Hey there wonderful friends! Today I’m joining in a week long fall tour hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life. Fall is my favorite time of year in Texas. We finally cool down, the colors are beautiful, things aren’t brown and crunchy, and people are out and about more often. That means our friends pop over, eager to chat and maybe have a little apple cider. Just kidding. I’ve never served nor had apple cider in my life. Anyway, during the fall, how our home feels is important to me. So I’m sharing how to create a warm, relaxed feel around your home this autumn season.

If you’ve hopped over from Calypso in the Country, yay! I’m so glad you’re here. Didn’t you love her mix of fall colors? Shelley has such pretty style.
Texture is my first go-to for a cozy feel.
When I walk through our home I feel a sense of comfort and I think it’s mostly because of 3 things. There are more reasons but I’m concentrating on the obvious causes today. Texture is first. It’s explained as the physical feel of something – smooth, rough, fuzzy, slimy, squishy, hard, gritty and so much more. Texture has to do with how an object feels and its ingredients.
A good example are the golden hydrangeas on the mantel. I describe them as supple. The topiaries have a crunchy feel from the moss, the stems and the tops so to make them less harsh, I added velvet ribbon. To make the white plastic pumpkins more interesting, I wrapped a couple of vines around the bottoms. They are actually candle rings that had seen better days. The leaves were sad so I cut them off as well as cut the wire rings themselves to spread them out.
I’m a touchy feely kinda girl so softness is important. Our seating is cushy and each area has fluffy, plush elements. Whether in pillows, throws or cushions, I want a plop-yourself-down kinda vibe.
Texture comes in so many different forms. I love the new velvet curtains. The description said they were olive green. I wouldn’t call them olive green (more of a forest green) but I’m impatient and not willing to traverse the internet another 5 hours so they’re staying. Plus, they were inexpensive and they will look nice during Christmas and winter. I also enjoy the lamp in front of the window. The bubbles inside the glass and the pattern on the galvanized metal shade are fun.
Have interesting accouterments to look at.
That brings me to the second reason we get compliments on our home. It’s because we have interesting things to look at. We all have something unique and fun but don’t always display them. Get them out for all to see!
I smile each time I glance over at this fall mum watercolor by Michelle at Thistle Key Lane. She creates such beautiful pieces and she’s gotten a lot of “likes” on the watercolor leaf hanging on our front door basket. You can see that by clicking here. She sells her art work on Society 6 so be sure and check it out!
The other side of the living room has belongings you don’t see every day. That’s my thing I guess. I like stuff that’s different which is why I rarely purchase things from a large box retailer. Except Target and Hobby Lobby. No one should do without those two stores! LOL. Most people see the vintage hutch and say – what a great idea. Others come in and the look on their face says – that’s interesting. Ha!
It’s the first fall season since having the hutch so adding the feather wreath, the wood and rubber houses, faux stems and the fall print were so exciting. When I decorate an entire room, I like to keep things cohesive. I have several of the candle rings so adding those to more white plastic pumpkins on this side of the room keeps the room connected.
Continue color from room to room
The third element keeping our home warm, relaxed and cozy is color continuity throughout. I chose to use mostly greens and golds this year in our autumn decor. A little pumpkin spice here and there is fun as well. If you have a home where you like a lot of color, make sure and have at least one main color that is the same from space to space.
This year I’ve been super busy so I kept things in the less is more category. So pulling things out of the fall bins was easy. Anything that was bright orange or the decor in pale blue and cream all stayed packed away. I didn’t have anything large to hang over the mantel. So in keeping with interesting items, I made an autumn branch.
It was so easy and the statement it makes hanging on the wall makes it a keeper. I literally went into the back yard, cut a limb and used clear floral tape to attach full faux stems and not just individual leaves. That seems like a lot of extra work so I found that clear floral tape worked better for me than hot glue.
Because the mantel is the focal point in the dining room, I kept the table centerpiece super simple. I was having a hard time deciding what to do as a centerpiece. Every stem or table cloth or vase didn’t look right. So, this is what I ended up with. Doesn’t get much easier than grouping candles together with coordinating ribbon. LOL.
Same went for the side console table. I figured since it was further away from the mantel I could go a little more colorful and dramatic. The fall leaves are so bright that the other side of the console stayed minimal in color but still coordinating.
I can’t go without my little handmade houses! I almost put them away thinking because I had displayed them so long everyone would be tired of seeing them. Then I remembered, I wasn’t tired of seeing them! ๐ Just wait until you see the ones I made for Christmas! Pretty darn cute if I say so myself.
So there you go friends – using texture, interesting things to look at, and color coordination is how to create a warm relaxed feel around your home this autumn season. I love walking around the house each day. And I should have taken a few photos of the house in the evening time. It is so inviting!

Thank you Julia. Happy Fall!
This is a wonderful post! Love your explanations on how and why you picked your decor and how it flows from room to room. Very helpful!
Author
So glad you found it helpful! Thank you Elle.
That gorgeous grouping with the plaid chairs and ottoman just make me smile. Also, I am now digging out my wooden bead garland so I can drape a lamp. Fabulous tour my friend!
Author
I totally forgot about the beads on the lamp. Funny how everyone else notices things I see everyday and forget about. Guess that means y’all notice the dust as well. :0 Have a great week Laura.
I adore your beautiful fall decor, Cindy! It’s hard to pick a favorite but I love the stone fireplace styling and I love that cool branch you hung over the dining room mantel. It really makes a statement! I am always inspired when I visit your blog. Great touring with you again!

Aww, thank you Shelley, you made my day. It’s hard coming up with new things sometimes. Especially when you don’t want to go out and buy things. I don’t know how people do it! Happy Fall friend.
You did a beautiful job of fall styling, Cindy!! I LOVE those green velvet curtains…what?!?! SO PRETTY!!! That branch you made is gorgeous hanging on the wall. I love it all!!!
Author
So sweet of you to say Rachel, thank you. We had some visitors last week and we sat in the dining room. I made them sit facing the mantel instead of the opposite side like they did before. They needed to appreciate the branch. LOLOLOL!
Oh, I love it all. Your home is so beautiful and I love how you use texture to create such inviting and interesting spaces. I adore those little houses you made and can’t wait to see the ones you’ve made for Christmas. I am never able to find a favorite in your home, I am just always impressed with your attention to detail. Thanks so much for joining the tour again this season. Love visiting your home.
Author
Thank you so much Marty. I love your sweet comment. I tend to be an over-thinker so you noticing some of the details makes me smile. And visit anytime! Love hopping with you!
Your branch above the mantel is gorgeous. I’m late to the clear floral tape party!! But I’m going to have to find it. AND Thanksgiving and Christmas are perfect for hot cider simmering on the stove. delicious. Happy cool weather, Cindy. Loved the tour!
Author
I suppose I need to try cider this year. I’ve not thought of it simmering on the stove. That sounds yummy if even only for the smell. Thanks so much Debra!
So pretty, my friend. I love the warmth of fall decor. HappyFall!
Author
Thank you Renae. Much appreciated!
Love it ALL, Cindy! The first things I noticed in your living room were the pops of color in the pillows and curtains. I love how you’ve got your furniture angled in that space, and the new hutch is an exciting plaything for you. The DR – wow, that branch totally make a statement, and the coordinated colors and restrain of overdoing it all totally appeals to me. Love the velvet ribbon trim on the topiaries in the LR and the candles on the DR table. I like cool and different things to look at too. Your artwork by Michelle is very nice.

Wow, I don’t think you missed a thing Rita! I have to say, I’m liking that I didn’t go overboard this year with the fall stuff like I usually do. Maybe next year I’ll do even less?! Thank you so much.
I love the colors you chose this year, everything looks just beautiful. That golden color reminds me of fields of wheat, that’s ready this time of year. Have a blessed week and happy Fall!!
Author
I love that golden color during this time of year Marlene. I wish we lived near fields of wheat just so I could see them blowing in the wind. Glad you visited today. I’m going to see if we can take a drive and see some fall foliage. Happy fall to you too. ๐
I love how you styled your home for fall Cindy. Those faux leaf stems in the glass vases are my favorite! And that hutch is amazing! You should definitely share it more often…so pretty and fun to style the shelves. It was wonderful touring with you today. Pinned!

I always think people are tired of seeing things so your sweet comment is just what I needed to read today. Thank you very much AnnMarie!
Love your beautiful home! That little watercolor piece is absolutely adorable! And that branch you created! What a statement! Hope you plan on doing a tutorial on it. Genius idea! Thanks for sharing!
Author
I appreciate that Lori, thank you. I always feel the DIY’s/Crafts I do are so easy they don’t need a tutorial. I’ll think about it though. Glad you could visit today!
Cindy
Everything looks so beautiful!
Author
I appreciate that. Thanks for the visit too.
Love, love, love everything. the colors and the decorations just feel very organic and inviting.

Completely obsessed with all the colors and textures you’ve used to create a cozy fall home, Cindy. it’s all totally gorgeous. I wish I lived closer we could light the candles and catch up for hours! Hope your birthday week has been filled with all good things, CoCo

Aww, thank you Denise. The branch is probably the easiest DIY I’ve ever done. I love it!
Oh, Cindy! The greens and golds are such a pretty color combination for the fall season. The branch above the mantel is such a stunning detail. Love your gorgeous fall home tour, my friend.

That’s how I feel about YOUR fall home Kim! Thanks for visiting and the sweet compliment.
Cindy, this may just be my favorite home tour of yours. The velvet curtains are a real game changer along with the beautiful array of jewel tones that you carried into each area. AND of course I’m also loving the sculptural feeling of the branch over the mantel. It just all flows so well and gives off the happiest cozy fall vibes. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see how you displayed the little mum watercolor, and yes I pinned it LOL! Thank you so much for the sweet mention. I hope this has been a fun week for the birthday girl, you might as well celebrate thru the weekend! Hugs my friend!
Author
Aww, you’ve made my day, thank you! I think those velvet curtains is a game changer as well. When I walk through the living room it shouts – get your Hallmark puzzle book and sit a spell. I love it. And thanks for the birthday wishes. I still have 12 more days of celebrations! Woohoo!
Everything looks beautiful, Cindy! And I love the warm colors, especially the green of the drapes and velvet ribbon. But my very, most favorite thing of all is the branch over the mantel (swoon)!!
Author
You are so sweet Kate, thank you! These small seasonal changes have made a huge impact on how I feel at home. Hope you have a wonderful week.
I love the ribbon around the candles and the pumpkins on the mantel. The water color by Michelle is so perfect!
Author
I love Michelle’s work and am already thinking I want more! Thank you for the visit Kristin. Happy Sunday!
I love your beautiful fall colors! They are just gorgeous and your tips are so useful too…everything is so thoughtful and has a purpose, which I love! That branch is gorgeous too! Your fall home is so welcoming! xo
Author
Thanks so much Tamara. You sweet comment has made my day. Hope your week is exciting!
Your home is so cozy and beautiful Cindy! So many soft and cozy textures, it’s perfect for fall. I especially love love your fireplace…the stonework is gorgeous!
Author
Thanks so much. I used to hate that stone fireplace. The mantel was also stone which made it very uneven and it was so shallow I couldn’t do much with it. Glad the hubs made a mantel to go over the existing one! Now I love it. Thanks for the visit. Hope you have a great week.
Your living spaces look so cozy, Cindy! The green chair you have looks to be the exact same color as our sofa! And your black mantle just makes my heart happy! Love the asymmetrical design of the mantle decor – it’s my fave! Pinned ๐
Author
I very rarely do asymmetrical but with that branch, it was a must. I was thinking (if I can stand it) I should keep the branch up all year round. What do you think? Too much? Thanks so much Cindy. Happy Friday!
Everything looks so lovely, Cindy. I love how you were careful to add in texture. That makes such a difference! That branch that you added above the mantel is amazing!
Author
Thanks so much Suzy. I love the branch too. It was the easiest DIY yet!
I love all of the Fall stems and greenery and what you did with the mantel is gorgeous!
Author
Thanks so much Kathy. Makes my day reading that. Hope you have a great weekend.
