Hey Y’all! Today is Pinterest Challenge Day and we are sharing our ideas for spring baskets! Do you have a basket of any kind? Want some suggestions for what to do with it? Maybe you need ideas for a centerpiece, a gift or just an accent piece for your home. Well you stopped by the right place. I’m going to share an all-in-one spring centerpiece and the perfect vintage loving gift using a basket I got for one little ol’ dollar.
An all-in-one spring centerpiece and the perfect vintage loving gift!
If you’ve hopped over from Everyday Edits, I’m so excited you’re here. If you’re new to my blog, click on the About Me Page so we can be friends. Did you enjoy how Laura used a basket tray for her table vignette? We could all use a nice basket tray. They work in so many places.
Le Cultivateur
Let’s get to the good stuff. Have you ever had a small birthday celebration, a luncheon to honor a friend or just gathering with good friends and used your table centerpiece as a gift? I have and everyone always loves the idea. It kinda makes the special guest feel extra special. This time I’ve added a take-home gift for the other guests as well. Nothing fancy. Just a little something to show them I care.
This month our Pinterest Challenge inspiration photo comes from Emily at Le Cultivateur. She is one of the sweetest people I know and if you don’t follow her on social media, it’s a must do! She’s so talented and her home is lovely with a romantic farmhouse vibe to it. Here’s what I notice and will incorporate from her photo.
A basket
Potted flowers
Candles
A riser under her basket
An all-in-one gift basket and centerpiece idea!
This gift basket/centerpiece cost less than $40 and I bet you could make it for less. It all started with finding four different vintage plates. Because each plate has pink flowers on them, they coordinate well together which means they’ll look lovely on any table. Plus I love the casual elegance of mismatched plates.
Emily’s basket is full of pretty potted plants. I decided to buy each guest their own plant to spread the love. To keep the cost down (okay and the labor) I placed the flowers inside a white lunch sack. You could surround the pots with wrapping paper, scrap fabric and ribbon but I like cheap lunch sacks. π
Give each guest their own potted plant from the centerpiece.
Another reason I like using take home gifts in a centerpiece is that it removes the awkwardness of where to place the gift when you sit down. Sometimes the small gift is on top of my place setting so I’m always looking around the table for a place to move it. I can’t put it next to the bread plate. Hello, no one comes between me and my bread. I can’t put it above my plate. There’s usually a dessert spoon or fork there. I can’t place it to the top right, that’s where my tea glass sits. It’s kinda like the napkin rings which is why I rarely use those either. So many dilemmas.
Vintage Napkins look so pretty with the plates.
Candles round off the gift basket centerpiece. Emily places her candles around her table but I’m choosing to place them inside the basket. That way she can use them in her own centerpiece with the plates and napkins. I’ve often used a stack of candles all together in one jar, vase or bucket. It’s casual and different and you know I like different. So I’m giving her a vintage jar as well to hold her candles together.
So, did you like the all-in-one spring centerpiece and the perfect vintage loving gift idea?! I know if I were invited to a luncheon and saw spring flowers and vintage plates, I’d be in heaven! Side note: If you decide to make one of these and need a friend to give it too, my birthday is in September. Just sayin’. Another side note: I chose plants to use in full sun because I feel most people have more sun than shade. Using herbs or indoor plants work well too.
Now it’s time to see how Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse was inspired with Emily’s photo. I know you’re going to love it! Then don’t forget to click on all the photos below to see what they came up with.

Yay Marlene, so glad you like it! I wish you could actually come and be a guest at my table. We’d have a very nice time. Happy Spring!
This is a brilliant idea! I never would have thought of this. All your dilemmas cracked me up; talk about first world pains, indeed! But, I don’t know if I could give away those pretty plates…
Author
Well the dilemmas are legit! No one should wonder where to put their napkin ring or take-home gift! π Glad you like it. I have a hint for you – when you purchase vintage plates that are already like the ones you have, it’s easier to give them away. And yes, I might have kept a couple. :0
Cindy, for our wedding, my brother Gene and his then fiancΓ©e Linnea gave us a picnic basket full of plates, candle holders, cups and silverware plus a handmade small tablecloth and matching napkins. This was their wedding gift to us and I just loved it to take along on picnics! Linnea had lined it, too, with more of the same blue calico fabric and that basket served our family for many years. Baskets are just THE BEST GIFT to give someone! Love your idea of putting in coordinating but mismatched dinner plates!!!
Have fun giving your centerpiece to your friend and the other potted plants to your other guests!
Hugs,
