We are getting closer to Christmas friends! Are you ready? I’m sorta kinda ready but not really. I keep telling myself I have plenty of time. Ha! For those who haven’t purchased or put up your tree yet, I have several trees on the blog today. A total of 38 to be exact! Thank you Joanne from Our Crafty Mom for hosting and pulling this together. Since there’s so much to see, let’s get to it. Here’s our peppermint striped Christmas tree!
A Peppermint Striped Christmas Tree
Last year, I didn’t particularly like our tree. It took two days to finish with maximum effort and it was just meh. Little made me smile as I walked by. I actually called it the Christmas Tree Without Charisma. And that just ain’t right! It’s Christmas time; a time to celebrate our Lord’s coming! Anyway, so that wouldn’t happen again, I decided I wasn’t making any new purchases and was only going to use the ornaments that were red, white or silver. This is my first time to try a theme.
My Steps To Decorating Our Tree
The peppermint striped ribbon is the first thing I add. My favorite ribbon is made of cloth, not usually shiny and is definitely wired. It’s so much easier to tuck and shape when it’s wired. I cut the ribbon into 3 foot strips and tuck it in leaving large gaps in between each piece and randomly place them in a zigzag formation. I want it to be noticed but not overwhelm the look.
In addition to ribbon, I use floral picks which I add next. I love them. They add depth and texture. Mine are frosted cranberry stems as well as inexpensive cranberry candle rings that I opened up and straightened out. Some people do their picks last to fill in gaps but I do the opposite. Let your floral picks stick out a little further than the branches. I promise, it will look fantastic!
The ornaments are next. I don’t put on a ton. We’ve had more tree accidents than I want to count so I’m hesitant to fill it up although I think super full trees are beautiful. Each Christmas ornament that was pulled out made me smile. There isn’t a sentimental bone in my body so I haven’t collected them. Nor did I keep all the hand made ornaments the kids crafted over the years. I kept a few. I’m not that mother. We especially treasure the ones with their faces on them. Several have photos with no teeth, fat cheeks, freckles and crazy hair. But I am unable to add them anymore until they are repaired.
I use non-breakable ornaments!
After the last tree catastrophe, I learned my lesson – only buy plastic, cardboard, fabric or non-breakable ornaments. Even the ones that look like mercury glass are plastic. In other words, ain’t nobody got time for sweeping up glass while screaming at three dogs to come when all they want to do is sniff and check out what everyone is freaking out about. That is after the initial shock-n-run reaction from us all. No fun.
Finally, when each ornament has been added, I step back and look at it. If I see any holes, I fill in with small ornaments. Like the twirly candy cane ornaments or the small red bells.
That’s it. I’ve officially used a theme and decorated a peppermint striped Christmas tree. I love how it turned out and think it goes perfectly with our Small Space Hot Cocoa Bar!
If you are a new visitor, thanks for stopping by! I’m so glad you did. Now get comfy and check out all the other trees below. I’m sure you’ll find something you love or something you may want to try next year. ๐

Oh Cindy this is so pretty. You must be thrilled this year!! The ribbon makes it!
Author
Thank you Barbara! I am thrilled. We’ve kept the lights on now everyday, all day and the hubs hasn’t complained about it yet. Must be the cheaper LED lights. ๐
It’s BEAUTIFUL!!
Author
Thank you Patricia! You should come over and see it in real life. We could sit and chat over hot cocoa and pumpkins spice cake. You bring the cake. ๐
Oh isn’t this fabulous! True story, I have a flocked tree and I found some amazing red ticking stripe canvas ribbon and when I put it up to my tree to see if I wanted to use it I immediately thought, “This looks like Cindy’s style!” I loved the look but didn’t have enough ribbon.
Love your tree and cozy living room!
Author
Well that is some compliment Amber – I think. ๐ There have been many times I’ve seen ribbon, planned an entire tree around it and didn’t have enough. It’s a total bummer when you have to put all that stuff back on the shelves.
I only had enough ribbon this time because it’s on a much smaller tree. Glad you like it. Merry Christmas!
I love your peppermint striped tree! The ribbon is the hardest part for me and you aced putting yours on. Next year I must buy berry picks for my tree. Yours look so pretty and they really add beautiful color and texture against your flocked tree branches. The balls on our tree are breakable because they are relatively old and it’s such a pain to clean up after one gets knocked off of the tree by Sherman’s tail. I need to follow your lead and switch to nonbreakable ornanaments.

Thank you Paula! I learned the lesson of the broken ornaments three times. I know, I’m a slow learner. ๐ The unbreakable ornaments give you a false sense though because some of them seem fragile. You’ll love having picks in your tree. It makes the tree look sooooo different. Merry Christmas!
Stunning! I love your peppermint stripe Christmas tree. It looks so cozy – but yet reflects the beauty of a snow-covered tree outside your window. The ornaments are gorgeous and I love the sparkling houses! What a great tree.
Author
Thanks so much Barbara. I wish it were a snow covered day outside my window. That would be awesome! Hope you enjoy the wonderful Christmas season.
Beautiful as always. I love the peppermint tree theme. My tree never looks that beautiful, but it makes me smile when I look at it.
Author
All trees should make us smile or it just isn’t worth it. Thanks for the sweet comment and visit today! This was a weird Thanksgiving. Hope to see y’all at Christmas.
Oh, Cindy!
Your Peppermint striped tree is GORGEOUS! Love the festive reds this time of year, and the flocking helps it truly pop. LOVE!

Thanks Libbie! I have decided this tree will make another appearance in a few years. Enjoy your weekend.
Red and White just makes it feel Christmas! Love this theme.
Author
Thanks Trina. I feel the same way. ๐
What an original and pretty idea, red is not my favorite color but this is so pretty Cindy, it truly is.
Author
I remember you saying that once before about the color red so I consider that a huge compliment Marlene! Thanks so much. โค๏ธ
Beautiful tree Cindy. I found some 3 inch wide buffalo check ribbon that Iโve been thinking about using this year on the tree. Now that Iโve seen yours, I am definitely going to try it.
Author
I love buffalo check so I bet your tree will be beautiful. Thank you Carol and Iโm glad you found something inspiring!
So pretty! I finally retired my tall pre-lit tree last year since many of the lights had quit working and put up a 4 ft. tree I had purchased on sale after Christmas a few years back that I loved so much, twiggy branches with flocked greenery and red berries, prelit with white lights. I used mainly ornaments in red, green, white and other neutrals, and metallics. What I love about this tree is that it is sparse (more space between branches) and I was able to not only put ornaments on the outside of the tree, but inside as well, closer to the pole. It looked so magical! Since it was shorter, I put it on a round side table covered with a red tablecloth. Your tree reminds me of that one. I may have to add some ribbon this year!
Author
I wonder when weโll have to retire this tree. Hopefully not for a few more years. Trees are expensive! Yours sounds very pretty Vicki. Thanks for the visit.
Beautiful tree!!
Author
Thanks a bunch Carlie.
Cindy, I’m loving the peppermint theme and the way you spread out your ribbon! I love me some floral picks, too. They really add such a fun texture, don’t you think? What a genius idea to use candle rings and flatten them out. Never thought of doing that! Also, I’m shocked you don’t have glass ornaments on the tree because lots of them look like glass. I manage to break one every single year, and there’s never anyone else around to blame but myself.
Author
LOL. No more glass ornaments for us! Nope. Nada. Not going to happen. When i found the ornaments that look like glass, I didnโt believe the packaging. I had to open it up and tap them myself. ๐ฌ Glad you like it Crissy. Have a great week!
Wow your tree came out beautiful! I am in deep love with the flocked trees this year!
Author
Thank you Lia. When we were young my family always had fresh flocked trees at Christmas. Then for whatever reason, mom decided no more flocking. I miss those days so I think we’ll always use a fake flocked tree. Thanks for the visit! Merry Christmas
Cindy you tree is absolutely gorgeous. I love the red and white story. Your ribbon and floral picks really make the tree extra special. I to have had many tree mishaps and lost some really treasured ornaments so I totally understand using plastic, and you would never know that they are.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas.
Author
Thanks so much Sonya. I’m glad the plastic looks good. I wondered if people could tell. Merry Christmas to you as well.
Wow the cranberries are just gorgeous! I think your tree is one of my favorites in the blog hop! The peppermint stripe ribbon too is so so cute. You’ve inspired me for next year, thank you!

Awe, thank you Melissa. So sweet of you to say. Glad you were inspired today too.
The red against the frosted tree is gorgeous. You kept it simple, yet very elegant. I love floral picks too as it adds so much interest to a tree. Also, smart idea to use non-breakable ornaments as I’ve had many precious ornaments break throughout the years ๐
Author
Thank you Erlene. Not sure Iโll ever buy another breakable ornament again. ๐ค. As you know, itโs sad! Merry Christmas and glad you visited today. ๐
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!! Love your peppermint themed tree, Cindy! What a fun idea… Having fun touring Christmas trees as I work on the one in our front room. It’ll share this weekend, I think. ๐
Enjoying yours and happy Christmas season!
