Hey hey hey! Some friends and I were having a little chit chat over on Instagram discussing how many people are staying home and working even though the company opened back up. That got us on the conversation of stay-at-home necessities. Coffee was one of those must haves. So today I’m showing you the Farmhouse style DIY coffee cup holder I made. Just in case you needed one. π

I am not a coffee drinker. The thought of coffee in the morning has never been my thing. I prefer water. Well, water with strawberry watermelon flavoring in it. If I do have coffee and that’s maybe once every 5 years, it turns out the color of a bowl of Cheerios.
The coffee cup holder partially got started because I was looking in our cabinets and trying to find space for all of the coffee cups I pulled out of the dishwasher. We have 2 shelves in one cabinet dedicated to just coffee cups or mugs. Some are for Christmas which is fine but the rest are mostly free ones given to us by different companies, purchased on vacations (ugh), won in a bingo contest or given to us full of candy as a sorry, we didn’t know you were coming gift. It is ridiculous!
I’m over it and decided to give most of them away. And in order to make my life easier because I’m the one that puts the dishes away and the coffee cup shelf is hard to reach, I’m doing myself a favor. A big beautiful favor. I’m making a coffee cup holder to keep on the counter next to the coffee makings. No more needing a footstool and no more fighting to find a space for the cups.
SUPPLIES:
1 – 2 x 2 wooden piece (post) at 16″ long
A wooden fence post topper for upper base
1 – 1 x 6″ wood piece for bottom base
4- vintage spoons for hooks
4 – 1/2″ screws to hold on the spoon hooks
1 – 4″ screw to hold the base to the pole
1 – drawer pull or knob of choice for accent topper
Paint color of choice
Sponge brush or paint brush
Drill to make the holes in wood pieces
Hammer to flatten spoons and 2″ dowel rod to bend spoon handles
Saw if you don’t get your pieces cut for you at the store
Router if you want the edges to be curved (only for looks, not necessary)
Another reason I made the adorable coffee cup holder is because I received 4 coffee mugs from Sweese.net These mugs are awesome! First, they match the kitchen which is hard to do. Second, they have larger handles for man hands. Third, they are commercial grade quality so safe for the dishwasher, oven, microwave, and even the freezer! So when we make mug macaroni and cheese or mug cake, they’ll be perfect!
Steps to making a Farmhouse style coffee cup holder
Find the center of the wood pieces by making an “X” with a pencil (mark it from corner to corner)
Drill a hole through the 2 base bottom pieces and the bottom of the 2″ x 2″ post
Screw all pieces together and connect with the 4″ screw
Use a hammer to flatten the spoons. I suggest doing this on a piece of wood and concrete
Bend the handles using the dowel rod to get your hook shape to hold the cups
Drill a small hole in all 4 spoons then screw them in where you’d like to hang your cups (I did one on each side of the pole to keep it even)
Paint the entire wood piece (before you add the topper and vintage spoons)
Once it’s fully dry, drill the size hole you need for the topper
Hang mugs and enjoy!
I think this is one of the cutest Farmhouse style DIY coffee cup holders I’ve ever seen! I know, I sound like a mom who just received a gift from her child. But I do love it and think it’s perfect for us. Are you staying at home more and want to carve out a cute space for coffee instead of just a plain old necessary space? This DIY is for you!
If you want some new sturdy mugs or coffee cups, check out Sweese. They’d make a great gift and Sweese carries lots of other fun dining and entertaining sets. π
HI Cindy, This is the cutest thing! And, you did all this and you don’t drink coffee! Love that! And mug macaroni sounds like a recipe blog post! I love this! Happy Day! laura in Colorado

Thanks so much Laura! It’s true, no coffee for me. I definitely did it for selfish reasons though. Less counter clutter and less crap in the cabinets. LOL.
Clever of you to make an adorable mug holder

Thank you Gail. I felt very clever but to be honest, it was mostly the Mister putting it together. I mention to him often that we are “1” and I just know he want’s to be included in my projects. :0
Super cute!!! Iβm an iced tea drinker, all day, every day, but the hubs has turned the LR into his (maybe forever office?) space and he is definitely a coffee person. Thanks!!!

I could drink iced tea all day every day! It’s the best. Although a big Diet Coke w/Vanilla from Sonic is nice every once in a while. Oh and Big Red. Have you ever had Big Red? The Mister says it’s embalming fluid. I say it’s yum! Thanks for the visit Gayle.
I love this. It is certainly a much needed accessories in most kitchens, and inexpensive to make. Love using the spoons for hooks! You’re a genius and terrific woodworker!

LOL Barbara! The Mister always has a look on his face when I say I have a new project in mind. He knows he’s the one that has to do most of the work. LOL. I should remind him that we are trading wood skills for laundry skills.
You are so crafty my friend and creative.

It’s the sad truth Yami. Wait until one day you hear my screechy Mini Mouse voice. You’ll really laugh because they don’t quite go together. Just sayin’. Glad you could visit today! Big hugs
Very nice! Clever design, and Iβve always loved the way you bend those silver spoons and use them for hooks.
Glad you were able to give a shout-out to Big Red, too! I always laugh at the time I had a friend here from Virginia, and when sampling Big Red his comment was βin any other state it would just be called redβ. Too funny, and too true! Oh, and that cute model pouring coffee was a bonus, too! π

That’s true! It’s BIG Red here. LOL. Macy was a trooper and actually took the last photo in this post. Her photography skills are improving every day. She didn’t like the apron but didn’t complain. Hope you have a great weekend. π
What a cute project! Congrats on getting rid of extra cups. My cupboard is so full that if a new one comes in, one has to go! I solved my cup overload by hanging them on one of those expandable coat racks; stretched it out to fill the space available and hung “his” cups there! Everyday ones are in the cupboard!

Sounds like another great idea Kathy! My donations pile is getting larger. Hoping they open up soon so I can tote it over there. I’m ready for it to be gone! Thanks for the visit.
Cindy, this is just adorable! Love it.

Thank you Rachel. So far it’s doing a great job of helping with clutter and me needing a stool to put away the dishes! Woo hoo!
Love this so much, Cindy, It’s such a great way to stay organized. Especially, since kitchen and cabinet clutter can pile up so quickly! On a side note, it totally blows my mind that you’re not a coffee drinker. You always put together the most beautiful coffee, cocoa and drink stations. They all just make me want to grab a mug and curl up on your couch π Sending you hugs, CoCo

I know, right?! I don’t even like hot cocoa. One time I was at the top of a ski slope in the coolest mountain top restaurant and ordered a hot chocolate with Bailey’s Irish Creme. I thought I’d love it. All my friends did. And what could be better than that after a long day of skiing, right? I had two sips and ordered a Diet Coke! I have a serious problem. Thanks for the visit today and sweet comment. π
This is gorgeous Cindy! I have so many coffee cups I could use several of these π Thanks so much for sharing this at Farmhouse Friday – I’m featuring you at this week’s party!

Thanks Niky. I have a thing for vintage silverware so I need to continue to come up with ways to actually enjoy them instead of leaving them in a drawer.
I donβt drink coffee. But this is awesome and you did a good job on this cup holder

Thank you Pamela. Iβm not a coffee drinker either but the Mister does and he loves things being handy. I like things being contained and clean! Win win. π
I love, love, love this repurpose, Cindy! I’ve used flattened forks, now I need to do this with some spoons! Pinning! Congrats on some features, friend:)
