Good Morning friends and welcome to Farmhouse Friday 310. I have to tell on myself. I had a lapse of judgement the other night. I’d forgotten to bring in the garbage cans and went outside barefoot. The first bad decision was not turning on the porch light because I was in my pajamas.
FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 310
Well, I stepped on a cicada. I jumped higher than I thought was possible only to come down and land on another! Ugh! After shuffling around in the grass trying to scrape my feet I was in quite the horn-tossin’ mood. How is it that even after a half century of lessons, I’m still learning? Oh well, at least no one else was up to see the spectacle. But on a good note, all the birds around here are fat and happy with extra dinner courses and the mister got the garbage cans the next day.
There were 2 separate blog hops this week. One was a Pinterest Challenge where I shared several ways to use boxwood wreaths. Click below the photo to see that post.
A Pinterest Challenge Showing Fun Ways To Use Boxwood Wreaths
The next one was a Christmas in July hop. I don’t usually do those but learned another lesson around this time last year and thought I’d share it. Plus, I found so many great ideas from hopping around reading everyone’s awesome tips. Click the title under the photo to see that post.
5 Reasons to Collect Silver Pieces for a Merry Christmas!
Since it’s almost time for a lot of kids to go back to school, I thought it would be fun to squeeze in a few fun ideas before the end of summer. So today’s features are all about the kids and grandkids.
When I saw these coffee filter butterflies from Raquel at Organized Island, it gave me fond memories of the good old summer days spent at VBS. My advice – if you don’t have any kids around, borrow some! These were a lot of fun to create.
Who doesn’t enjoy a drink with an umbrella? Or maybe a fish?! I’d love drinking out of a small fish bowl and the kids will too. Check out how to make these fun little drinks by Nicolle from Our Tiny Nest. I think there will be smiles for days with these!
Just look at those little jellyfish faces. Sam from Simple Everyday Mom shares the DIY and makes it looks so easy. I can see their little fingers squinching and squeezing now. So fun!
I think there will be smiles for days with these yummies. Be sure to check out how Sara from Must Have Mom made these rainbow jello popsicles. I will! Not everything has to be about the kids. 😉

Girl, I’m so glad it was dark! But I need to stop taking short cuts and being lazy. It was only 30 steps or so to get shoes for heavens sake. Thanks Lora!
Ewwww. those things are so huge and nasty… and loud. They’re all over the place up here. Thanks for having us over Cindy. Have fun and stay cool. Thanks for having us over!

Yes they are! I wonder when they’ll go back to the ground? BTW, have you ever seen a cicaida killer wasp? I’m still looking for one. Thanks for linking up Debra! Happy weekend.
Ewww, I despise bugs, especially those big ol’ cicadas. Steppin on one gives me the shivers! Glad you survived. 🙂

Thanks, you too Tanya!
Oh my word! As much as I loved seeing you dance as a child, dreams of watching you do the cicada dance as an adult surpassed all memories of you in ballet. I was so happy you made it through the entire dance without hurting yourself.
What a spectacular hop today. So colorful and so many great ideas for kids. And some really fabulous ones for adults too. Thank you Cindy for the fun.

The hubs went to the farmhouse and I stayed home so I am doing exactly what I want! It’s fabulous! 😉
Oh my… I can so relate to your cicada trauma… One night, the house was pitch dark, and I was walking through the kitchen. I stepped on a ‘grape’, and it stuck to my foot, so I went to grab it off my foot and then it was moving in my hand! I screamed and chucked it through the kitchen, dining room and into the living room. Jared came running in, and when we found what I stepped on, it was a Jerusalem Cricket, aka, Potato bug, aka Child of the Earth. Have you seen one? Look it up… it kinda looks like a fetus! So GROSS! Also had one crawl up my pant leg and bite me! THAT hurt!
Thanks for hosting… and letting me share my story, too!

Yikes, I’ll look that up. I laughed out loud thinking about you throwing it as far as you could. Been there done that. Thanks for the chuckle.
