I’m resharing this post again from 2020. Doesn’t that seem like ages ago? I have been thinking about our trip to Montana and how I wish I were there. So, just in case you want a fun way to remember a special trip, check it out. It’s a quick and super easy rustic Christmas jar – again. 😉
It’s that time of year for me. Time to start thinking and decorating for Christmas. If you just rolled your eyes or exhaled a little sigh because you think it’s too early, I get it. Before blogging, I never decorated our Christmas tree until the day after Thanksgiving but starting before November isn’t that bad. It puts me in a more giving and forgiving mood. 😉 Another thing that puts me in a good mood is a Pinterest Challenge! Our challenge this month is decorating with a jar or cloche so let’s get started.
If you are here from The Ponds Farmhouse, thanks for hopping over and welcome! Rachel is so clever and this time is no exception. I love how she used multiple Ball jars!
A Quick and Super Easy Rustic Christmas Jar
Inspiration photo from Katrin at Northern Living
Our inspiration photo comes from Katrin at Northern Living. Isn’t that cute? Keeping decorations as simple as possible at Christmas time is going to be my motto this year. I say that almost every year but this time I really mean it! I want to get all the decorating done early so I can sit back and enjoy it. Rarely do I get to do that. I’m the one scrambling around on Christmas Eve looking for wrapping paper or headed to find a gift card at midnight. Not enjoyable, just sayin.
Wooden Ornaments found at Hobby Lobby
As you know with a Pinterest Challenge, we take the inspiration photo and turn it into something that works for us and our home decor. I was having a hard time deciding on a Christmas decor theme this year. But since our road trip and spending time in Montana I’ve decided on a woodsy theme for the house in Highland Village. So with this Pinterest Challenge, rustic and woodsy it is!
What I noticed about the inspiration photo
What I noticed about Katrin’s jar was that it had snow, small trees, buildings and fairy lights. As cute as it is, that will not work for our Montana Christmas theme. When I was in Hobby Lobby, I found the perfect and I mean perfect woodsy Montana looking ornaments.
They are made of wood and look like they were carved straight out of a Glacier National Park hiking guide book. I may have let out a little squeal inside the store. But that’s okay, with a mask on, no one can understand you anyway. Am I right?
Aaaaahhhhh- I love them!
There are actually three wooden ornaments in the jar held up by the lid clamping the twine to hold them in place. The ornaments are all different. One with a bear and a cub, another with a squirrel and acorns and another with a deer and fawn. Even the outlined trees are different.
Whoever designed these said to themselves, one day a girl will travel to her favorite state, want to live there but can’t so I’m making these just for her. And that girl is me. Thank you oh-wonderful-maker-of-woodsy-themed-ornaments. And thank you Hobby Lobby for offering them 50% off.
Hmmm, something’s amiss.
As I sat there looking at my worn out table that I got for $20 and still plan to redo, I realized that the table needed more. I didn’t think it looked very cozy (a.k.a. crowded) and was a little empty for my liking. If this happens to you, don’t be afraid to pile it on!
Just because it’s a table, you don’t have to have a place for a beverage or book. But when adding more, don’t forget about your theme. I chose to add the little quilted tree with buttons that I made a few weeks ago. You can see the DIY here if you’d like to see others and how easy they are.
And even though it doesn’t scream rustic, I’m sure an eclectic/somewhat vintage/rustic woodsy Christmas theme is a thing. It must be. Hello, just look at the table now! I play around with a table vignette until it’s just right for me. Sometimes it’s switching out lamps, moving one tree from the left to the right, adding a candle or not. It might take me a while to get it right but it works out eventually.
Just look at the detail in those ornaments!
Since I haven’t gotten out much of the Christmas decor, this entire area might change. Okay, I already know it will. What can I say, I’m weird. One thing’s for sure, each time I pass this jar, no matter where it ends up, it will take me back to Montana and I’ll get a happy feeling all over. I can already tell, this is the start of a fantabulous Christmas season.
Now it’s time to see how Yvonne at StoneGable interpreted the Christmas jar Pinterest Challenge. And don’t forget to check out the others too. You will see some fun and fantastic ideas!
I love these cute trees you used Cindy.
Great job.

Thank you Rachel. I bet they become a favorite ornament for years. 🙂
I love what you created and it is super special since it was inspired by your fall trip. I’m so wanting to visit Montana! The ornaments that you found at Hobby Lobby are perfect for your rustic Christmas jar and I hope that each time you look at your jar, you’ll have fond memories of the great time you and your husband had on your trip.

Maybe I’m growing a sentimental bone Paula. Mmm, probably not but I know I’ll have fond memories of our Montana trip each time I see them. Thank you
Got to love Hobby Lobby! I love these tree cutouts and the natural look. It’s perfect with the chair!
Author
I think so too. Even though I think the chairs are more summer patio chairs, I like the color. Thanks so much Christy.
HI Cindy,
I love the glass jar and lid. I never thought to use one of mine!
Love the wood tree finds at HL! Great addition.
Where did you find the chair in the corner? I remember this summer you were mixing up the room, but I love the shape and size! laura in colorado ps thanks for hosting !
Author
I have two of those chairs and sadly they came from Pier 1 so we can’t get more. But they are very versatile. They’ve been used on the patio, in the family room, in our bedroom, in the dining room, on the landing, and now in the entry. Wow, now that I type that out, they’ve been everywhere! 😉
Sure a great Idea! I’ll have to grab some of those ornaments at Hobby lobby! Thanks for the idea 🙂 Also, I’ve been looking for large glass jars like that for my sugar, flour, etc. Where did you grab yours? Thanks!
Author
I grabbed it from the sugar. Just kidding. I have several in the kitchen but that one was my hubbies whole peanuts. He had practically emptied it anyway. I get them at Home Goods. Thank you Kori.
Cindy, I love that you used your recent trip as inspiration for the PC Christmas in a jar vignette. The wooden trees are perfect. I loved this easy challenge so thank you again for hostessIng.

Thank you Carol. I will treasure those new ornaments for years to come. Glad you liked the challenge this month too. I’m all about the easy! Plus it was a lot of fun to do. I’d never done anything like that before.
Are we allowed to say “It’s better than the inspiration!” Because I just did. This looks fabulous. I too am having a rustic Christmas theme this year. When I am ready to decorate I will be stealing your idea fo sho! Thank you for hosting!
Author
LOL Laura! I guess you can say it’s better than the inspiration – ha! I do love how it turned out and am excited to start doing the entire house with Montana memories. Just waiting on the Mister to bring home cuttings from the trees in Navasota. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your rustic Christmas theme too!
Cindy, you always have such a fun writing style! I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts! Your Montana-inspired glass jar was perfect for the challenge and making it your own! I’m so glad that ornament-creator was thinking of you (wink). The way you coordinated with other DIYs and decor is fabulous too. I’m so glad I’m not the only one wrapping presents at the last minute. Not this year, though! Thanks for hosting, as always!
Author
Thank you Crissy. You made me smile. I swear I say every single year that I will NOT be wrapping gifts at the last minute but dang it, I never seem to reach that goal. Such as life. Enjoy your Christmas decorating!
Oh I love your trees and how fun that your idea was inspired by a fun vacation. The trees are perfect with your snow and for Montana. Thanks so much for hosting.
Author
Thank you Marty. I appreciate that. I hope my family loves the idea of a rustic Montana Christmas this year too but oh well if they don’t. It’s coming! LOL.

Thank you Pam. I am just now getting to see all the posts but so far, they are magnificent! I’m surrounded by creative people. 🙂
Great idea to use fond memories of a vacation for a glass jar vignette, Cindy! I love the rustic vibe of the whole scene, especially right next to your wicker chair; so cozy! Thanks so much for hosting us all! So fun to see Christmas ideas:)

My pleasure Lora. I am looking forward to creating a Montana type Christmas around here this year. Maybe then the hubs will buy me a house in Montana! What do you think the odds are for that?! :0
Wow those ornaments are so pretty. I’m not sure they would show up as well on a tree, but they’re perfectly highlighted in the jar. Challenge well met!! Your quilted tree is so darling. If I have time I would love to make a few for my daughter. I’m going to pop over and pin that post as well. As always thank you so much for hosting Cindy!
Author
I thought the same thing about the ornaments hanging on a tree Michelle. Hope you get to make some of those fabric trees as well. I know your daughter would love them. I plan to make more and think that’s what I’m going to put on one of the mantels this year – a forest full of fabric trees!
Such a lovely rustic Christmas jar, and SO easy! I love that! Easy and packs a woodsy-themed-punch! Thanks for hosting, Cindy! Always enjoy the PC’s!

Author
Thanks bunches. I’m loving it too. Are you saying you are going to actually decorate this year for Christmas? Guess we better get to making a wreath for your door!
I absolutely love this! I want to go right back to hobby lobby and find those tree ornaments. I’m flying back from Montana right now and can tell you, this is the perfect addition to a Montana Christmas!
Author
Whaaaaat?! You were in Montana?! I’m so jealous. Thank you for validating my choice in ornaments. I love love love them!
Very pretty glass container decorations. Love the natural look. Your corner looks so cozy. Thanks for hosting this fun challenge!
Author
Thank you Terrie. The corner will probably change but I will keep the jar for sure. Hope you have a great week.
I love your jar and it is perfect for my Christmas cause, i always have a table full of Christmas trees. It’s easy and so pretty, thanks Cindy. Yesterday when we had our ice storm i noticed the pine trees limbs got heavy but never broke, there plenty of others crashing down around the neighborhood, i had no electric from 9-6,so i read.Have a wonderful day.

Thank you Marlene. Glad you’re okay. Our youngest (at OU) is having to stay somewhere else because she’s been out of power since Tuesday (insert rolling eyes). The house she rents is really old so thin windows, no fireplace, terrible insulation, etc. We don’t really have to deal with that here in TX because any ice or snow we get is usually gone by the next afternoon. Our limbs blow down during spring with the wind, hail and heavy rain storms. Stay safe!
I love what you did with the challenge Cindy! This is just so fun to see everyone’s projects every month! I just noticed we have the same Pier 1 clock!
Author
Say whaaat?! I have something that you with the cutest cottage ever has?! I’m so excited! I bet if you look closely, there’s something from Pier 1 in just about every photo around this house. I was really sad when it closed down. And I’m always glad to hear you like the Pinterest Challenges. They are so fun to do! Thank you Kim.
Cindy your rustic ornaments are perfect for your jar! I love the whole vignette. I actually think it is appropriate for November too, at least it would be in KY where we sometimes have snow for Thanksgiving!
I noticed that thrifted table right away, and I actually was going to comment about how much I love it as it is!
This hop was so fun and perfect for the “transitional” fall to Christmas time of year in blogland. Thank you so much for hosting and all the inspiration!

Yay, thanks Amber. That little table is so darling. You saw it when it was polished but the top is in pretty bad shape so I really need to do something to it. Finding the time is another story. I’m so glad you joined is. Not sure anyone could top the little girls but I love my cut-out trees. Wish they made giant ones like that! Have a great week.
Cindy, what beautiful wooden ornaments you found!!! I’ve seen some similar and they are cute how they are cut outs within the main ornament ~ really woodsy and Christmas-y! Your cloche turned out really sweet… Enjoy decorating for Christmas!!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂

Author
Thanks CoCo. I’m still trying to figure out my woodsy Montana Christmas theme but this was a good start. I need to dig out what I already have first so I don’t go crazy spending money!
The ornaments are very pretty. Kind of remind me of Gingerbread cookies, hehe.
Author
I thought the same thing! LOL. But they would be to pretty to eat. Thanks for the visit. Hope you have a great weekend.
