Hey there! Did you have a nice weekend? I spent my time trying to clean up the front driveway and porchette. That is until I saw a snake. If you don’t know this about me yet – I. HATE. ALL. SNAKES. This hideous brownish orangish snake was about 12″ long but to me it might as well have been 12′ long. I literally cry every time I see one. I know it’s an irrational fear but I cannot help it. The Mister was at a drone race (his hobby) so thank the Lord our neighbor was home. He came over with a shovel and killed it. Even brought his grandson to watch. As I thanked him from afar, I heard him say you can barbecue that up for dinner. Um, no.
Make a Lovable Wall Pocket More Impressive
Add a Sawtooth Hanger to back of frame
He left the nightmare of a creature in the garbage can with the leaves I had already gathered. Well now I was done with that job. The tools, limbs and leaves were all left right there in the middle of the driveway and I had no plans to walk near it for the rest of the day. I moved on to organizing the garage. I didn’t get far because I found the box my bestie gave me full of empty frames. This totally changed my day. Looking through the pile, I found a frame perfect for a project I’d forgotten about. I wanted to make a lovable wall pocket more impressive.
Add eyehook to hold twine that holds wall pocket
So many times I find something small and cute but if I’m not adding it to a collage, I need to make it look larger. We have a small wall between the coat closet and the stairs in the entry. It’s across from the kitchen so I walk by it several times a day. It’s a great space for my darling little wall pocket. The only issue is that having one little ceramic piece hanging there looks dinky and dinky don’t work for me. So when I found the black frame, a lightbulb went off. Beef it up with a frame. Now it looks fabulous!
Hanging a wall pocket inside a frame
The frame already had two small eye hooks with a wire so I removed all of it and added one eye hook back on the top end to hold the twine that attaches the wall pocket. All I needed now was a sawtooth hanger to hang it on the wall. Just look at it. The small loveable wall pocket looks so much better!
Adding baggie to hold water and fresh flowers to wall pocket
I’m a skeptic.
When the tag mentioned the wall pocket could hold fresh or fake flowers, I didn’t believe it so I’m not pouring water in it trusting it to work. It could leak (okay, it probably won’t) but because I’ve been known to forget about the flowers until I start to smell the yucky water. That is an unmistakable odor and hard to remove. Am I right?! Yes. Along with that surprising confession, I had a better idea. I used a plastic snack bag. They hold the perfect amount of goldfish or gummy bears so why not fresh flowers?!
Now it’s ready for fresh flowers!
I folded the top edge over because it was a tiny bit tall and it worked out just fine. Isn’t it darling? I love it. Now you know how to make a lovable wall pocket more impressive too. I’ve used empty frames for more things than I can count. They seem to make everything look better. If you want to check out a few other ways I’ve used frames, click here and here and even here. 🙂
You may think this fun project distracted me from my miserable morning. But it didn’t. Not entirely. When the Mister came home I had to tell him why everything was in the middle of the driveway and why he was having to put it all away. To top it off, he goes outside to check it out then comes back in asking if I was sure the neighbor killed the snake because he couldn’t find it in the trash can. Oh my soul, that felt like huggin’ a rose bush. It was not a good weekend.
Cindy,
I HATE snakes too. Hate them. I had my seven-year-old neighbor come over to “relocate” one when I found one behind our grill. totally get it.
ANd, love the plastic bag inside the wall pocket. I clicked on your project because I was like, what is a wall pocket? Happy Tuesday! laura

I would have wanted to die! And there’s definitely no “relocating” around here. I’d like to have someone murder all snakes! Glad you know what a wall pocket is now. I bet you’ll start seeing them all over the place. Enjoy your week!
great idea to make the pocket look more substantial on the wall. Plastic bags are great for this idea for flowers. And yes, I hate snakes. We used to have a cat when we lived in the Atlanta suburbs that would sit in an elevated window and howl when he’d see one in the yard. I’d run out and smack it with a shovel. ahhh good ‘ol days!

Goodness gracious, you are one brave woman! I wish I could but never in a million years do I think I could whack a snake. unless they made a hoe with a 100 foot handle. You are amazing!
Just reading about the snake made me scared. I love your little wall pocket, it’s a pretty color and looks great with flowers. When I was in Ireland and they said they didn’t have snakes, I wanted to move there, lol!!
Author
Let’s go Marlene! I’m all for it! I’ve mentioned several times that I want to move some place where there are no snakes. Wouldn’t that be heaven?! Debra (from Common Ground) says she had a cat that would let her know when there was a snake in the yard. I’m allergic but would sleep with a hundred cats if that meant I’d never have to see another snake in my life time.
Such a cute idea Cindy.

Thanks so much Rachel. 🙂
Oh man…100% agreement on the topic of, ahem, snakes. I don’t even like seeing pictures let alone videos of them! And
Austrailia has been removed from my bucket list due to excessive amounts of the danger noodles!
Author
I jump (and wish they’d stop doing it) if a photo or commercial etc. has a snake in it. Don’t they know a lot of people are scared?! Why can’t they promote puppies, kitties, baby monkeys – anything else instead?! And I’m with you on Australia. As much as I’d love to go, it’s off my list as well. 🙁
This is so cute and super creative too, Cindy! I love it! So glad your neighbor was home because that sounds super unsettling. I feel the same way about bugs that start with r – I just can’t. Sending you hugs, CoCo

Oh heavens. I know what you’re talking about but haven’t seen one of those in years. They are nasty too. Same kind of nasty as mice running through a house. Thanks for popping in today!
I thought snakes went dormant in the winter😱. I love the “frame it” idea for something else. Can’t wait to try it.
Author
Yay Cecelia. Frames are easy, cheap (especially from the Thrift Stores) and fun ways to display things around the house. Enjoy! As for the horrible experience, I thought they went dormant too. But it was under the leaves piled up at the curb. Cannot imagine it hanging out there for the winter. Either way @#$%^&*!
Okay… I’ll tell you what I told a sweet friend of mine when she kept finding copper head snakes at her house “TIME TO MOVE!’ I hate those dang things!!!!! On a much happier note I love that sweet wall pocket and the frame absolutely makes it! Here’s hoping the dang snake has flashbacks of violence in your yard and heads for greener pastures!
Author
LOL! Seems like the best advice! Any idea where we can move where there are no snakes?! I like the happier notes. Thank you Tammy!
Snake-hater here as well!!! I still can’t believe we owned our Nav house for 10 months and never saw one, lol. Alllll we did when we had that house was WORK on it, so I get how much effort you put into your adorable house!!! Thanks for all your great ideas. ❤️
Author
I haven’t seen any in Navasota either and that’s just fine with me! I told the Mister if we started seeing them there I’d probably never go again so he’s doing his best to keep them away. Not sure how but whatever it is, it’s working! Thank you Gayle for the visit today. Hope you have a great week.
Adorable idea! I am with you on snakes, but I am even more fearful of mice. Yikes. Thanks, Cindy.
Author
I hate mice as well. Not scared really but because of their grossness. I know every fear we have isn’t anything explainable or understandable really so I feel for you Miche! It doesn’t matter what it is – a fear is a fear and very real. Hope you never ever ever have to see one again for the rest of your life.
Snakes?? Not a fan either!! It’s that whole surprise element that I can’t stand!! Love your frame around the wall pocket idea!! It really does make is look more substantial!! Thanks for sharing! Pinning!
Author
Thank you Cindy for pinning. Always appreciated! Happy Hump Day
Framing the wall pocket was a great idea!I am not a fan of snakes either. Yeah, I know that they keep the small rodent population down. Show me a rattlesnake in a cage, I’m fine. Let a grass snake slither ahead of me in the grass and I shriek! When I lived in NH (now I’m in Maine), I had built a stone retaining wall from the cellar door down to my clothesline. The harmless snakes loved sunning themselves on the warm stones. One day I came around the corner to see my 3 year old daughter banging the rake on the stones, saying, “Go away snakes, go away.” Had MY voice inflection and actions down PERFECTLY! About 5 years ago,my son complained about having a snake in his computer. Being a non-techy, I figured it was like a worm or a Trojan horse, a virus. NOPE! He lived in an apartment built on a concrete slab. A snake had crawled in, found the warmth of the computer and fried himself–and the computer motherboard, too! It made for a GREAT story!
Author
Oh my soul Kathy, I would have literally DIED knowing a snake had crawled INSIDE and gotten in my computer! DIED! Glad he met his demise though. I just keep thinking the snake could have found warmth in the bed with your son. I’m shivering just thinking about it. And I cannot imagine seeing snakes over and over around my house. I would have to move. Not kidding. I don’t know how people do it.
Sorry about your close encounter…me I’m more afraid of spiders LOL! Cute wall pocket and I like the bag idea!
Author
Addison (our youngest) is afraid of spiders too. And even though I’m not, I understand her paralyzing fear. Anyway, thanks for the visit! I greatly appreciate it. 🙂
I love the wall pocket… where did you get it? Also, I hate snakes too… so scary!
Author
I knew someone was going to ask me where I got that wall pocket. I honestly cannot remember. I know it had to have been in a little shop somewhere on one of our weekend wandering trips. As soon as it comes to me, I’ll let you know. So sorry! Don’t you have some you got from Magnolia? I seem to remember that. But I have slept since then.
