your secret Chloe!
Wow Cindy the whole room is fabulous!!! You totally got me excited for fall!!!
Author
Yay Pam, glad you like it and are getting the fall feels. We had the windows open last night and it was fantastic! I’m so excited! If I could add a dancing girl gif I would but you’ll just have to imagine my little jig. π
Cindy, everything looks amazing!! I LOVE those gray and white checked chairs! They are so cute! Where did you get them?
All of your fall touches are just perfect!! So much prettiness!!

Hi Emily! The chairs are from Pier 1. I love that store. Glad you like our family room, thank you. It’s feeling more like fall around here every day. Yay!
This space is so fantastic Cindy! I love all the different layers of orange and yellow mixed with the gray. It all looks so good. I could curl up here and have a cup of hot apple cider with you any day of the week. Sending you hugs, CoCo PS: So excited about your drop in temps! That’s practically sweater weather π
Author
LOL CoCo! When the Mister left to go walking at lunch, he said he needed to bundle up and I was sitting in my office with a fan on. Obviously he’s an exaggerator. Wish we lived closer together, we could be great friends with our curled up selves on the sofa and apple cider. π
Cindy your family room is lovely. I love the pillows and all the Fall touches you made in it. It looks so warm, cozy and inviting. Love it! Happy October and Have a great Fall season!
Author
Thank you Terrie. Each time I walk through I sigh in coziness. Happy Fall to you too!
I love your family room, Cindy… and you know I love those yellow touches, too! π I immediately noticed your new/old lanterns on your mantel. Perfect! Hope you link this at TTA today! Hugs, my friend!
Author
Thank you Julie. I had to grab those scones up super fast. The set I had asked about were just yanked from the display wall. I was like, what the cuss people, that’s not how we do things here! Calm down. Now give me those sconces! LOL. If I hadn’t gotten another similar set, I was about to go all WWE on those ladies.
Hi Cindy, I keep going back to look at your rock fireplace. It’s so good looking! Love all your fall touches and those buffalo check chairs. Some of our chairs are so deep that I look like a kid sitting in them. Well you know what I mean. π Happy Fall!
Author
Yes, unfortunately I do know what you mean Michelle. We both probably look like Edith Ann in her giant rocking chair. Please tell me you know who that is?! LOL. As for our rock fireplace, it’s a huge pain in the booty but thank you. I’m glad someone likes it. The mantel is uneven and puny. I can barely fit anything up there. Someday I’ll get a real mantel, go crazy with delight and fill it up. Then y’all will say calm down girl, less is more! π
well, I’m totally in love with those amazing gray checked chairs and ottoman. I know all about being short, believe me!! The gold pillows are a perfect compliment! I love your rock fireplace too, so cozy and warm looking, Happy October and cooler weather!!
Author
I’ve always wanted longer legs but the good Lord said I was perfect at 5’3 and 3/4’s. LOL. I must add the extra height. I think the chairs will be so cute for all seasons. I’m looking forward to Christmas pillows already! π
Cindy, we are on a shuttle bus heading to the rental car area from the Boston terminal. It felt great when we left Dallas this morning and itβs cooler here. Good time to look at your pretty fall living room. Iβm in love with grey buffalo check chairs and ottoman. The signs on the tables are a great way to display them. And, yes, I love my time too
Author
Thank you Carol, and enjoy your time away. I bet you’ll encounter some fabulous fallness. Is that a word? Well it is now. I love the gray checked chairs too. I’m thinking red and white pillows in them for Christmas?! :0
So warm and cozy Cindy. Love everything you have done!!! Canβt wait to see what you do in the farmhouse
Author
Thank you Barbara! Way to put some pressure on me too. We’ll be driving down next week and so looking forward to it!
Cindy, I live in Decatur, Texas! I was also at vintage market days and just love it. I think they will be back in March! We should meet up some dayπI am also one of your subscribers!
Author
Cathy, I’d love to meet up with you sometime! Did you buy some goodies at Vintage Market Days?! I wish I’d had a pot of gold with me – I could have definitely bought waaaaaay more stuff!
I bought a little silver sugar bowl and creamer and I Harareβs ya on the pot of gold! There were some cherubs and lions that I wanted to bring home with meπ
Author
Oh I love silver! I bet they were beautiful. I collect them to hang on my Christmas tree. π. Good thing you got there before me. LOL!
Love all the light from your windows and the beautiful texture in your family room. The rock fireplace, cowhide rug and those fabulous check chairs create such a wonderful and inviting space. So well done.
Author
Thank you Marty. At first I felt like it was busy and a lot to look at but I waited a couple of days and still like it. π Glad you could visit today!
Cute, cute. I love that color combination.
Author
Thank you Katie! It’s my first time ever to use mustard yellow and gray but I really like it! I think the gray pillows will work all winter.
Those buffalo check chairs are so perfect in your room. I love the colors you used and how well your pillows work in there. I know what you mean about another hole in the wall with the artwork…leaning is so much easier! Such a pretty room!

Thanks bunches! I need to lower the screen hanging above them. Hmmm, unless I just add something underneath? π¬
This is such a cozy, welcoming space, Cindy! I’m in love with your buffalo check chairs and the pop of color with the pillows! I love the orange colors you brought in, as well!
Author
Thank you Linda. Iβm glad I added the extra pops of orange. Makes it more fall like for sure. Glad you saw something you liked and for the visit. π
Cozy, cozy, cozy…with a side of pillow envy!!!!
Everything looks beautiful! I love those candle sconces. That store sounds so fun! I know you will find some awesome Christmas treasures there.
My hubby is leaving on a Golf coaching trip for the next 3 days, I am going to clean, clean, clean and organize. It’s just easier sometimes to get things done without distractions. I will be glad when he gets back though.
Thank you so much for embracing fall with us!
Author
Thank you Amber. I am trying to find a permanent place for the sconces but like them sitting on the mantel too. Hope you enjoy your cleaning time. Cleaning is my kind of fun! Well, in winter or in the A/C. Great tour!
Well, Good-NESS! The new furniture changes the entire look of the room, The arrangement made me look twice to confirm to myself that it was, indeed your family room. Great choice on the new furniture. I bet your mom will love sitting on those chairs and holding βda boysβ. Love the new look!ππ
Author
Sorry, no boys around and they aren’t allowed up there anyway. As a matter of fact, there’s no more furniture left in the family room that they are allowed on so… I guess you’ll have to sit on the floor. LOL. Thanks Mommy Dearest. I like the new look too but it’s much better in person.
I love how you decided to decorate your family room for fall, and I really love your buffalo check chairs! I totally get the husband being gone thing; as well as being empty nesters and having to lug tubs of decor up and down without the kids help.
Author
Yay Carol, you feel me! It’s terrible that my little minions left me alone to deal with those attic bins. I’ll have to put coal in their stockings this year for sure. Thanks for the visit.
Cindy, I feel ya…I enjoy some alone time now and then too! I also had a hard time getting into fall with the crazy hot weather. Two things immediately caught my eye in your beautiful room…the buffalo check chairs/ottoman with velvet pillows and those sconces on the mantel. Love them all! I haven’t been to that particular market you mentioned, but I’ve been to Canton and love the unique things you find there. Also, I’ve been that lady with returns in the Home Goods line…never a popular person to the people behind me! π Happy fall!
Author
Yay Crissy – Another sister that gets it AND is a return lady too! It used to really bother me, but now our line is sooooo long at Home Goods (no matter what time of day) that I’m more irritated with that than the people behind me waiting. LOL. i used to go to Canton so much that I’m totally burned out. Now, I love McKinney and Round Top, TX. And of course the Vintage Market Days. It moves around so we get it closer to the farmhouse as well. I’ll be hitting that one too. π
Cindy, everything looks wonderful as always. Your pillow covers are gorgeous. Where do you grab yours?
Love your Buffalo check especially that ottoman. You did have fun playing while your husband was in California.
Wish I didn’t have to pullout the last minute. A head cold from the devil took over my life. Just beginning to feel human.
Cindy

From the Devil – Yikes. That was a doozie. Glad you are feeling a bit better. As for the pillow covers, I was just discussing that with Chloe. A sometimes get covers from Pottery Barn but have now I just get pillows. I try to get them online like Etsy but honestly, I want to touch them and see them in person. I know Hobby Lobby has covers but I’ve never purchased one. What about you? Any ideas where to get good quality pillow covers? Hmmm, I think that should be a future blog post. π
Love your Fall touches. Also love those chairs with the grey buffalo check! They look great with pops of Orange
Author
Thank you Angelina. I think the chairs are going to be so fun, neutral and easy to work with. Happy for your visit!
Cindy, the pillows are all just perfect! Must admit, I am a pillow hoarder as well. Was just thinking the other day I need some change on my family room couch. Your room looks very warm and inviting!
hugs,
Jann
Author
Thank you Jann. Hope you find the perfect pillows for your family room couch – the first time around. Happy Fall decorating friend!
You hit the nail on the head with your fall decor. I love your new sconces on your fireplace. They are going to look great in any season. Your plaid chairs and ottoman are so pretty and they look great with mustard yellow for fall. I always enjoy visiting your home!
Author
Thank you Paula. I struggle with thinking everyone else out there is tired of it. Do you deal with that? Thanks for the encouragement!
Hi Cindy! Your living room looks so warm and comfy! I love the orange and plaid touches that make it feel like Fall. So happy to be touring with you!
Author
Thank you Michelle. That means a lot coming from a friend who’s home I adore! Enjoy the season!
Cindy, your family room is so charming and inviting! Happy Fall! Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Author
Thanks Cecilia!
Cindy, Love your gray and mustard combo; sounds perfect for a Texas Fall. Pier 1 chairs are the best. Every time I’m in there I find a new chair crush and wish I could have new ones every month! And yes, they’re nicely sized for us height-challenged types;) Always fun hopping with ya, girl!
Author
Thanks Lora! I think Iβm moving passed my all neutral phase, which to the hubs is like a birthday gift! He hates all the light colored furniture. He always wants a sheet to sit on. I told him , sorry, thatβs not going away so hereβs your sheet. π
I really enjoyed your Fall family room and your beautiful pillows! I too enjoy my “me” time so I totally get what you were saying! π
Author
Thanks Kelly. I really thought that sounded kind of insensitive. But Iβm glad heβs back home. π
I totally get it! I actually can’t stand being away from my hubby, I’m like a teenager, but when he is gone on work I do get a lot done!! I love how you pulled these colors together and I’m drooling over the golden pillows in the gingham chairs!
Author
Awe Kristin, I think it’s so sweet that you’re like a teenager with your hubs. Love hearing that. And this is the first time I’ve ever used mustard yellow for an accent color but I’m very fond of it. Thanks for the visit and enthusiastic comment! Enjoy your weather – even the snow. :0
Hi Cindy!
Your family room is gorgeous! I love the pops of color that you added for fall, especially the mustard color, definitely my favorite! Your fireplace is amazing and I’m loving the gray gingham chairs!
Author
Thanks Larissa. Each time I walk through the family room I get a cozy feeling. Perfectly fall. π
Cindy,
Yes, third time is charm! Your family room has just the right amount of Fall color. And, I am a member of the short-girls-need-short-chairs club. My legs and feet often dangle so I love having a chair that allows my feet to reach the floor. Don’t you love finding a new store to check for seasonal decor each new season of the year?
Happy Fall,
Judith
Author
Yes Judith I love finding new places to shop! One day Iβll get to your sale! Then I will be in French Country heaven Iβm sure! Thanks for the visit! β€οΈ
You family room is just gorgeous! I adore the mix of patterns and color along with that hide rug! I’m really wanting to add a rug similar to our family room!
Author
I’ll take “just gorgeous” any day of the week! Thanks so much Christy. I was out of town for a few days and when I walked in, I loved how cozy it felt. It was good to be home. I have a cow hide in the family room and one under the breakfast table too and love them both. I put them away during spring and summer but always look forward to bringing them out during the colder (if we ever get there) months. π
I love your family room it is beautiful!! Omg I love it all great jib
Author
Thank you so much Deborah. You put a big ol’ smile on my face today! Hope you have a wonderful week and are looking forward to fall decorating.
