Howdy Doody! Since I’ve been sharing the progress on our Dining Room makeover, I wanted to give you the deets on the dining chairs. We haven’t actually used them yet. Sat in them for a trial run, yes, but not for an extended amount of time for a meal. Saving that for Easter Sunday. 😉
The chairs we had were tall olive green parsons chairs. Not the most comfortable. When I sat down for any length of time, my legs started getting tingly because the circulation was cut off. Side note: I have short legs. As a matter of fact, if you ever see me out in a restaurant, we will not be in a booth. My legs practically stick straight out so I continue kicking the person across from me. Not pleasant for either of us.
Here are the new and improved dining chairs for a new and improved modern farmhouse dining room. I think they’ll be perfect for us.
LOL. Sorry for the side kick model. The chairs are from Pier 1 and are called the Kubu chair. This particular chair is an online only purchase. The chairs in the store have dark espresso colored legs. The chairs I got online work well with the floor and are called “natural stonewashed” legs. They were on sale and I had a 20% off coupon too. Yay me!
I thought with a white table, light wood floors, taupe walls and a black mantel, it was a lot going on. Now I think the multi-colored chairs seem to pull together the modern farmhouse look I’ve been wanting.
I decided to get a cushion. It gives an extra bit of height as well as a not-so-sterile look. The cushions also came from Pier 1. BTW – I was told Pier 1 is not going to be selling dining chair cushions anymore! So if you have some of these chairs or need to get some cushions, go now! Bonus, they are on clearance at the moment and going fast.
You know I like things a bit more eclectic, so instead of everything being all matchy matchy, I got 4 of the Kubu chairs then got 2 different chairs to sit at the ends of the table.
Aren’t they so cute and don’t they look great together? I love a deconstructed chair and even though this isn’t the real deal, I’m happy. This chair from Kirkland’s is way less expensive than any I’ve priced (by about half). They were also on sale and I had a 25% off coupon on top of that! Woo Hoo! I have a plan to do a little something different to these chairs but that’s another blog post later.
So that’s the 411 on the dining chairs for our modern farmhouse dining room. If you missed the “inspiration post” I had for this dining room, you can see that here. Next I’ll show the wall decor and then the big reveal!
What do you think? Anything you’d do differently? I love comments and opinions!
Love the combination you’ve put together! Isn’t mismatched so much more fun than the formal looks we used to do?

Yes it is! I’ve always been that way. I use to want things symmetrical but I’ve grown there too. 😉
Those look great! I think you pulled the look off perfectly!

Thank you Cecilia! Loved meeting you in person at KariAnne’s party! We need to have lunch sometime! 😀
I love your deconstructed host and hostess chairs! I haven’t sat in any of the woven chairs, I hope that they are comfortable. I think I would recover the chair covers in a vintage looking linen for an extra French Farmhouse look. I need to replace the dining chairs that I inherited along with my Duncan Phyfe style mahogany dining set. After my sister passed away, I found a 4 seat folding stadium bench. I need to do some minor repairs and make some cushions for it then that will be perfect for one side of the table. My table has 3 extra leaves, so it can sit 12 when needed.

Recovering the cushions is a great idea. I’ll probably try that when they get dirty. I have too many others projects at the moment! Your bench sounds fabulous. I’ve been looking for a pew for years but haven’t found the right one yet. Thank you Josephine for stopping by and for the great advice and sweet comments. ❤️ It’s greatly appreciated.
Looks great! I like that it has lots of textures & interesting neutrals. Lots of character!

Me too Laura. We all need a bit of character.
Your table is beautiful and definitely farmhouse. However, the woven chairs have a beachy look like the ones in FL homes and beach condos. But, this is just my opinion, so enjoy your beautiful dining room!

I can totally see how the Kubu chairs would look nice in a beachy setting too! Another reason I love them. So versatile! Thanks for visiting. ❤️
I LOVE both the chairs! They are a perfect choice. The deconstructed chair is fabulous. The room is really coming together.

Thanks Laura! I actually saw the chairs when I was at the book signing for KariAnne in Houston. 😍
I am a big believer in texture and your chairs provide loads of texture and great lines. Love your choices!
