Quick question – What do Edith Ann and I have in common? Oh wait, do you even know who Edith Ann is? If not, good for you. You are young and your parents didn’t subject you to watching whatever they wanted to watch on TV. Yes mother, I’m talking about you.
The answer – We both need accent or throw pillows behind our backs when we sit down or our legs stick straight out! For me, pillows are a necessity. If I don’t have one, then when I sit down, I am uncomfortable because I am short. Much like a booth at a restaurant. I hate those things. If I have to sit in one, I’m basically kicking the person in the knees across from me all night long. That’s always fun.
Why am I telling you this? Because I was playing around with the throw pillows and got to thinking you might want to know how to style your sofa pillows too. Yes, that’s how my mind works. Vacuum sofa, arrange throw pillows, I’m short, I look like Edith Ann, my pillow peeps might want to know how to style their pillows, is it called sofa or couch, where are all of my pillows. Understand? Yay! Now on to the good stuff.
How to style your sofa pillows!
This is actually a love seat and not a sofa because our little country house won’t fit a full size sofa. But you can still use the same looks for either. Here it is with no pillows at all, boring. Oh yeah, if you’d like to see what the room looked like before I got my hands on it, click here.
Look #1: The no fuss, plain and simple. Face 2 pillows forward in the middle of the back cushions.
Look #2: Angle 2 pillows in the corners. Unassuming and easy to deal with.
Look #3: Adding 2 more but pushing the center pillows toward the middle of the sofa. The two pillows in the back are slightly larger in size.
Look #4: Same four pillows but moving the smaller pillows in front of the larger pillows in the corners.
Look #5: Now using three pillows. One in each corner and one centered on the sofa. Don’t forget the karate chop! π
Stay with me! There’s four more choices!
Look # 6: Using five pillows total. Two angled in each corner and one in the center.
Look #7: This way is one of my favorites but not practical unless you never sit on the sofa. Place one in each corner, two a bit closer to the center just in front of the larger pillows and one lumbar or smaller pillow centered in front. This would be the Misters worst nightmare but could work if you have a teeny tiny bottom and don’t need much space. π
Look #8: Using the amount of pillows to stretch the length of the sofa all angled the same way.
Look #9: This one’s kinda cheating. Add a throw blanket or quilt behind one corner and use only two pillows. Cute and cozy!
Sorry for the lengthy post with a ton of pictures but I wanted you to know how to style your sofa pillows! What about y’all? Do you have another I didn’t think of or do you have a favorite? I’d love to hear from you!
Great post! They all look so pretty! I also love the look of lots of pillows in different patterns but I never do that because then nobody can sit. π

I love that look too but have to do that at home in Highland Village where I have a normal sized sofa. I think the Mister has sat on our sofa at home maybe 3 times. He thinks he’ll get it dirty. I keep telling him it’s washable. Oh well, more room for me!
I didn’t realize I was short until I a few years ago! lol! At least in my family I’m the short one at 5’3 and 1/2. I love #7 but like you said – not practical. I think I’m more of a #4 girl. They were all super pretty. Now you have me rethinking my sofa pillow combo as yours are so pretty.

Yay Tammy, I’m 5’3 and 1/2 (with shoes). π But I tell everyone I’m 5’4. They get a weird look on their face. I think it must be they have gas. LOL
I totally know who Edith Ann is LOL. While I would love to have Look 7, Storybook Cottage is brought to you by Look 9 because as you eloquently stated the men rebel. If you haven’t seen it there is a hilarious pillow scene in Along Came Polly.

Me too! I love #7 and try and sneak it in every once in a while. π But for day to day, we are the 2 pillow boring look. π Thanks for reading!
I like #7 but only for looks cause when people come they always want to move 1 or 2 of them. Now if it’s my grand children who come i try to hide them cause they are 19 and 16 and are a good size and they shove them into the corners of my sofa until theyr’e 6×6 inch pillows but i love them. My granddaughter does her cheers for us she’s 9. Thank you so much for these wonderful ideas,i will use them for company.

You’re welcome Marlene. My daughter did cheer or years too. My goodness, even in her time off she was out in the yard doing cheer. π So cute. My kids just throw the pillows on the floor too. Ugh. Guess I should be grateful they got their fathers height and don’t need them. Enjoy your family!
It all came together for me when you added the blue throw at the end. That is my kinda sofa, one to snuggle in.

So glad Mary! I love the quilts or blankets on a sofa. Even when itβs 100 degrees outside.
Forced to watch Laugh In? Youβre right! And Iβd do it all over again. Gotta go-Iβm going to call my favorite oldest daughter. One ringy-dingy, two ringy-dingies… is this the person to whom I am speaking???

Hah. As if that were the only thing I was forced to watch. π©
Cute pillow styling. I’m short too so I totally get it. I love that linen like pillow from IKEA. We have the same one. Thanks for linking to Keep In Touch.
