Most of us are so ready when spring arrives and can hardly wait to start refreshing our homes. And today I’m part of a week-long tour of homes hosted by Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. To help with seasonal inspiration I’m sharing a lively spring home tour that could last through summer! If you’re new here, welcome. I have the pleasure of decorating our everyday home in the Dallas area and an almost 100 year old farmhouse on family land further south. It’s truly the best job!
And a labor of love. I’m sharing the entry, dining room and, family room of our everyday house. To make a change to summer will only take a tiny bit of tweaking. Seriously, a teeny bit!
If you’ve popped in from Bluesky at Home, I’m so glad you’re here. I love all the color Carol uses in her home. How can anyone be unhappy in there?!
A Lively Spring Home Tour That Could Last Through Summer!

Even though I find changing home decor for the seasons plum exhilarating, I understand not everyone is like me. We are similar in that we want our homes to be a cozy, inviting and a reflection of us but maybe a little easier and not always seasonal would be nice. Why else are you here? I get it!
Adding layers to highlight vintage pieces is fun.
So, let me explain why I’ve decided that this is The Year of the Topiary! I know, titling (is that how you spell that? It reads way different, yikes) what you do in your home sounds kooky but once you see the tour, you’ll understand. You might say – girl, that’s a lot or she’s two sandwiches short of a picnic. That’s fine. I’ve heard it before.
View from front door of dining room.
Nonconformist, outlandish, strange. That’s okay too unless you’re talking about Jesus. I’m all in with him. I drank that refreshing kool-aid and will never waiver or waver.
Not every surface will have a topiary but there are several different shades of green along with lots of greenery. Fake plants, real plants, faux flowers, real flowers; it’s all mixed in.
Since it’s almost Easter and my favorite color is pink, I added small amounts around the house. If you’d like to see the easy DIY to the chocolate bunny click here and the broken clock, click here. If pink isn’t your thing, stick with green or go with white, yellow, blue or red. All great summer colors.

Green is a neutral color and just by changing out throw pillows it will completely change the look. Usually, all the pillows on the sofa are white which goes with everything most months out of the year.
Since this is the year of the topiary, I’m taking a cue from the pink in the terracotta pots in the topiary painting. The painting was the inspiration piece this season.
By the way, if you’ve gone with a completely different color for years and want a change, start small and start with paint. The candlesticks with the giant boxwood balls were bright blue. Now they are green. I’m not crafty but painting something small is satisfying to me. Maybe it’s the money I know I’m saving?
The table in between the taupe checked chairs was red. I’m so glad it’s now white. I love white! Even switching out a lamp shade can make a big difference in the look of a room. And if I wanted to, I could spray paint the entire glass lamp base to be a solid color. Easy peasy and very inexpensive.
Slipcovers are an inexpensive way to make easy changes.
We had a gray slip cover over the chair when the kitchen was blue. Hopefully you can see how small changes can give a room a new look.
Vintage pots don’t have to have plants. This one is perfect for Easter candy (placed in a paper cup first for cleanliness).
If you prefer to be surrounded by a lot of Easter decor, go for it! I didn’t want to make a lot of changes during summer so I’m keeping the cuteness to a minimum for easy changes. Look in the cubby shelf. Adding a couple of flags here and there and maybe some red ribbon around the crock or candles and it’s transformed.
Baskets can be used as magazine holders too.
Same goes for this magazine basket. I could remove the wreath and add a couple of flags or keep the wreath and still add flags. And even moving the magazines around to keep the colors consistent with the look you want is so simple and adds a little detail most people won’t even notice. But you will.
Okay, that’s the lively spring home tour that could last through summer. And if you want a beautiful home without a lot of extra work, remember to keep it neutral and the holiday decor minimal. Unless you’re like me and look forward to making changes each month or don’t have a large summer-fun-bucket-list to accomplish.
Now on to the week-long tours! Make sure and come back to see Thursday and Friday’s tours. If you’re going in order, you’ll move on to Whispering Pines. Her Victorian home is always something to see. Enjoy the rest of the tour!

Thank you Carol. Can’t have Easter without some bunnies. I wonder what the Lord thinks of us using bunnies and crosses as an Easter theme? Just another one of those serious questions we’ll have to ask when we get to heaven. 😉
Your posts always give me a giggle first thing in the morning and I love that 🙂 I’m all for easy decor that can be used throughout the seasons and you’ve done such a great job of that! It all looks fabulous, Cindy!

The pink and green reminds me of a pair of plaid shorts I wore ALL the time back in high school. I bet my friends were sick of ’em and surprised I didn’t wear a hole in the butt. Love pink and green! Thanks so much Linda.

I mentioned to my kids one day that I have come to really like green. She said – I know, you painted the entry in the last house green. That was 15 years ago. I totally forgot! LOL. Thanks Anita!

Aww, thank you for saying that about my vintage finds. Sometimes I think people won’t (or don’t) like mixing the old with new but that is charm and character to me. You made my day Ms. Marty. I appreciate it. Happy Spring!

Your home tour was so lovely Cindy! I love that you are declaring this year as the year of the topiary, so fun!
Author
LOL, thanks Heidi!
Cindy you are always so hilarious and creative, which makes your posts a joy!
I am topiary crazy, so I always love seeing them in other people’s homes. I am totally into decorating with things that will last year round, with only switching out a few little items for seasonal interests. I just can’t keep up with the redecorating every nook and cranny with every season.
Your home looks so springy and I love your green accents!
Happy spring my friend!

Aww, thank you Amber. I love hearing that. As I get older I am wanting to change things out seasonally less and less. Not sure I’ll ever not do something but not every room and not every season. Happy Spring to you too!
