Howdy Friends! Today I’d like to show you a little something I worked on this week. I turned an old small chest of drawers into something much cuter. I suppose I’m bragging but just look at it! The old chest of drawers was moved from a bedroom to the bathroom then to the mudroom and now to the pantry. There’s no way we can get rid of it. This house has only 2 small closets therefore, not enough storage. So check out this easy farmhouse inspired chest of drawers mini-makeover.
Farmhouse Inspired Chest of Drawers Mini Makeover
That is what the chest of drawers looked like before the mini-makeover. I call it mini because I couldn’t change out the hardware. Not sure who made the chest but none of the handles are on straight. I am impatient so removing the handles, adding wood putty to the holes, sanding, painting, drilling new holes and installing new hardware was going to take longer than a day so ex-nay that endeavor. Plus these new drawer pulls won’t be here for a couple of weeks.
DIY Easy Instructions
Since the chest of drawers was going in the pantry, I didn’t want it to look like a chest of drawers. So I removed the two top drawers and decided to install a shelf instead. The Mister found an old piece of plywood in the shed and measured it out for the shelf. Next he cut out, using a circular saw, the divider piece for the drawers.
He used one of the cut out divider pieces from the drawers and added it back in to the middle of the chest as added stability for the shelf. After the paint had dried on the shelf, we lined up the screw to the new middle piece and screwed the shelf together. Is that clear as mud?! It’s really one of the easiest DIY’s you’ll ever do.
Last Step for the Easy Mini Makeover
What makes this chest farmhouse inspired is the last step. Using a spring tension rod and flour sack towels from Walmart I made the cutest curtains ever to keep hidden the items/ugliness on the shelf. Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, my next post will be how I made said cutest curtains. ๐
Look at the chest now. Didn’t that look easy? Instead of a farmhouse inspired chest of drawers mini-makeover, really, it’s a repurposed chest of drawers which literally took us 30 minutes to make except for waiting on the paint to dry.
I love how it turned out and the pantry needed more storage! If you’d like to see the before bathroom with another chest of drawers mini-makeover, click here for that. It has some budget friendly ideas as well!
That Mister is one handy man! Happy 4th of July to you both. ๐

So true Marlene and around here it’s very very limited. Did I mention very limited storage?! I have a hard time finding things because we’ve stuffed it somewhere and can’t remember where. Or it’s being stored at the other house (3-1/2 hrs away). Super frustrating! Hope you have a great celebration today too. Thanks for the visit!
I absolutely love how you find ways to repurpose and move things to keep it fresh!!
You DO make it all seem very easy…..

Awe, thanks Jeanette. I do love to repurpose but you know I don’t have a problem throwing things away. Hmmm. Looking at the trash pile, maybe I do have a problem?! So glad you could visit AND COMMENT! ๐
