It’s time for the Pinterest Challenge and we are all about patriotism today. And I’m sharing a quick and easy patriotic table for 2 on the patio. From June through September, our home is usually decorated with red, white, and blue but I’ve been in a green mood lately so I decided to use more blue than red this year. There are 15 bloggers this time so with a lot to see let’s get started.
Did you hop over from Cottage in the Mitten? Welcome! Wasn’t Kim’s porch festive? I hope you find a lot of inspiration today. And if you like what you see, subscribe so we can be friends. You can always check the About Me page too. My hair is different but I’m still the same woman with an ever-evolving design style. Join me and we’ll decorate our homes and transform them into a place we never want to leave.
A Quick And Easy Patriotic Table For 2 On The Patio
If this is your first time seeing a Pinterest Challenge you are in for a treat. My friends and I take the same photo found on Pinterest and challenge ourselves to create something that works for us and our decorating style. Some of the challenges are hard but it’s always a lot of fun.
Source – Worthing Court
Our inspiration photo this month comes from Susy at Worthing Court. Here’s what I see that I’ll incorporate into my seating area too.
- An outdoor setting
- 2 wicker chairs with cushions
- A blue Chest in between the chairs
- Flags
- Hanging basket with greenery
- A patriotic garland
- A white lantern
- Red flowers
I don’t have everything Susy is using so I’ll shop my home, grab what I can and hopefully not purchase a thing!
You’ve seen our front porchette plenty of times so we’re decorating the back patio instead. Honestly, it’s so hot the more shade the better and if we are outdoors it’s only for a short time. That’s why this is a quick and easy set-up. It’s plum unappetizing to see the person across from you sweating while they eat. Bleh.
Don’t have a blue chest? Use blue scrap fabric and cut out a tablecloth instead
You can see I didn’t have a blue chest to put in between the two wicker chairs. But I did have a scrap piece of fabric that is much more my cottagecore/grand-millennial decorating style these days.
Next from the list are the flags and the hanging basket with greenery. I have both of those. All I had to do was clean the window with alcohol and use a command hook to hang the basket. It makes a great addition to the vibe.
Use scrap fabric then cut strips for a cute patriotic garland
Since I didn’t have a chest to hang garland from, I hung it from the basket on the window. I didn’t realize I had so many scraps of fabric until it was time to make the garland. This was probably the first time I was glad I hadn’t thrown something away.
Mixing vintage plates with new ones is a great look
The Mister won’t enjoy the plates, bowl or vintage tea glasses as much as I do but you can’t have a patriotic table without pretty dishes. Plus if I go with plastic or paper out there the wind would have taken them to Mexico.
He will however appreciate the informal platter of napkins and flatware. If I can get him to use the red cloth napkins, I will have accomplished a miracle. He thinks he stains everything. He doesn’t. Mostly because he won’t use the cloth napkins. :/
Keep it casual by stacking flatware on a platter with the napkins
As much as he likes patriotic decor, this will all be to frou-frou for him but he’ll smile and appease me which is nice. As long as I don’t serve crackers with hummus and chicken salad (my fave), he’ll be fine. Especially once I pull out the dessert.
Handmade pot/vase for faux flowers
Sorry, back to the the inspiration photo. Susy had some red flowers over to the side but for it to work with my table, the faux red flowers are used as a centerpiece.
Can you see how using a photo found on Pinterest is changeable and how it turned into a quick and easy patriotic table for 2 on the patio? I’m sure no matter how hot it is outside we will enjoy the table. The only thing on the menu might be ice cream but we will feel so schmancy while eating it.
Next up is my friend Cindy from DIY Beautify. You will love her style and creativity! To check out the others, just click on the photos below. Enjoy!
Cindy,
I love how you went bold mixing the colors and patterns. It is perfect! I have those same bowls and we use them daily for yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, ice cream….you name it. I also have some red and white transferware that I forgot about. Thanks so much for the inspiration. This is just so beautiful!
Author
Bold or crazy?! LOL. I love love those bowls too and I’m happy you found some inspo. Thank you Christy.
Cindy, I love what you’ve done with your patio! The blue hydrangea tablecloth is really pretty and gives just the right blue plus the navy for 4th of July. Ice cream on the patio sounds heavenly in this muggy weather! ๐ Love the basket, too! (I forget about Command Strips.)
Happy Pinterest Day and Happy 4th!!!!
Hugs,
Barb ๐

Thanks so much Barbara. I thought it would suffice for the blue chest and it definitely stands out! Happy summer friend.
Cindy, you are too funny. You know I appreciate the challenges of setting up a venue and shooting in the bright light. I love your fabric banner. My motto is never throw away fabric scraps! The blue dishes are very pretty. Iโm jealous. Thanks again for being such a great hostess!

Purge is one of my favorite past times so not throwing something away is veeeerrryy difficult for me. The only room I stay out of is the Misters office. I can’t even stand going in there. It’s like a garage sale after a tornado went through. Ayi yi yi. Thank you Carol.
Cindy,
Your table for two is adorable. I love the hydrangea tablecloth with the vintage dishes. By mixing old and new they all look vintage. Thanks for hosting each month.

Thanks so much Rachel. I will be finding reasons to use that tablecloth as much as possible. I should hem it but cutting all the edges with very dull pinking shears aggravated me so it will have to wait. Thankfully my family and friends know that my motto is “good enough”. So there’s no pressure. lol.
Super cute, Cindy!! LOVE that hydrangea fabric and that you shopped your house!!
Author
Heck yeah man! Shopping the house always comes first. Occasionally though I’m ready for something new. Thank you Rachel.
Love that gorgeous blue hydrangea fabric you upcycled for a tablecloth and that adorable basket with rwb fabric strips!
Author
At first I thought flags and giant hydrangeas might be a bit much when put together so I had to keep it to a minimum. ๐ And making that little banner/garland strip thing was a chore. I wish I had the same enthusiasm as real crafters. Thank you bunches Debra.
I would love to have pretty dishes just like yours Cindy! What an adorable setting you have created, and I love the mini garland idea too!

I am a dish-a-holic and using this set is probably my favorite so thank you Michelle. Hope you have a wonderful summer. Stay cool girlfriend!
Yeah, spending time on the porch is this heat would be not fun. I love your cute display and cloth napkins at my house are spotted from grandkids eating but, I can fold them and no one even notices. Stay cool!!
Author
But grandkid spots are the best spots. Not that I have any but maybe one day. ๐ Thank you Marlene. You stay cool up there!
Adorable! I love that area., and I need one of those baskets. The space looks cool even if it isn’t. As long as there’s a breeze and shade, I’d be good.. It’s too freakin’ hot here. and the heat makes me grumpy. My plants better reward me by not dying with the astronomical water bill I know I’m about to have. I have shade on our patio at 5 o’clock – how appropriate.
Author
Well cheers to 5 o’clock! LOL.
Thankfully we get lots of shade in the front yard because of all the trees but it’s still hotter than hades out there. Today the heat advisory that came up on my phone said feels like 105 in the shade. And with 74% humidity, I’m crawling in a hole. :/ Feel for you with the water bill. I’m sure the city is about to tell us Stage 1 is now in place. Ugh. Thanks Rita for making me smile. Stay cool!
I love it. What a great idea to set a small table on the porch. Love that tablecloth, it is amazing. Thanks so much for hosting this fun hop.
Author
Thanks Marty. The tablecloth was made from a scrap piece of fabric. Well, if you call no hem and a raw edge “made”, then I great. ๐
How cute is that scrap fabric garland on the basket? Love that sweet touch. Sorry you’re sweating; I was too, when I set my porch up. But when it cools down, it’s such a fun place to hang. Love the mix and match dishes. Am doing a similar tablescape for Thursday; yep, playing with my dishes tomorrow:) Great group this month!

I bet it’s fabulous out there when it cools down. We will not cool down until September. Today the heat advisory said 105 in the shade “but feels hotter” because of the humidity level. It will only get hotter from here.
Have fun playing with your dishes! I love doing that!

What a perfect little shady oasis! The bright and bold tablecloth is so pretty but I’m smitten with the little scrap fabric strips you added to your basket! Everything looks incredible Cindy, I hope you and the Mister were able to enjoy it, even if it was only ice cream ๐ Pinned!
Author
Thank you. It will be nice out there come autumn but not a minute before. I can feel myself becoming less tolerable of the heat. But I refuse to be crotchety! Maybe we need a pool?
Aww Cindy, your back porch looks SO inviting! I love the mini garland you made for the basket. But I’m with you I don’t want to look across my chicken and see someone sweating profusely. LOL Thank you so much for hosting!
Author
That is just nasty, right? Thank you Laura. Let’s both stay inside for the next 2-1/2 months. LOL
What a delightful dining area you have created! I love that we both used my favorite blue and red transfer ware.

Hello, my name is Cindy and I’m a dish-o-holic. For real! Can’t get enough. Thanks Diane. Happy summer.
Cindy I left a big long comment Tuesday but it didn’t show up! I love your dishes of course! Chicken salad and hummus and vintage dishes? I’m in!
Your table setting looks so pretty and I love the little garland.
Thank you so much for hosting this challenge. Have a great Fourth of July!

No worries Amber, thank you for coming back and commenting again! You made my day.
Everything looks so good, Cindy! You know I love that transferware. I love the rag garland you made. The perfect touch for your basket! Have the best 4th!
