Hi there! Almost a year ago I wrote a post about How to love the home you have. I remembered it this week when I almost started complaining about my bright blue kitchen – almost. But nope, I’m not doing it. This year I’m going to enjoy my bright and happy space. Why? Because once you have such a bold color on the walls, it’s basically go-all-in-or-go-home, so to speak. So I’m speaking and speaking it in blue! I’m going to incorporate the blue everywhere and I mean everywhere. In the dining room, the guest bath, the family room, the entry, everywhere!
But I promise it won’t be over-the-top or nauseating. It will be subtle touches in various places. π
Easy Ways to Add Color
I started by moving the sofa table from the freestyle wall collage, to another wall and gathered some of the blue glass pieces I’ve collected over the years. Each piece doesn’t need to be the same color or even the same style for that matter. You can display them together and it’ll look like it was meant to be all along.
The vintage bottles used to hold up the complementing books and the old transformers and french yogurt jar under the DIY chicken wire cloche are the perfect color to coordinate with the bright blue kitchen walls. Plus they work perfectly for a modern farmhouse look.
Spacing them out and giving your eye a place to rest looks better when making a vignette as well. The empty space in the middle moves the eye around so everything is noticed. It also looks less cluttered when spread out.
I moved our old Alexa too. Look how cute that no-sew cover is? Much better than a tall black tube don’t you think? If you’d like to see that super easy DIY, click here.
That was probably the quickest table vignette I’ve done in a while. It’s easy when you gather all of your items together first. That way it’s simple to pick and choose what you like.
So, easy ways to add color to your decor is by:
- Gather items or collections you have around the house. The pieces don’t have to be the same exact color or item. Mix them up.
- Pull out books that are similar in color. If you don’t have any, check thrift stores and garage sales. You can also just turn them around so the pages show for neutral color.
- Don’t forget the green! They are neutral when it comes to color and whether you add a small plant or a large wreath, they give every area a touch of energy.

I love your chicken wire cloche. Now, I’m on the outlook for an old lampshade! I would like to make several of these – one or two for me and some to give as gifts. They would be fantastic for a gardener to protect a new plant, or to cover one inside (from a cat like mine!) or just to use for decorative purposes. I love the picture of your cloche over the moss ball! Thanks so much for sharing.

I love this especially the wire cloche you made and the pops of color are so pretty. You have the best dressed Alexa. I agree better than a black tube.

We are both blue babes, Cindy. Love adding to my decor. Thanks for the idea. I have lots of blue glass jars, but Iβll have to keep my eye out for blue transformers – never thought of those. Pinned.

You commented – say whaaat?! Thank you Zamira! Very sweet of you to say. π
I am not sure if I’ve ever left a comment on your site…but, I really love your blog and I follow you thru email.
I love your pops of blue….years ago, my husband and I happened upon a crew taking transformers down and rewiring something or other…they were throwing all those beautiful glass transformers away…..needless to say, we were gathering them up so so fast.
We ended up with about 30 to 40 of them…some blue…some more green and some clear.
Here, 50 years later, I don’t have a single one.*sob
Through moves over the years…and giving a lot away to family and friends, I am transformerless !! π

Wow, thank you BJ. I’m excited to know you love my blog and are an email follower. Those are the best kind! Sorry to hear you’ve given up the transformers. I wish I could find some being thrown away. I’d be the fastest gatherer that ever gathered! I wonder if those men had wives that ever asked to have them brought home? Hmmm. Thanks for commenting and stopping by!
I love the different shades of blue you used, Cindy. It a came together beautifully.

I feel your gloom all the way down here Marlene. It’s dark and drizzly here today and the weather man says we are back in the 20’s next week! Bleh. Hope you have a great week too!
Gorgeous!! Come visit me and you’ll see how I done the same thing. I look around and the blue just feels so peaceful and good. π

Thank you Stacey! I’d love to come visit you. Name the day and time! Hope you are enjoying your new life – without a computer screen all day long!
My husband bought me a Keurig coffee maker, that same Aqua blue for Christmas. It will really stand out when we remodel the kitchen with the set of 50s Montgomery Ward metal cabinets in pink! I plan to use that color as accents.

Oh my word Josephine, no way?! With those cool cabinets, that sounds amazing! Hope you send pictures when you get it all done?! Aaaahhhh!
Bright blue, accent walls are always dreamy. And I love your blue bottles, they seem like some magical object and really draw attention. You’re right about including green in your home decor. It definitely instantly transforms space and makes it more cheerful and colorful. After all, that’s nature’s color and spring is just a few corners away. π
