So you know I was griping about my house earlier this week, well one of the ladies that came over said she loved the idea of the frame I hung in our guest bathroom. Not sure why I’d never thought of sharing how I use empty frames in my decor but today is the day.
I find great frames all over the place; thrift stores, garage sales, the attic, junk stores and in the trash of all places. No one should be throwing away a frame for goodness sake! So here are a few ideas for you.
HOW I USE EMPTY FRAMES IN MY DECOR
Here’s the one my home group friend commented on. I love the idea of adding an empty frame over the stuck on builder grade mirrors for a fun variation. I’ve actually changed the frame a couple of times depending on the season. It’s hung with a simple nail above the mirror. Easy peasy, lemon squeazy!
This is a different frame (and updated wall color) that is used when decorating for Christmas time. 🙂
Use Twine and clip fun cards or tags
Y’all I got this frame cheap! Like $10 cheap! It was off of the Facebook garage sale site or Facebook Marketplace. I love that thing. If you are ever in need of oh pretty much ANYTHING, check out your local Facebook site. It’s separated out by your area so you don’t have to drive far to get it. You post saying you want it, they message you with their address, you mosey up to their house, your item is sitting on the porch, you grab it, leave the money under the mat and boom – deal of the decade is yours! You never even see the seller.
I stapled twine to the back of this one and use a tiny clothes pin to hang different pictures, post cards, etc. At Christmas time I hang real greenery, a tiny wreath that’s really a napkin ring or an ornament. Whatever floats my boat.
Hang a wreath inside
This black frame is hanging in our bedroom. It has had an “R” in it, a Scripture verse too but this season it has a $10.00 spring wreath I added a few more flowers to. I love it. I think the empty frame gives whatever is inside an added boost of pretty. Just imagine the wreath all by its lonesome. Bleh. That’s not how I roll friends. 😉
Highlight plates or platters
This is one of my favorite ways to use empty frames – for plates or platters. You know I have an addiction to dishes (that post here) so this way I can change the dish out as much as I want. I’ve had this frame since 2003. I bought it at Kirkland’s for$19.99. I think I’ve gotten my money’s worth but it didn’t look like this. If you want to see the before, click here. It’s the very first picture in that post.
Use old windows and frames together
This one (gray 4 square) looks like a window but it was actually a frame. Got it at a church garage sale for $5 bucks. Took the glass out and leaned it up with these old windows.
Use frames inside of other frames
This frame is used to highlight special memories. The bottom right frame holds the adoption tags from our BLM Mustang, Sherlock and Scout our BLM Burro. The cow tag is the year the Mister and I got married. I think hanging them inside another frame makes it a little more whimsical.
There you go. That’s how I use empty frames in my decor. Hope you all have a wonderful Mothers Day! Even if you aren’t a mom of a child, you had a mom, bless her or be thankful for her – she chose life. If you aren’t a mom to a human, you might be a mom to a pet. Love on them – they love you more. Unless it’s a cat, then they probably don’t. :/ Sorry. Just go have some cake.
I love your ideas – I use empty frames to – to show case a plate, postcard, large letter; I’ve hung one over my builder’s grade mirror too but I’d forgotten about doing that! Thanks for reminding me! And I’ve even used them to frame another frame. They are so versatile and like you said can be found in a variety of places for less. Wonderful ideas.
PS
Cats are affectionate – you just have to understand their language and remember they are not dogs. 😉

LOL – are you sure about the cats? Just kidding, I know it is. I’m allergic so don’t get to cuddle much with them but my father-in-law has a cat that I think is hysterical. He wrestles and plays with you! Hope you have a great weekend.
These are fabulous ideas …..especially love the one with the white plate…

I’ve always enjoyed the frame that hangs in your guest bathroom. It makes me feel pretty every time I look at myself.

Hmmm. Like “Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all”? We all know who looks in that mirror the most. 😉
New ideas for empty frames. Wow! Yes, cats can be snooty and independent but so loving (when they want to be) and yes it takes a cat person to understand them! That is cat person not catty person I hope you understand!!! Haha!

Yes Nancy I totally get it! LOL. Thanks for popping over today. Happy Weekend!
Loved your frame ideas. I can’t pass up cheap, i.e., inexpensive, picture frames and have several boxes full. Every once in a while I match up pix to my frames and mats for my booth. I am a cat person; my SO has come to appreciate cats as they just LOVE him (I think part of it is his body heat!). He was always a dog person. Dogs have masters, cats have support staff! Cats were once worshipped as Gods in Egypt; they have never forgotten this. As long as their humans remember these basic tenets, things go along OK. We remember to leave Squeak in charge of Dutchess when we leave the house; it is still standing when we come home although we have awoken to find mouse parts in the middle of our bed (yech!).

Mouse parts – Oh my word! I am allergic so I don’t get around cats enough to know how they really feel about things. Haha. My FIL has one but I think the cat thinks he’s a dog. LOL. Thanks for stopping by and liking the frame idea!
Awesome ideas and Happy Mothers Day to you, pray it was the greatest.

Hi Cindy! What a cute ending to your post!! I do love picture frames and have a bunch. I did just donate a frame recently but I only bought it for the really special handkerchief that was in it! It wasn’t a great frame ~ I would have kept it then!!!
Glad you had a great Mother’s Day,
Hugs,
