Spread the love

Howdy folks!  Are you eager to see some outdoor creativity?  I’ve joined our host Laura from Decor to Adore for a porch hop and the posts below are so beautiful.  I’m sharing how to create an autumn porchette with lively fall color.  The best part is that it cost less than a meal out with my kids!

How To Create An Autumn Porchette With Lively Fall Color

If you’ve arrived here from The Crowned Goat, welcome!  CoCo is one of my blogging besties whose style, love of pink and always the encourager have me in awe.  I’m sure you loved her porch ideas with those beautiful mums.  The cozy factor is at a 10!

door mat and pumpkin

It’s been so stinkin’ hot here I almost didn’t fool with the outside.  Then I saw our neighbors porch and felt like I should at least contribute somehow.  So I waited until it was 95 degrees and the mosquitos were thick before going outside.  Definitely not the best decision.  Next week, we’ll power wash the ground so look beyond that ugly part.

front door with pumpkins in pots, stems and cornstalksAdd color in every nook and cranny so the eye moves around the porch.

When I started, I had nothing in the creative box I store in my head.  Plumb empty.  There’s another box in there too.  It’s the what-do-the-kids-want-for-Christmas box.  Which translates to – I didn’t want to spend money on more fall decorations when Christmas shopping isn’t far away.  I know, it’s hard to think about that when it’s still feels like summer.

Branch with faux fall leaves, green wreath around lamp

Have you seen people making faux fall trees?  I’ve seen a few and it doesn’t look that hard.  Then I watched a couple of DIY videos and thought it was more work than I was up for.  Both tutorials drilled holes into the wood branches and hot glued the leafy stems inside.  That didn’t sound fun so I opted for clear floral tape instead.  The other way is probably better but when you’re in a mood, the tape is perfect.

From cutting off a couple of branches in the back yard to taping the faux stems, both branches together took about an hour and a half.  And they cost only $15 a piece because I used three 50% off fall bundles from Michael’s.  When you cut the bundles apart, they go along way.

iron chair with pillow, pumpkin and cornstalks

Since I had so much orange going on, I figured what’s a little more.  Using traditional orange pumpkins did the trick for filling in here and there.  Plus, they are the cheapest around.  I found an Aldi’s and they sell them for $3.50.  Everyone else around me sells them for double.  Six cost me around $20.00.  Not bad!

hanging basket with fall picks

I already had the throw blanket, the pillows, and the garland to swirl around the pumpkins that sit in the pots.  Instead of storing the large faux boxwood wreaths located on the screens, they got a new spot around the light fixtures.  I like how the green really stands out from the curb.

Now the empty screens needed something else.  The easy task of adding floral foam and fall picks seemed quick and ideal.  I wanted to hang velvet ribbon from the front of the baskets.  It didn’t necessarily need a cute knob but it’s all about the details, right?

full porch with pumpkins, cornstalks and lights on

When the Mister came home, he secured the new fall tree branches to the light fixtures and bazinga – that’s how to create an autumn porchette with lively fall color.

gathered cornstalk pieces hanging on glass door

The last thing to do was find a spot for the pieces that fell off the cornstalks.  You can’t let things go to waste so I simply tied them together and hung it on the front door.  Yay free!  It looks better in person and as you walk up the drive to the front door, you feel as if it’s truly autumn!

Next up is Ms. Marty at A Stroll Thru Life.  Another super sweet blogger with a heart of gold.  Then don’t forget to check out everyone else’s posts below.  You’ll see so many great ideas!

Love the extra cornhusks on the door, Cindy! Hubs was negative when he saw the messy pile of them on the driveway. I said, “don’t throw any of them away; I’ll use them all!” His engineering self always wants to clean up and control things:( ๐Ÿ™ The way you styled them so simply is perfection!

    • October 3, 2023 / 4:53 pm

Thank you Lora. My engineer husband likes to control things too but he just says something and doesn’t clean it up unless I ask. He’d say he doesn’t clean because I won’t like the way he does it. Hmmm.

Your porch is fabulous to begin with. I love that curved arch and the pretty brick. I love you pumpkins, and flowers and that little bench is so inviting. The leaves and tree branches are such fun additions and the garland is perfect. So beautiful and welcoming.

    • October 3, 2023 / 4:55 pm

Awe, thank you Ms. Marty! I appreciate your sweet comment. I forget how nice it can be and often take the neutral color brick for granted. You have me liking the look and style of my home again.

  17. October 28, 2023 / 7:30 am

Cindy, your porchette is lovely with all that fall color!!! I have bought NO pumpkins this year… I wanted stackers but they are hard to find and expensive! Six would be like $60!!! Mine didn’t grow this year (bugs ate the flowers and then the vines croaked in the heat). Oh, well. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Moving into winter planting instead. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Enjoy your beautiful porch with all its fall color! Happy to feature here at Share Your Style #408 this week. <3
    Big fall hugs,
