Spread the love

I always love this time of the month.  It’s when several of my blogger friends and I get together for a Pinterest Challenge.  We all start with the same inspiration photo and see how we can change it up to fit our style and hopefully help you out with ideas too!  I’m going to do an end of summer coffee table vignette today.  And if you arrived here from Follow The Yellow Brick Home, then welcome – I’m so glad you’re here.

This months inspiration photo is from Yvonne at StoneGable Blog.  She always puts together a pretty table vignette.  I try not to do the same thing each time I throw one together but this time I took my own advice and walked through my 5 easy steps to the perfect vignette.  Here’s how.

End of Summer Coffee Table Vignette

Step 1:

In the above photo, Yvonne corrals her decor items in a tray.  That’s the best place to start.  Almost anything will work.  Try a flat bottomed basket, a tray, a plate or in my case, an old cabinet door.  πŸ˜‰  You know I have to throw in some sort of vintage or chippy goodness, right?!   This cabinet door cost me $5 bucks at a Vintage Fair a couple of years ago and it’s been used in many places during that time.  I like that it’s old, the scalloped edge on the panels, it’s a soft green color, and that it still has it’s small latch.  You may see dirt and grime but it’s been cleaned – I promise.

Step 2:

I find it easy to always have books in my tablescapes or vignettes.  They work well for filler, for adding height and for adding color.  Books are practically the first thing I grab for a vignette of any sort.  If the color of the books don’t look good, you can paint them, cover them with paper, decoupage the covers with napkins, or even cut the bindings off.  Make them work for you!  I’ve stacked these for color and needed height.

Step 3:

Either real or fake, greenery is next.  Not everyone likes greenery but I find it makes the area seem more alive.  What do think about using greenery in your decor?  Love it, kinda like it or is it a big fat nope in your home?  I tried not using greenery for a couple of weeks about 5 years ago.  Remember when everyone was getting rid of their fake ficus trees that sat in the corners?  Hmm, maybe that was like 10 years ago… anyway, I tried it and each time I walked through the room, it was cold and bland.  I did throw away my ficus and well, let’s just say the dust level went way down.

Step 4:

Finding an accessory you’d like to highlight is next.  It can be a picture, a candle, a bottle or jar, flowers in a vase, an antique goodie, anything.  I typically choose something that works with the colors I have going on in the vignette.  The coffee table before had a basket with a TV remote, magazines and the same piece of greenery in it.  Blah.  So for the end of summer, I decided to add more blue this time and pulled in the colors from the books.  The jar/candle holder is one of my favorites.

Easy Vignette Step 5:

Last but not least, I count the objects I have and make sure it comes out to be an odd number.  In this case I had the cabinet door, the books, the greenery and the blue jar.  For whatever reason, odd numbers are more pleasing to the eye.  I honestly have used an even amount of items and thought it looked fine.  In this case, I think adding the beads was the right call.  If you want to be picky and count the books as individuals, there’s still an odd amount with the three separate books.  LOL – I’m on top of things today!

With our end of summer coffee table vignette, we still have room on the cabinet door for a drink or two and I’m enjoying the change.  Now it’s time to hop on over to my friend Lora B’s!  I adore her vintage style and her creativity always gives me wonderful ideas.  But don’t forget to check out the others!  You’ll find a lot of inspo.  And if you missed last month’s summer mantel Pinterest Challenge, click here to see it. πŸ˜‰

Beautiful as always Cindy and I for one love this old cabinet door. The latch being there adds so much charm.

I’ll use greenery such as eucalyptus garland in different ways and topiary. I agree with you on the beads they finish this off perfectly.

Enjoy your day hope it’s not in triple digits anymore.

Well we are only supposed to hit 99 degrees with 60% humidity today – Woo hoo! I have always liked eucalyptus garland but have never purchased any. I should put that on my list. And ooh, I love love love topiaries in all shapes and sizes! Thank you Cindy, have a great week.

Cindy it looks great! I adore that vintage chippy door as the “tray.” I also love the jar candle holder. I just found an old atlas jar at a yard sale, now I know what to do with it!

So last year I picked up a ficus tree at a consignment shop even though I thought I was over them years ago. I needed a big pop of green in the dining room corner, and fiddle leaf fig trees were expensive at the time and also not really the look I was wanting. As it turns out, ficus is trending again! I just had a feeling they would make a comeback sometime. I love greenery. I think it really helps with the winter blahs too.

Great tips here! Thanks for hosting this fun challenge!

    • August 27, 2019 / 12:09 pm

Say whaaaaaat – Ficus trees are trending? No way! I shouldn’t be surprised. Like when leggings with oversized sweat shirts or bell bottom jeans came back. Goodness me, let’s see something new. And I don’t mean plastic see through jumpsuits, either. Did you see that?! What the cuss people. Get real. Wow, I feel like that was a rant. LOL. Glad you stopped by Amber!

Your vintage door makes a great base for your coffee table vignette. I love both the detail of the door and its pretty color. The beads are the perfect finishing touch to this pretty display.

Cindy that door was a find girl! I love the chipiness ( is that even a word?) and the color….. so beautiful. I love these Pinterest challenges! So many great ideas.

    • August 27, 2019 / 12:12 pm

Thank you Tammy. When I saw the door propped up in the back I thought for sure someone had already purchased it because of the cost. So glad I wasn’t the only one that thought that. It’s been a fave for a while now. So glad you stopped by.

Me too! Each time I used a basket, I feel our drinks were going to topple over. Glad I finally changed to a more solid surface. Thanks for the visit Julie!

Love it Cindy. I am definitely a greenery person most of it is artificial because real it’s too much work πŸ˜‚.I think it adds so much to our room texture and color. Love the green door idea very creative my friend. I’m starting to get into the fall mood because temperatures have been in the low 70s but I’m sure that won’t last

    • August 27, 2019 / 4:25 pm

Man am I jealous of those temps! Still 99 degrees here today. Crossing my fingers for a cold front this weekend so I can start dragging out the fall decor. Thanks so much for the sweet comment. It means a lot. And I’m glad I’m not the only one loving artificial greenery! Fake is where it’s at! LOL

Cindy what a beautiful table. I love the design you have for the table. That is so cool. Love how you styled your table as well. The books and beads are my favorite accent pieces to use too. Thanks for hosting our challenge each month.

    • August 28, 2019 / 2:01 am

Thank you Terrie. The table is an old iron garden bench that I found in a consignment store years ago. I always like the different and quirky things. Kinda like me I guess πŸ˜„

  14. August 27, 2019 / 9:55 pm

Thanks again for such a fun blog hop, Cindy! This challenge is honestly one of my favorites because it’s so fun to see the variations on a theme. That cabinet door was a steal! I love how interesting it looks on the table with your other accents. Yes, I’m a fan of greenery, too. In fact, I think I need some more in my home! Pinning!

    • August 28, 2019 / 2:05 am

Yay – fellow lover of greenery! I find myself drawn to the faux plants at every store I go into. I probably need therapy but I can’t help myself! Glad you liked it and thanks for the Pin! πŸ˜ƒ

  15. August 28, 2019 / 8:55 am

Cindy, love the cabinet door as a base for your coffee table vignette. It’s amazing how many similar elements we have in common. Thanks you so much for picking a great image to inspire us.

    • August 28, 2019 / 11:37 am

Having such similar elements means we both have fantastic taste! LOL. But seriously, we do. It’s kinda hard not getting inspiration from Yvonne, right? Glad you liked it.

  16. August 28, 2019 / 10:12 am

You had me right away at the green, crusty cupboard door with the latch! That would have come home with me for sure-the details; swoon:) Love your simple steps to creating a vignette; perfectly breaks it down. Thanks for hosting, bestie! Hope life calms down a little bit for us, now that kiddos are back to school!
