How to Create an Inviting Fall Door Decoration Everyone Will Remember
If you’ve hopped over from Julie’s blog, My Wee Abode, thank you. I’m so glad you’re here! If you’ve not been here before, visit the About Me page so we can be friends. And just in case you’re new to a Pinterest Challenge – each month a group of friends and I take one photo from Pinterest and make it work in our homes and in our own style. We do it so everyone can see that they can be a decorator and make their home unique and beautiful too.
Our inspiration photo comes from Janelle Trinette and what I see in the photo and what I want to use is the natural woven basket, two different colors of pumpkins, a cloth of some sort and tall stems in the background.
Mine looks quite different doesn’t it? But if you look closely, you’ll see I have used the same elements as Janelle. I have a natural woven basket that can sit on the floor or hang and I chose to use it to greet my friends and family instead.
This autumn basket was so easy to make. All I did was stuff lots of crumpled up paper inside to fill out the bottom of the basket and to make my stems stand up higher inside the basket. I didn’t use hot glue, tape or anything else to stabilize anything. It’s all just placed in their nicely.
After I added the paper in the bottom of the basket, the stems were next. Just bend and scrunch and spread them out until you’re satisfied. Next, I simply folded the Blessed Assurance hymn tea towel from Little Things Studio over the edge. Isn’t it darling? My bestie went to a wedding and picked it up in Waco, TX. They are so charming and there are several to choose from on the website. And I obviously love mine so they make great gifts!
As I sang the chorus to Blessed Assurance for the next 5 hours, it put me in the best mood. Each time I walked back in the front door and saw the overwhelming mess of fall bins and broken wheat all of the floor I just kept singing. Isn’t it marvelous that a song can change your mood? It put a spring in my step and my heart in the right place.
Last was squishing the pumpkins inside and that’s it. Now you know how to create an inviting fall door decoration everyone will remember! I could have (should have) hung it a little higher because I don’t want anyone using the tea towel to wipe the drool from their nasty little chins after seeing this fabulous autumn door decor. Ha. But seriously, I’ll have to tell the boys that live here that it’s NOT for their convenience and for pretties only!
I wanted to share this one last photo of another idea for spectacular fall front door decor. If the tea towel doesn’t float your boat, clip a handmade water color autumn leaf to the basket instead. Guess who made this beautiful watercolor leaf? It was Michelle from Thistle Key Lane!!! She is so talented and so sweet. You’ll want to pop over and check out her work on Society 6. Another great gift idea! I also have the “crock of mums” she made which I’ll share soon.
Now it’s time to see how the rest of my friends put their own spin on the inspo photo. Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse is up next. You’ll love her fun fall ideas.
hi cINDY. I loved this the minute I saw the tea towel on the wreath. Pinned and Pinned

Anytime I think of basket decor I go for the door decor first. I love having something there year round. Maybe because I do little else for the porch unless I have too. So many webs and bugs. :/ Thank you so much for the sweet comment Rachel.

They are so fun to do and I love how everyone’s is so different. Thank you Heidi!
So now I’m going to be singing Blessed Assurance for the next few days, ha! It was one of my favorites when I was little. The music director at church knew if he asked me what I wanted us to sing it would be Blessed Assurance or Victory in Jesus! We now sing more contemporary music, but I so enjoy so good ole “throwback” hymns! I love that you used it on your door. What a great witness that is to others, not to mention that your fall door looks beautiful! The stems look great, and I’ll be on the lookout for some. I hope you’ll come over & share on Crafty Creators Link Party if you get a chance. And if you’re ever looking for someone to add to the Pinterest Challenge, I’d love to!

Aww, I love hearing that Niki! I also love Victory in Jesus. Each time we’d sing that in church and get to the chorus, our pastor was up on his toes. He turned into the choir director and he’d have us all hold that last note for ages. Ha! Such good memories. Our church does a good mix of contemporary music with old hymns too. I enjoy it but it’s different – we don’t have an organ at this church. I’ll hop over to your link party and thank you for inviting me. As for the Pinterest Challenges, there’s a waiting list. If you want to get on the list, send me an email. Thanks for the sweet comment. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Your door basket is amazing. I love that you used an inspirational saying in your design. Stunning.
Author
Thanks so much Marty. Seeing the description stunning, makes my heart smile.
“This is my story, this is my song”, now you have me singing too! Grew up singing the old hymns and I just love this pretty tea towel! I do have to remind my guys, including Mr DIY, NOT to wipe the nasty stuff with my pretty towels!! What is wrong with them anyway?? I love that you hung the basket on your front door Cindy, what a charming and delightful welcome – I may just pop in and we can sing together lol! Oh wait, I don’t live in TX anymore ๐ Pinned and shared!!
Author
Aww, that would be so wonderful to sing old hymns together! Although you need to wear some ear plugs when I’m around. I think only the Lord loves my singing. ๐ Thanks so much for the sweet comment. Big hugs
I love this series so much, Cindy. I learn a ton and it’s always fun to see what you guys are up to. This basket is the perfect way to transition to the fall season and I love that towel too. I can still hear my grandparents singing that hymn – it’s one of my all time favorites! Big hugs, CoCo
Author
