And a big thank you to Ms. Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for hosting and getting us together.
How to Decorate For a Woodsy Peaceful Christmas Bedroom
I had high hopes for this post. I had planned the accessories, decided what Christmas tree I wanted to use, cleared the clutter, dusted and even hung fresh garland on the bed. That was a few weeks ago. When it was time to take the photos, you’ll see the garland looks sad and kinda spooky. Perfect for Halloween (insert rolling eyes).
That turned me into the Christmas Curmudgeon. To top it off, we’ve had clouds and/or rain for days. Not the best when you want your holiday bedroom to look inviting, warm and dare I mention – romantic. All I can say is on most days it looks magical. Well except for the crunchy greenery hanging over the bed.
I will never add the good stuff again (a.k.a. live greenery) as it’s not that pleasant when you’re asleep and feel something on the edge of your forehead/hairline. Imagine thinking it’s a spider and you’re trying to kick your way out of the covers but can’t jump up fast enough. All the while continually slapping your head to remove said spider. What in the world would have happened if I had been sleeping with my mouth open and choked on a piece of cedar?! Nope, no more fresh greenery for us.
All that said, here’s how to decorate for a woodsy peaceful Christmas bedroom.
Start with a tree. Try and fit one in anywhere possible. Even if you have to move something out. It doesn’t have to be full size. Try a 3 foot on the dresser. Trees set the tone for a lovely holiday bedroom.
Switch one or two photos or signs for something that represents the season.
Next clear anything that has accumulated on the bedside tables. Bottles of water, receipts, TV remotes, etc. I have friends with side tables that are just a top with 4 legs. I would highly recommend something with drawers or doors so keeping things clutter free is easy. Having a clean slate makes it simple when decorating for Christmas.
I have a collection of Santa’s so that’s a given when decorating but to keep it woodsy, keep your colors neutral and add plenty of small trees. The more the merrier! And it’s okay to mix flocked with non-flocked to keep it cozy. Don’t forget candles. There’s something so dreamy about the glow of the lights on a tree and candles flickering around the room.
If you have art work or family photos hung on the walls, now’s a good time to change things up. Remove them and add a Christmas sign or photo somewhere. And don’t feel like you need to add as many as you took down. If you have a collage on the wall, simply switch out a few of the items to something more seasonal.
After you’ve added your accessories to the side tables and any other surface you like, add the comfy elements. Like an extra quilt at the end of the bed or a fluffy throw blanket and pillow to a chair.
Don’t forget the comfy elements.
Finally, step back and see where you could add more small trees or possibly pockets of greenery. And no, I wouldn’t suggest the real stuff. I realize a lot of people use it and love it. But I’m here to tell you, it gets crunchy fast when you run the heater. And unfortunately, I have the real stuff everywhere which will be switched out soon. Just trying to save you some time and effort friends. π

I love your woodsy bedroom! That garland over the bed looks enchanting and magical…no it doesn’t look creepy to me, ha! I hear you about the real stuff though, I only use touches of it here and there, since I decorate as soon as halloween comes down. You have so many beautiful touches in here and your ideas are so useful! Merry Christmas! xo

I’m going to adopt your “only use touches here and there” motto starting next year. If I could continue getting the real stuff over and over, I would. I really do love it but it’s faux for me from here on out. Thank you Tamara.
Oh how sad, your greenery really did dry up fast. Such a great idea and I am sure it was amazing when you first put it on the bed. At any rate, the room still looks beautiful and I love the tree and all of your other beautiful Christmas vignettes. Now just switch out that greenery with some faux and enjoy your stunning room. Thanks so much for joining the tour again this season. Your home is always filled with tons of inspiration and tips and ideas to decorate every inch of our homes.

Thank you Marty, that made my day to hear. I hope to switch it out this weekend so we can enjoy the rest of the month with it. Loved touring with each of you. Merry Christmas!
Oh, Cindy, you made me laugh so much with the spider story, I can just imagine that – eek! I know what you mean with the greens though, I use fresh greens a lot but only on things that I can easily switch out. I used to use fresh greens to make garlands but it’s as you said, they get crunchy very fast so unless you make them a few days before the big day they look very sad indeed. Love your sparkly tree and your Santa too, he’s a keeper!

Right?! I made my mom and sister a fresh wreath a couple of years ago and told them to spritz the heck out of it everyday and still, I don’t think it helped all that much. I do love my Santa’s. I feel like I’m 3 again playing with dolls each year when I hold them just so and style the beards and hair before displaying them all over the place. π Merry Christmas Jayne.
Cindy, we tried placing faux garland on our headboard one year. In the middle of the night it fell down on us and scared us to death! But every year we do have a small tree in our bedroom. This year it’s white pink and blue. Love the twinke and glow. Your Santas look very sweet on the nightstands.

Oh boy, I can see it now jolting you from a nice sleep. I’m team never-again now with the real stuff. Love the idea of a real tree in your bedroom though. I think people are really missing out when they only put them in living rooms etc. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Carol, thank you.
Oh Cindy…you keep it real, girl!! I’ve never used real because, just like you, we have to run the furnace because it’s so cold here now and it would never last past a few days! Your Santa’s are adorable and that tree is beautiful!
Author
I’m not sure keeping it real is a good thing but I do like telling it like it is and there’s certainly no fluff in my life although I could totally use some. And if only my stories weren’t real! I swear sometimes I think there’s a candid camera around just to record the daily.
Merry Christmas Rachel!
It does look dreamy and cozy. I do put fake garland across my headboard and a few small trees and an angel in my bedroom. I didn’t put up but, one big tree, angles, and my nativity. This year I am not cooking one of my daughter-in-law’s is, so I am having a very Merry Christmas and pray you are too.
Author
Niiiiiice! I’m looking forward to one day being invited over to someone else’s home for the holidays. That sounds fabulous. As does only putting up one tree, angles and a nativity scene. So glad you’re having a very Merry Christmas Marlene and thank you!
Oh, how you make me laugh sometimes! Your bed looks interesting and a bit romantic in a Southern Louisiana kind of way! Your whole room is beautiful! Every year I buy a live greenery wreath from a young lady as a fundraiser for her church. I spritz the heck out of it, but it still is very dry by Christmas day. It helps her work to support programs at her church, and it is beautiful at the beginning of the season. All other Christmas greenery in my home is fake. Out here on the cusp of West Texas it doesn’t take long for anything live to dry out!

π I would do the same thing if my purchase of real garland helped someone in need but since it came from Costco, I don’t think my money will be missed. And I just don’t think my heart could take another jolt like that night. But I do love it. Maybe I can find some that seems realistic and spray it with pine scented room spray?! LOL. The hubs would think I’d lost it.
What a beautiful and peaceful bedroom…and much more peaceful without live greenery! You made me laugh but I totally understand! Thanks for the inspiring tour!

Thank you Shelley. Now that there are some gifts piling up in our room it’s not so peaceful. :/ But eventually, I’ll get tired of it and make everyone else take them to their own rooms. Guess I should be grateful that the catch-all dining room table doesn’t have the usual stack of packages on it though. Thanks for the sweet comment. Merry Christmas!
So many great decor ideas! Happy holidays! Pinned.

Thanks so much Anne. Glad you found some fun ideas. Merry Christmas!
This is so pretty. I love all of the details. Happy holidays, my friend. Hugs and blessings to you.
Author
Thank you Renae. It’s so fun to walk into and spend time reading in that comfy chair. Happy Holidays
Christmas bedroom decorations are so fun! The Mister is such a kid at heart we would probably have to leave the tree on all night LOL! Love the garland and pretty touches around the room! Pinning!
Author
I love hearing that! I would enjoy leaving the lights on all night but I wouldn’t be able to sleep! Need all the darkness (and my little fan) that I can get. Thanks for the pin and visit.
This is a positively magical space, Cindy! I love how you put the garland around your bed and added the big tree with all the twinkling lights. You are super brave to use live greenery. The minute I thought something was crawling on me I would have torn the entire bed apart though π€£ Honestly though just being able to spend a few extra moments snuggled up looking at the lights before you start the day sounds like the best way to ease into the season. I love it all! Hugs, CoCo

Oh I get it! The garland is coming down this weekend and will be replaced with the new good (a.k.a.faux) stuff. Just when you think your decorating is finished, you have to do something else. Hoping to relax and enjoy the rest of the season come Sunday. Hope yours is magical. Thank you CoCo.
I am CRYING with laughter over your greenery. But it looks SO GOOD! This post fills my heart with delight! It is such a joy to be on tour with you.
Author
I almost cried during that moment too but not from laughter! Glad you liked the post. Thanks bunches Laura.
So sorry you’ve got crunchy greenery! I’ve never used real greenery inside the house. Here in MN it doesn’t work at all. Faux is the way to go. It does look beautiful on your bed, though:) Such a cozy, romantic room!
Author
It’s terrible! But alas, I will fix it with fabulous faux stuff! Thanks Lora.
The woodsy theme is just beautiful! Love your Santas! I have started collecting them.
Author
Thank you Alexandra. I haven’t found one yet this year that I thought worthy of the money. They have gotten so expensive! But hasn’t everything? Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
I just love how you’ve transformed your bedroom into a peaceful, woodsy Christmas space, Cindy. From your stunning Christmas tree to the greenery wrapped around the bed, everything looks so beautiful for the holiday season. Happy holidays my friend.

It’s been a hard day of hearing so many needs and illnesses lately that I’ve been a little down today so reading this made my day so much better. Thank you Kim! I truly appreciate your kind words. Merry Christmas!
Love the idea of decorating the guest room for Christmas. That’s not something I’ve ever done. It looks cozy and inviting. Merry Christmas!
Author
If we ever have guests at Christmas, we always decorate it! Thank you Lori. Merry Christmas!
Yep, the hubs canβt do real pine or fir trees or garland so faux it is in our home. Your bedroom is lovely btw.
Author
Well thank you very much Kim. Hope you’re having a great new year so far. π
The real greenery can be tricky to decorate with!! Last year I used some and I just found that it aged much too quickly and shed everywhere, I had to call in a carpet cleaner to help with the mess. This season I’m definitely going for some faux garlands and wreaths. Thanks for sharing your home!
Author
You are so right Amelia. It can dry out quickly. I spritz mine quite often to keep it from crumbling to the floor. I learned a few years ago to keep the real stuff in easy to reach and in easy to clean places! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Your Christmas bedroom looks so cozy and sparkly! Thanks for sharing at Tuesday Turn About. I’ll be sharing your post this week! Pinned!

Aww, thank you Julie! Much appreciated.
