Howdy Folks! Do y’all have a best friend that you think is the bestest of the bests? One you’ve known since high school and if she needed a kidney or any other body part, you’d gladly give it up? I do and really the only thing I think that’s wrong with her is that she thinks she’s a bad gift giver. She’s not! Just look at what she gave me the last time we got together. It’s a wreath making kit! Say whaaat?!
A Wreath Making Kit
We don’t get to see each other all that often. It’s not that we live that far from each other (about 45 minutes). But even as empty nesters, we lead busy lives. When we can get together we chat for hours and pick up right where we left off. If we had the time, we’d chat for days and not get bored.
Her and her hubby came to visit in Navasota a while back and she brought a gift. Could have been a late birthday gift, a hostess gift or a gift just because. She’s great like that – always thinking of others. When she handed it over, she said I hope you like it, I think you will. The first thing I pulled out was this super cool rusty piece of metal that I had no clue what it belonged to. I don’t think she did either.
Anyone know what it is? I love the patina, the scalloped edges and the extra little knobs on the outside that can be tightened. But the coolest part is that it’s used to make several seasonal wreaths. Inside the bag was also greenery for spring time, flowers, greens for Christmas time, cotton, a bird nest and ribbon. That’s so clever. I love it!
I had forgotten about it (sorry Patricia) until I was digging around while cleaning out the decor closet yesterday. It was like I was supposed to find it. I had been thinking about making a simple lemon wreath for summer time. When I emptied the gift bag I was so excited. I grabbed my hot glue gun and a couple of left over stems from another project and went to town. Look how it turned out. Simple, different than anyone else’s I’ve seen and easy peasy lemon squeezy!
I am already looking forward to making another one from this same beautiful thingamajig! What do you think? I think a wreath making kit makes the best gift. For crafters and non-crafters alike. Want to give such a gift? Here’s what you’ll want to collect.
Wreath Making Kit Supplies:
Wreath – Can be store bought or something unique and round found at a junk yard or flea market
Greenery – different seasonal stems (i.e. lambs ear, eucalyptus, boxwood, pine or juniper)
Seasonal picks – flowers, fruit, pumpkins or gourds and berries or pinecones
Ribbon – can be one neutral piece or several different colors
You’ll be the hit of the party!
Whoever receives such a gift will most likely think you are the bestest gift giver ever. Then it’s possible they might struggle and feel bad for not being able to top such a gift. That’s me – LOL! But totally not kidding. I could just give one of these kits to everyone I know and be done with it. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving. At least for an entire year or four seasons. For me, I’d tell them 4 years!
Just pinned and shared this fabulous idea, Cindy! Kits make everything so much easier and such a sweet and thoughtful surprise for you too. I can’t wait to make my own now, thank you! Hugs, CoCo

So true CoCo! Just like your donut kit! Whichever friend receives your kit will be ecstatic. I just know it! Thanks for the pin and sharing on FB. So sweet of you. ❤️
Love the idea if receiving such a nice gift. Everything at your fingertips. Love what you created and it the only one out there.

Thank you Cindy. It’s definitely a one of a kind. I love repurposing and this will be used many times! 🙂
Love this idea! Can’t quite place what the metal form is either. It looks familiar in a Midwest memory.

Thank you Laura. I might never know what the ring was used for but I still love its rusty goodness. 🙂
So cute! What a great gift idea!

I know, right?! I’m legit going to make one for sure.
I believe your round ring is a piece from an old lamp where the globe could be tightened by the small screws. Fun way to give purpose and restore it in a new way. So cute!

Oh my golly Betty, I can totally see that! It would have been a large globe and must have been beautiful. The extra scallops around the rim give it such fun detail. Thank you so much for the info!
That thing in your gift bag is a piece to an antique library lamp. It goes around the bottom of the glass shade. It’s a hanging oil lamp.

Chris, you are the best! I love knowing that! Since reading your comment, I just spent the last 30 minutes googling and looking at antique hanging oil lamps and there were so many gorgeous photos. I’ve never noticed the details before but will next time I see one in an antique store. I just couldn’t picture such a large lamp since the ring measures about 16″. I love my wreath even more now! Thank you Chris!
Wonderful gift you have been blessed with and i do love the lemon wreath, so cute.Pinned it, have a great weekend.

Double thanks Marlene. She’s a wonderful friend. Enjoy your weekend!
That is SO PRETTY! I love the patina on the metal piece!
Happy day!

Thanks KariAnne, me too. I found out it’s a piece from an antique hanging oil lamp. So fun.
How thoughtful of your friend Patricia! Can I get on her gift-giving list? None of my friends would ever do that for me. I like the wreathe you made; very summery! On my favorites list for our annual secret pals at church, I always put “No potholders.” Life is too short for too many potholders and cheap dish towels. I’d get excited about a bag of supplies! My hoard of craft supplies is so bad that even with C19, I have not made a dent and am having lots of fun rediscovering treasures in my stash! My idea of a good gift is a gift card to Michael’s or Joann’s!!

😂. I’d rather have a gift card to HomeGoods or Pottery Barn or get dish towels over a bag of craft supplies! 🤣 But I love the wreath making kit! I’m already looking forward to making the next one. I’ll ask Patricia if she’s taking on any new friends. 😂. Have a great weekend!
Cindy, I love this idea, and the wreath turned out so beautiful. The metal ring is lovely… not sure what it is either!

Thank you Julie. I found out from Chris, in a nice comment, that it’s a piece from an antique hanging oil lamp. I looked them up and found one like the one I have. 👏👏
