Lazy Hazy Days of Summer Farmhouse Porch

Headboard repurposed as a Welcome sign
Spread the love

If this is your first time here at County Road 407, HOWDY and WELCOME!  I’m glad you are here.  I’ve joined together with other amazing bloggers to bring you some great summer inspiration!  There’s something different each day of the week!  You’ll see the links at the end of the post so you can visit each blogger on their perspective day.  I’m in the front porch section so here’s my lazy hazy days of summer farmhouse porch!

Since some of you have seen the front porch at the farmhouse many times, I changed things up but kept a relaxed feel to help with the unbearable heat here in Texas.  We are close to Houston so if I called it the Armpit of Texas, would you know what I meant?  🙂  LOL.  It’s hot, sticky and humid with bugs the size of your fingers!  Makes you want to visit huh?

LAZY HAZY DAYS OF SUMMER FARMHOUSE PORCH

Farmhouse front porch with Dollar store curtains! By countyroad407.com

This particular weekend we had a dust storm which is why I called it the “hazy” days of summer.  Can you see the dust out in the pasture?  It came all the way from North Africa!  It’s hard to believe and crazy to me that it could travel that far and still be so evident.  I could feel the grit.

For those that don’t know, I love to use things I find in different ways.  Well these curtains are plastic rectangular table cloths from the dollar store.  Say whaaat?  I know, right!  We already had a rope running the length of the porch from last year so I just slipped them over and just stapled them up there.  I adore the look and the total cost was only $6.00.  If they get dirty, I can hose them off or if they get ruined, they are easily replaced!

Some days even though it’s hot, we still sit out here in the early mornings and have breakfast and coffee.  I find it so peaceful.  The light fixture was a left over piece of art work so I strung C-9 bulbs on it and the Mister mounted it where the broken ceiling fan used to be.  It’s so pretty at night.

Here the ground is pure sand with grass growing in most places but the grass doesn’t keep the sand from getting everywhere.  At the end of the day you feel grimy and gross.  So in order to feel less like filthy animals and a bit more civilized, when we eat we use vintage dishes that have been in the family for decades and real sterling silverware.  Yay for a few niceties out in the country!

Just off the porch are several old chandeliers I hung in the trees to give the place a little more character too.  All of them white and all different.

Cindy, I love the idea of white plastic tablecloths for outdoor curtains! Every time I think about getting something for our cottage gazebo, I think of how dirty they’ll get, along with spiders and bugs! EEK! Clever idea, my friend!

    • July 10, 2018 / 9:24 am

Yay. So glad you liked it! I’m he same way. I think dirty curtains would be nasty dirty after a while and be a pain to clean. Have a great week!

Cindy, your porch is so beautiful and inspiring! I live just south of Houston, and understand the humidity, bugs and general nastiness of summer! You have managed to make me forget about that! I love your chandy’s hanging from the old oaks, those clever curtains, and all the beauty!

    • July 10, 2018 / 12:58 pm

Oh wow, you do know how it feels! Thank you for saying that. I love that you like it and that it makes you forget about the heat. 😀. Thanks for visiting today. Hope you enjoy your summer.

Oh my word, Cindy, I could curl up and read a good book on this porch all summer long! Every detail is so gorgeous. I’m excited about the way you’re going to manage the bugs – that is so creative! I’m in Florida so I can definitely appreciate how both the bugs and the heat can be a bit intrusive to any outdoor experience. Cheers to making it through the adventures of July and August, hugs, CoCo

I loved everything about your front porch; I only have 3 steps with a railing on one side. Several pots of wilting flowers is about it! Here in Maine it was 89. It’s lovely to go on errands just to ride in the a/c! Moved as little as possible this afternoon; finished a good murder mystery!

    • July 10, 2018 / 8:01 pm

Girl! 89?! Hahahaha. It would be fantastic to feel that cool here! But I totally get that it feels hot if you aren’t use to it. 😉. And reading a great book sounds like the perfect day!

  12. July 11, 2018 / 4:10 am
