My recent antique and junk store finds!

hutch with vintage fencing and spindles
Spread the love

Howdy!  I’ve been taking full advantage of businesses being open.  I put on the dreaded mask that irritatingly fog up my glasses, grab my hand sanitizer, a debit card and cell phone.  No purse or unnecessary baggage that I can’t easily sanitize.  It’s been so fun and worth the irritation.  Let me show you a few of my recent antique and junk store finds!

My recent antique and junk store finds!

Vintage doll house wall art with seating area

What is it?!

The first one is a new favorite.  Okay, they’re all favorites.  Can you guess what it is?  It’s one of the walls from a vintage doll house!  Have y’all ever had an old doll house that you couldn’t use anymore or was just falling apart but you hated to get rid of it?  Well take it apart!  The outside wall is white with dark green trim but I loved the inside wall color.  It looks darling hanging in my kitchen.

It’s not junk!

Have you ever come across a small piece of wire fencing?  I see it all the time just thrown on the ground.  Usually it’s rusty and dirty.  Next time you see about a yards length, grab it and roll it up creating a vase!  You can roll it up fairly easy.  Use needle nose pliers and a little extra wire from the ends to keep it rolled up.  Then use it to hold something you treasure.  Like vintage spindles from a chair back.  Aaaaahhhhh!  I love how an old piece of junk can turn into something totally unique and usable!

Cinnamon Sugar Jar

Making things easier and maybe less messy!

As soon as I saw this glass jar I new exactly what I wanted to use it for.  The lid has large holes.  The ladies at the cash register said it was for cheese or powdered sugar but we don’t use that often enough.  However, we make cinnamon toast a lot.  Can you see the mixture of cinnamon and sugar in that adorable vintage looking jar?  It’s perfect.  Add butter to an old jello mold and hand out the bread.  Yum!

Using old brick mold for TV remotes

Many uses!

Since I’m always changing things up around the house and moving things from here to there, I thought we could always use an old brick mold to keep clutter away.  This one is used to hold the TV remotes and a couple of drink coasters.  I was immediately drawn to the warm wood and metal edges.  It could also hold jars with silverware and I’ve seen them used as candles.  You never know, you might see that soon in another post!  I’ve purchased the stuff to start making candles because my fave candle store closed down.  That was disappointing.

wood tray holding magazines

Trendy or a new household staple?

I know things that are half painted are trendy right now and I usually don’t do trendy but I thought of a couple of different things I could do with this tray plus I like the look and how lightweight it is.  It could be used as a cheese tray, serve bread, a magazine holder or I could drill a hole in the handle, add a leather string and hang it like a breadboard.  What do you think?  Can you think of anything else?

Now that you’ve seen my recent antique and junk store finds, does it inspire you to shop a little or make some fun changes to your home?  I’ve been needing a change lately.  Even though I decorated for July 4th, it wasn’t enough.  I am tired of my same old walls.  What have you been doing lately to put a smile on your face?  Share it in the comments.

I usually show my finds in Instagram or Pinterest.  If you aren’t following along over there, click on the names to follow.  🙂

Thanks Laura. I don’t know which was more fun, getting out and shopping or the finds?!

Cindy, is that bench you are using as a coffee table? I have a bench that looks exactly like that. It’s been outside for years.

    • July 15, 2020 / 9:23 am

Yes Mam. It’s supposed to be outside but I found it at a consignment shop about 15 years ago and have used it as our coffee table ever since. And it looks the same as the day I bought it. I can’t say the same for the large ottoman we use as a coffee table upstairs. That’s on the list to recover. All I can say is, kids and shoes.

We traded our ugly front doors for “Navasota” 4 pane window doors and it completely changes the outside, by making it more welcoming, AND the inside, by adding a ton of light. I love your ideas in this post!!!!!

Hi Gayle! I’m going to have to drive by and check out the house in Navasota. The doors sounds nice! I’ve heard people say don’t drive by the house you sold because you’ll be disappointed. We see our old house everyday since it’s only 5 houses up on the corner and we are definitely displeased about how they are ruining the once beautiful yard. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen to you! Thanks bunches. Glad you love some ideas. 🙂

Well I did it again. Threw away an old chair with good spindles. I had looked at it for so long and decided to just throw it away. My loss…..so cute with that wire and spindles. Hmmm…maybe I have some more some place!!

    • July 15, 2020 / 10:58 am

Oh no Sharon! I would be so sad knowing I threw away an old chair like that. There are so many really cute ideas on Pinterest for spindles and even the left over chair bottom. Hope you find another or those spindles that may be hiding some place. Thank you for the visit and comment. I love them!

Cindy, what great things you have placed around your home. I love how you used different items to place things. Love the crate you have for the remotes. Great idea!

Thank you Terrie. I almost didn’t get that old brick mold. Glad the Mister talked me into it!

I don’t know what was more enjoyable the post, or the finds. You are so right; one man’s trash is another man’s treasure/ I like to repurpose things myself and I can truly appreciate those rare finds. Stay safe!

Sometimes I come across things and can hardly believe someone wanted to throw it out! Other times I look around my house and think, I need to throw that out! LOL. I’ll be keeping these treasure for a long while. 😉 Thanks for the visit today!

I have been wanting a brick mold but, couldn’t think what i would do with it, thank you, and i love all of the rest of your treasures you found. I have had these big spindles i bought 3 or 4 yrs ago and finally found someone to fix them for lamps, they are so neat i think.

    • July 15, 2020 / 3:47 pm

I bet your lamps are fabulous! I’ve been wanting to do that with a couple of twisted candlesticks. Need to find the time. Thanks Marlene! I always love hearing from you.

I’ve got an awful magazine rack in my front yard waiting to be taken apart for the spindles. I want to make Lora B’s carrots out of them! I am not Cricut savvy, but I am envious of the people who can cut out words; that tray could be hanging with a great quote! I have a small syrup dispenser than I use for my cinnamon and sugar; sure jazzes up plain muffin tops! As a dollhouse lover, I would have rescued that dollhouse, but that dh wall is a unique piece of art! You sure had some great treasures in this post!

    • July 15, 2020 / 9:20 pm

Yay Kathy! I know you’ll love those carrots Lora B. made. I certainly do! And what a great idea on the muffin tops. I can hardly wait to try that. So glad you visited today – Thanks!

Thanks munches CoCo. Now if others could only give this sort of old girl new life, that would be awesome! Happy Sunday friend.
