Today, my friends and I have joined together for a Pinterest Challenge with a Valentine’s Day theme. If you are new to these challenges, the idea is that we all have one inspiration photo, and we recreate that idea into something that works for our decorating style. I had a terrible time with this one. I knew about it for weeks and it took that long to develop something I liked.
Before I share my masterpiece (LOL), I want to welcome you. If you’ve hopped over from French Ethereal, yay, and thank you for joining me. If you’d like to become friends, click on the About Me page and subscribe.
A Simple Valentine’s Day Decorated Frame
Inspirational photo from Dorenes Crafts and Design
In a Pinterest Challenge, each blogger begins with the same inspiration photo. This month the photo is by Dorenes Crafts. She doesn’t blog but you can see some her work by clicking on her Facebook Page.
To get started, here’s what I notice about Dorenes Valentine idea:
- White frame
- 3 different hearts
- Ribbons and bows galore
Collage of the very easy steps.
I’ve always had a lack of creativity when it comes to crafts. One of my earliest memories was a Valentine’s party in elementary school. The girls had frilly, colorful, well decorated boxes and mine could have been mixed in with the boys. No frills, no fanciness, no creativity. Just a couple of hearts cut out of red construction paper glued to a shoebox. It didn’t bother me back then and it doesn’t bother me now. The candy bracelets and wax lips inside the box were way more important. ๐
Now that I’m grown, I care more about simplicity and time commitments. If a craft is going to take more than 30 minutes, forget it. Thankfully, this one took all of 10 minutes!
Layering velvet ribbon is always beautiful.
As you can see, it’s not difficult. All that’s is needed is to decide on 3 hearts, choose ribbons and add everything to the frame. ๐ I tied the large velvet ribbon first around the frame. Then used twine to attach the 3 hearts to the bottom of the already tied bow. I staggered the lengths so they weren’t on top of each other. Everything is eyeballed and nothing is measured. After all the hearts were hung, I tied the remaining ribbons together to create one large bow. And voila – a simple Valentine’s day decorated frame.
I set it up on an antique chest in the guest bedroom.
If you’d like the DIY for the wreath/heart with buttons, click here. It’s another super easy craft and an older Pinterest Challenge as well. The darker vine heart and small beaded heart are from Hobby Lobby at 40% off. The ribbons are from Hobby Lobby too and come in all sorts of sizes and widths.
My frame is 24″ x 24″ but I think this project would look nice in an 8′ x 12″ frame. Or if you have a large boxwood or grapevine wreath, you can recreate the same look with one of those. That would be super cute!
I hope you found some inspiration and try an easy Valentine DIY for grins.
If you’re going in order, next up is my friend Cindy at DIY Beautify. That girl is a crafting queen so I know you’ll love her handmade book page Valentine idea.
When you’re finished there, come back and click on the links below to see how the others turned the inspiration photo into something that worked for them!

Your spin on the inspo is very clever Cindy! I love the frame, the ribbons and the hearts. Plus if you want to create something new next year everything is reusable! Pinning!

I’ll take “clever”! Thank you Michelle. I’ve used that frame for lots of stuff and for many years. They must be vintage by now. LOL
Cindy, you don’t give yourself enough credit girlfriend! The simplicity of your project is amazing. I love the soft velvet bows, haven’t seen that raspberry color at my HL before so of course I need to track it down lol! Love the trio of hearts, how each is unique and work together so beautifully! Pinned xx

Thank you Marlene. You always make me smile. Hope you’re staying cozy and warm.
Cindy, I love the dangling hearts!!! All the ribbons are really pretty… After I made my frame, I found some beautiful red to dark pink ombre wired ribbon which I could have used in this project. ๐ I love that you repurposed your hearts. Enjoy your beautified frame!
Valentine hugs,

Things seem to go that way for me too. Thankfully, there’s always another project! Thanks so much Barbara. Have a wonderful V-Day
There are some very cute Valentine ideas. I did prefer it, however, when you used to do bigger decor vignettes and there were more participants then. Any plans to return to that type of challenge?

It’s comical that you said that. I’ve gotten a few people saying the opposite. That they miss the old, original way and wish we’d go back to that. This post was the original way. ๐ However, we will continue to do both and the group hasn’t changed. Life happens and family comes first. Some months we have all of us and others it’s slim pickins.
Next month is a spring mantel or shelf so that will be a larger vignette style post. Thank you for being a reader and please continue to let us know what you’d like to see!
