Howdy Friends! Since you’ve seen the new front door paint color and a peek of the urns, I wanted to tell you about the new paint I used. No this isn’t a sponsored post. I went into Lowe’s one day looking for fade resistant paint to start the porchette refresh and this is what I found. And since it’s new, I thought you should hear about it too. So, here is my review of the new Valspar Season Plus paint.
The New Valspar Season Plus Paint
My first thought was to use a spray paint but I figured I’d need at least 4 cans because the 2 urns are about 3-1/2 foot tall and 36 inches in circumference. At approximately $5.00 a can, I thought that was high. That’s when I started looking around for a quart of exterior paint. The Valspar Season Plus is an exterior paint that seemed exactly what I was looking for. The label says fade resistant with a primer included. And the nice gentleman at the paint desk said it would be about $17.00 for a quart. Um hello, that’s a no brainer for me.
The urns have never been painted and we’ve had them more than 10 years. They look like concrete but I believe they are made from a heavy resin. Still in great shape just faded and yucky.
(Urns BEFORE)
I chose a satin finish in Valspars Noir color. It’s a deep charcoal. It coordinates well with the brick on the house. First task was to wipe them down and get all of the gunk out of the creases.
I opened the quart and found the paint to be thick. At first I thought I was going to have to buy another quart to get both urns finished. But it covered both urns with one coat each and the quart looks like I barely used any at all! That was a nice surprise. Seriously, it used less than 1/4 of the can!
(Urns AFTER)
The Season Plus paint went on smooth and the coverage was fantastic. Even though I chose the dark color, I believe if I had wanted a bright color like yellow, it would have covered nicely.
Because this turned out to be such an easy job, I tackled the front door too. After 10 plus years, it was also in need of a new paint color. You can see the terracotta before color here. Lowe’s carries the Sherwin Williams brand color line so I had the paint tinted to SW #6212, Quietude; a nice bright grayish green. The Mister took the door off its hinges and removed the knob but the only prep work for the door was a good wipe down as well. I used 2 coats on the door and it looks fabulous. And because it’s a latex, clean up was a breeze!
I have so much left over paint from both quarts that I’m looking for other projects! Any ideas? If you missed how I made the basket on the front door, you can see that here.
So far this front porch refresh is looking good!
This paint sounds great. Paint away just make sure not to paint the two adorable pups in front of the door.
Urns and front door look great.
Enjoy your day

Some days I wish I could paint those dirty old dogs. :0 But the kids would be devastated.
I love the colour of your front door! And the urns have come out well. It all looks so fresh.
Your dogs are adorable!

Thank you Shirley. One of the dogs didn’t make it in the picture – he’s just too grumpy.
WOW…. Gorgeous !! Love how the planters turned out as well….. I’m also thinking that you have two precious front door visitors !!!! ๐
Author
LOL Terri, I wish they were just visitors. They are old even though they don’t look it. And what comes along with old dogs? Messes. Ugh.
The door looks great and so do those precious boys!!!
Author
Mhmm. You’ve seen them in real life. Are they really that precious?
I love the color of your door and the planter’s new coat sure looks nice and new again. I have to say that me and paint go hand and hand. I am planning on painting our front door this spring. I hope mine looks as well as yours does.

I would highly recommend using this paint Terrie. I am a fan for sure! Look forward to seeing it.
what did you do for a door while the door was off the hinges? We need to paint our front door but not sure how to tackle this!? Was the door off more than a day? Thanks for your help. Love the color that you chose for the door.

Thank you Glenna, I love the color! The paint dries quickly so the door can be put back on in a couple of hours. My daughter hung a sheet over the door to keep the bugs out and the dogs in. I would highly recommend this paint. Easy going on and super easy clean up. What color do you want to paint your door?
Absolutely gorgeous! Love the new color on the front door!

Oh My Golly, Jenny commented!!! I can hardly believe it. Thank you bunches. You know exactly what the door looked like back in our “red” phase. LOL
Your front porchette is just beautiful. My front door needs painting so bad, now you have motivated me!!
Author
Yay Marlene! I love hearing you’ve been motivated. I would come do it if we lived close together. Best wishes. What color do you want to paint your door?
Everything looks lovely, Cindy. I LOVE the door color!

Thank you Julie. Update – There is a bird making a nest in the basket I added to the door the other day! uuuggghhh!
Definitely not a dog or bird lover are you? Poor dogs. Such mean statements about them.
Author
Marcie, thank you for letting me know that the statements sounded harsh. I love all of our animals; the horse, the donkey, all 3 the dogs and even the cows down at the farmhouse. Absolutely no snakes though. Can’t handle that. You can tell my love for them and my personality (grumbling about the pets sometimes) once you read a few older posts. The dogs are spoiled rotten and some days they are a pain in the behind but still loved. Today we found a bird making a nest in the new basket hanging on the front door. I don’t like it but won’t move it because the momma bird has already done so much work to make it a home for her babies. Hope that clears things up. ๐
I’ve read many of Cindy’s posts and none have ever caused me to think she hates or neglects her animals. Quite the opposite, actually. Everyone complains about their dogs every once an a while. Just like kids, fluff balls can get on your nerves.
Wow! That might be my new favorite front door ever! Looks amazing and so do your urns!

Awe. Thanks Melissa. I appreciate that. Iโm still smiling.
Cindy, you chose the most beautiful color! I’m getting ready to paint our door too! Sounds like I found the brand.

Thank you Zamira. This paint worked beautifully. So smooth with great coverage. What color do you plan to use?
I think the urns look amazing! And you know I love the door. It appears more green in the photo. Such a change from the terra cotta. I think it changes the entire personality of the house. Love it!

I think it changes the personality too and the color is more green than blue in real life. I am so excited it finally got painted! ๐
