Hello Friends! Earlier this summer we found an antique festival in downtown Montgomery so of course I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check it out. Montgomery, TX is about 30 minutes from Navasota and has a charming little town. I bought a few goodies and intended to show y’all but shortly after the festival we headed back home so I wasn’t able to show them off. Well, today is the day for one of those treasures.
A New Vintage Trunk and Coffee Table
The living room at the farmhouse has 3 doorways which are also heavily used walkways. Because of this, we’ve never really had a coffee table in front of the loveseat which is our only sofa. I’ve used a blue ottoman occasionally but that color is killing my vibe. And someone I know likes to put his feet up all the time so getting rid of it wasn’t an option.
Until now! I found an adorable old metal trunk to use as our new coffee table. No it won’t be as comfy for the Mister but it’s small so it won’t impede on the main thoroughfares. And hello, it’s old and so stinkin’ cute!
At the festival, the gentleman was asking $40 for it and at the time I thought, hmm, is that high? I didn’t know. It is kind of on the small side, someone had painted it from it’s original dark blue color, and it was quite tatty. Then I remembered I’d been looking for the perfect coffee table for 3 years. Suddenly, all of those previous issues had turned into character!
The man could have been asking $80 and I would have still purchased it. Just kidding, I’m smarter than I look. Now I have a new surface to style, extra storage and the Mister has a new questionable foot rest. I love it! I’ll probably paint it white one of these days. But for now, I’m good with the gray sides, deep blue scratches and grimy look.
What do you think of our new vintage trunk? Revision – Nancy just told me in the comments that my trunk is a foot locker! Her husband had one that sat at the end of his bed. I will treasure it even more now knowing it was a soldiers. Love my readers!
Do you like using stuff like that or do you prefer new store bought things? Have y’all found a treasure lately? Tell me what it is!

Speaking of vintage goodies and antique festivals… The fall show in Round Top, Texas and other small cities around the town is coming up soon! Check this calendar to see if you can make it. It’s my favorite antique show in Texas so I’ll be there!
Love love love!!! I prefer old over knew any day. What a find Cindy I know itโs hard to tell in pictures but the color looks perfect. We never have any of these great markets near us the best we have is antique centers where things are pretty expensive Iโm so jealous. I love your little farmhouse you should show more of it.

Thank you Barbara. One of these days you should come all the way down here for a visit and we could go junkin’ together! You’ll want to bring a trailer. And I will definitely show more of the farmhouse soon. You’ll probably wish you hadn’t said that. ๐
Round Top has to be fabulous. I would go crazy if there I’m sure. Hope you find great pieces when there.
I love the trunk it adds character. I don’t know if you checked my stories but I found amazing French style petite chairs on FB Marketplace. They’re so pretty.
The French armoire I’m finishing now I found at a store we frequent for $75. They needed the room for new pieces so got a great deal.
Enjoy
Cindy

No, I didn’t see your IG story Cindy. Wish I had. Sounds like you got a great deal! I forget to look on FB Marketplace. And a French armoire for $75? That sounds like a steal – Congrats!

Thanks so much Nancy for saying that. I try to blog twice a week but we had such a busy summer that other things took priority. But now that fall is almost here, you should see 2 emails in your inbox each week. Unless the Lord decides otherwise. ๐ Most of all though, thank you for telling me that my new vintage trunk is a foot locker! I will treasure it even more now knowing it was a soldiers! I’m so excited! I’ll revise the post. ๐
Cindy I love that trunk! It is so beautiful in your space….Early in our marriage we used an old HUGE trunk as a coffee table. We also used it at the end of our bed, as side table and even when we weren’t using it a lot I’d drag it out of a closet and put it by the Christmas tree, open it up put a Christmas quilt and presents in it. Today, I miss that old trunk. You just can’t go wrong with one…

Putting it next to the Christmas tree this year will be so adorable! Hope I remember that idea. We have another huge one that sits in our bedroom. We put our luggage on it when we arrive. One of these days I might drag it to the living room and use it as a side table. And I do mean drag. That thing is so heavy! :0
I was going to tell you also that it looks like my Dad’s trunk from the Army. He was in WWII and I have his foot locker – still the dark Army green. It is scratched up, also, and not completely level. I’ve thought about putting a piece of acrylic on top of it and using it, and I’ve also contemplated painting it, but couldn’t bring myself to paint over “Dad’s property.” We still have letters in it that his sister wrote him during the war, and other personal things that belonged to him. It’s a treasure.

Oh my goodness, that warms my heart to hear that. I’m not sure if I could paint over it either. Thank you so much for telling me. I am loving our new foot locker more and more by the minute!
It is a treasure and oh so pretty, i like it shabby. I do have one and treasure it, it was my fathers foot locker in WWII, so it means alot to me, it is black and the handle is a belt , guess it broke, i love every ugly inch of it. Have fun with yours.

I’d love it too Marlene! And I think your dads having a belt for a handle is even better – adds even more character. ๐
Well, I have my grandfather’s steamer trunk (NOT a footlocker!) It has it’s original interior, but my diy’er mother painted the outside yellow with black painted hinges, straps etc. Not a good look. I’m debating exactly what to do to it. I have done some ‘antiquing’, chalk painted, stained and other stuff to furniture. I would like to attempt to strip the paint and see if I could stain/refinish it but I’m not sure exactly what kind of wood is under that paint….plus I need to see about ordering some straps online maybe. It is huge and very heavy, but I would love to use it, as it has sentimental value to me, as it’s the only thing I have of my grandfather’s.

I would be intimidated to strip and refinish your grandfathers trunk for sure. But it’s wonderful that you even have it! Hope you can use it and enjoy it someday and that it looks just how you want it too. Thanks for the visit!
Cindy, I love the trunk/foot locker. The color is so farmhouse. Iโm sure you will love having it at the farmhouse. Iโve never heard of Montgomery. Would love to go to their antique festival. Are you going to Roundtop? I havenโt been in a couple of years and would love to go again. Road trip?

Thank you Carol. I do plan to go to Round Top but September is a busy month for me. It’s my birthday month so I’m popular. LOL! But I’d like to squeeze it in sometime. ๐
Yes that’s a foot locker and I wouldn’t change a thing about it, well until Christmas rolls around and you want everything snow white with vintage reds and greens! Great find and I’m glad you gave yourself a pep talk and didn’t leave it behind!

Tammy mentioned in the comments that she put her trunk next to the Christmas tree with gifts inside. I think that sounds like such a cute idea. My mind is already swirling with ideas. Macy (my middle child) was with me that day and she’s always the one telling me to buy it. LOL! Glad you visited today Sandi, thank you.
