Decorating a 3 Foot Christmas Tree

Hello sweet Friends!  Well I have some news… I have one small area of my Christmas decorating done.  Big news, I know – LOL!  The house is a wreck and there’s a teeny bit of fall decor still sitting on the floor that needs to be put away.  I was in the process of being organized and systematized when a delivery arrived.  I was so excited to open the box because I knew it was my King of Christmas 3′ Spruce trees – aaaahhhh!

They come in a box of two and when I pulled them out, all I had to do was fluff the stems.  This made me stop all that was important and start clearing a spot for one of these little cuties.  I think it’s the perfect size for a buffet, side table or mantel.  And the fact that it can be used indoors or out is a bonus so you may see more in my urns out on the porchette later.  😉

I chose the 3′ Tribeca Spruce tree not only for it’s realistic look and size but because it has a battery operated timer for the built-in LED lights.  That means no extra timers and no extension cords.  Woo hoo!  Anyone else wish everything in our homes was cordless?  I’m raising both arms and wavin’ em high friends!

This year I’m hoping to keep things a bit more simple.  Take the less-is-more approach.  Oh please, who am I kidding?  Tomorrow it will look like Santa dumped a full sleigh ride load of decor and said if I wanted to keep it all I had better find a place for it before the elves noticed.  Just kidding.  No, I’m actually not.  The Mister is a witness to the toe stubbing tripping hazard.

Decorations for a 3 foot Christmas Tree

I’ve not had a 3′ tree before so I didn’t exactly know how to decorate one.  Many of my Christmas decorations are kinda heavy and somewhat big so that wasn’t going to work.  First things first, I covered the bronze looking urn it came in.  It’s not ugly, just not my style.  So another brown paper bag to the rescue!  Look how cute it is.  I like that it’s both casual and slightly rustic.  If you don’t have a brown gift bag you could use a scarf, scrap piece of fabric or paint the urn to work more with your decor style.

For the decorations, I used Christmas floral picks from Hobby Lobby.  With the size picks I used, you’ll need five large floral picks (Poinsettias), nine pinecone picks, and three branch type picks for the top.  If you’d prefer not to use the picks at the top, you could tie a bow up there instead, leave it empty or I have seen small angels, etc.  If you use floral picks, poke them in vertically or you’ll need to cut the ends off so they don’t stick out on the other side.

I had a cloth ribbon running through it like garland but thought it was distracting so I removed it.  However, I do think this King of Christmas 3-foot tree is so charming that it would have been fine left alone with no ornaments at all.

You had me at CORDLESS!!! What a lovely tree. I love the brown paper package. I’m still holding out on the Christmas decor fully believing that an elf dies if it happens before Thanksgiving. LOL!

What?! An elf dies if you decorate before Christmas?! I’ve never heard that. To late for me though. If Santa comes a knockin’, I’m blaming King of Christmas! :0 Happy Thanksgiving Laura!

Thank you Patricia! Yes, the poinsettias are made of felt! Found them at Hobby Lobby. Couldn’t find them online but maybe you could find some in store? I bought all I could find at ours. Happy Thanksgiving!

Such a cute little tree!!! I love the way you decorated it! I love the fact that it comes undecorated and you can do whatever you want with it. Now you’ve got me in the Christmas spirit!!!

I love your 3-foot tree, Cindy! It looks absolutely perfect in the spot you put it. I’m so interested in King of Christmas, since I’ve seen very lovely trees and garlands from them this year. I’m a big fan of Hobby Lobby picks to decorate a tree, too. Always love your sense of humor, my friend!

Thanks! You won’t be disappointed with anything from King of Christmas Crissy. LOL, say that fast three times. 😂. And I’m sure that cute little tree will be in a new place next week. 😉

Cindy, love the size of a shorter tree for decorating small area. And battery-operated, remote control is the only way to go. The using a paper boat to cover the urn is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Carol! The smaller trees can go in so many places. I really like them. Call me lazy but the fact it turns itself on and off is awesome!

Congratulations, Cindy!!! I’m glad they sponsored you. 🙂 Terrie had her post up so I took advantage of her link and found a beautiful King of Christmas wreath I liked and it’ll be up and decorated soon. Love how your little trees turned out and HOW CUTE are those little felt poinsettias??! Very pretty!!!

Enjoy your trees! We have regular old Wal-mart/box store 3’ers we’ve had for the kids’ bedrooms and around the house for years, and now I have a 4′ white one I love using.

    Happy decorating hugs,
    Barb 🙂

Thanks Barbara! I was wondering where I’d keep the other tree. The guest bedroom seems like a great choice! Enjoy your King of Christmas wreath!

Those are cute! I could use some smaller trees that have lights on them. You can never have too many trees in my opinion (which is not my husband’s opinion, btw)!

    • November 13, 2019 / 9:50 am

I get you Pam! My hubs is the same way. He doesn’t even think we need to put up a big tree! Ugh, men. But, he does love these little trees! I can deal with them all by myself and he doesn’t have to lift a finger! 😂

Who doesn’t love battery light small trees, especially with a timer? I have a few that are almost 15 years old.

Using the vag for the base is a great idea. Snipping the top edges makes it look extra special. Creating the topper is pretty.

Thank you Cindy. I never about having these little trees for years but now I’m extra excited!

  9. November 13, 2019 / 8:56 am

Cindy, you made decorating your tree look easy. Those smaller trees are so hard to decorate. Love the simple decorations you added, it made it look so elegant.

    • November 13, 2019 / 9:45 am

Wow Terrie, Thanks! No one has ever put me in the same category as elegant before! Woo hoo, I’m moving’ on up! 😉

Several years ago I decorated my tree with the branch type picks on the tree. I heard my Dad talking to someone about the tree & that it was pretty but he had NO idea what that stuff at the top was!!! 🙂 I loved it.
I started using a smaller tree so I could put it up high enough to protect it from a puppy. Now I’m retired I still use the small tree because it’s easier for me to handle.
Love Christmas decor but it’s not time for me yet. After Thanksgiving. (My shopping is almost done though!)

    • November 13, 2019 / 1:50 pm

I love stories like that Jeannie! What a fun memory. And I’m jealous that your shopping is almost done! Wowza – that’s fantastic! We have a large fake tree that I hate. We have used it for years and years and I’m over it. EVERY branch has to be connected. It’s definitely not like the new ones where the it’s only a few sections to put together. Love the new designs! Thanks for commenting! It makes my day.

Very festive AND farmhouse! Also, ahead of schedule. Your family must be so much fun. You decorate early and your mom leaves her decorations up until Valentine’s Day (or so I’ve been told). 😉

    • November 13, 2019 / 6:06 pm

I’ve also seen the Christmas decorations up until Easter, so there’s that. As for decorating early, my family is fun and I heard from our neighbor that read an article saying people who decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving are happier people. I must be a happier people! Happy Thanksgiving Mommy Dearest

Thank you Kristi. They are made of felt and they came from Hobby Lobby. Glad you visited today. 😄

    • November 14, 2019 / 7:01 pm

Thank you Clearissa. I use paper bags all the time to cover up bases and vases. It’s cheap and I have a pantry full from long ago when the kids took their lunches to school everyday. And I’m not about to throw them away! 😉

    • November 17, 2019 / 8:14 pm

Wouldn’t it be nice to have all lamps, TV’s, fans, etc. cordless?! I’d love it! Thanks for the visit Laura.

That tree is a cutie. Love the timer bit! I finally got a bit of Christmas up today as I put Thanxgiving away! I have been wrapping a bit almost every day and hope to not be CRAZY at the last minute like I can be! Need to get some stuff out of storage next!

    • December 3, 2019 / 7:38 pm

Thank you Kathy. One would think I’d be more organized since all our grown kids want now is money but I’ve been known to be crazy on Christmas Eve frantic I won’t get it all done. :/ Hope you get it all finished and can enjoy the season. Merry Christmas!
