Good morning! Today I’m joining some wonderful friends in their series called Thrifting with the Gals. It’s exciting, especially if you love a good treasure hunt. Some of the commonalities between us ladies are that we enjoy thrifting and finding old, rusty, chippy goodness for our homes. We often look for the same things but our decorating styles are different. If you want a home that shows personality then look for these lovely vintage finds while thrifting this summer. You can’t go wrong picking up any of the pieces I’m going to share. Seriously, don’t pass these up!
If you’ve hopped over from The Ponds Farmhouse, thank you and welcome. Are you new here? If so, click here on the About Me page so we can become better acquainted. Then start commenting and tell me more about you.
Look for these lovely vintage finds while thrifting this summer!
When people ask me to describe my decorating style I use words like cozy, updated country, cottagey, well-loved. I say it’s mismatched yet cohesive and I love it!
Do you look at photos on blogs, Instagram or Pinterest and want to know how you can get the same look but not look like everyone else out there? The secret is – use old stuff and not the mass produced stuff.
Vintage Quilts
Let’s start with quilts. Quilts are useful and not just for keeping your toes warm in the winter. They look fantastic stacked in a chair or on a shelf in a hutch but I also use them for tablecloths. Sitting at a table with an old quilt brings back fond memories and gives a felling of comfort – literally. It’s way more comfy putting your elbows on a quilt than on a rickety picnic table. 😉
This may be a little harder but worth digging around for. A vintage crib. Honestly I don’t see how a baby really worked well in these but they survived. Babies must have been much smaller than mine. Our last one came out 10 pounds, 1 ounce. If I laid her in there I think the whole thing might fall to the floor! Nowadays I think mother’s all over the world would be up in arms if they saw an actual baby inside. Am I right?
Vintage Baby Crib
If you can find one with wheels, it’s even better. I’ve wheeled this thing around all over the place. It’s been at the end of our bed as a throw pillow holder and has held lots of quilts in different rooms. But my favorite thing is to use it as a serving cart. So stinkin’ cute!
You can usually find vintage birdcages at almost any antique store. I see them all over the place. When I found this one it came with a stand. For years it was a porch decoration because it didn’t have a bottom. Every once in a while I’d use it as a cloche. You know already that a cloche makes everything more special.
Vintage Bird Cage
One year I decided to turn it into a food tent/screen. You can see that DIY by clicking here. It has turned out to be one of my favorite DIY’s. Super handy and who doesn’t love a vintage birdcage food tent?! 😉
This next item can be called an obsession. Not my fault. I think it’s one of those things that we all get afflicted with sometime in our lives. Mine just happens to have never been cured.
Vintage Dishes
You can also find these everywhere and in all kinds of patterns and colors. I never pay over $7.00 for any of them because it might cost $12.00 in this booth but the next one will have it much cheaper. Imagine waking up each morning and pulling out one of these plates for your toast. I smile and maybe give them a little squeeze too.
Not everything has to be new or in great shape. I love the broken and worn pieces too. Like this broken chair. It was together when I found it but no one should be sitting on it. Not even a small child. I use it as a side table for coffee and magazines. Everyone that sees it loves it.
Vintage Chairs
There’s no need to get rid of the other pieces. They can be used as home decor. Can you see the chair back spindles in the photo below? I plopped them in some old fencing I rolled up to use as a vase. Well, a spindle holder really. The chair back is on the wall. So you can see, you shouldn’t pitch that old chair until you have used it up!
Can you see how you should look for these lovely vintage finds while thrifting this summer? I mean it when I say they truly help making your home the same but different. Same cozy feeling you see in all those vintage loving, farmhouse, country vibe homes but unique because you do something different with them. Paint them, use them in fun new ways and use them up. You can’t make a mistake!
Next is Ann from Dabbling and Decorating. She also has two houses to decorate. One in Maine and the other in Vermont so she finds the best stuff! You will love love love it!
Cindy,
It’s so fun to have you join us again. I loved all your vintage finds, and those quilts are amazing. I love using them as tablecloths, also. Thank you for joining us.

The only thing that keeps me from buying more dishes is storage! I’m in the process of having to get rid of some just so I can find a place for the new (to me) dishes. LOL! Glad you liked the post and stopped by Rachel. Thank you.
I’m so looking forward to thrifting this summer. You have so many great finds. Hugs to you.

Thanks bunches Pamela. 🙂
We have a little folding (campaign?) desk just like the one you have in the pics with the spindles and the birdcage.
So unusual!

I adore that little desk and will never give it up. I never see them anywhere anymore. People must realize what a treasure it is! Thanks for the visit Karen. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
It was my husband’s childhood desk. My father in law is an antiques dealer so who knows where they found it. We live near Mexia so not very far from your farm.

I think I remember you mentioning that before because I have this same feeling of jealousy. LOL! I bet he has the best stuff!
