Do you ever go shopping looking for a certain item and it’s not there or have an image in your mind only to be disappointed? That happened to me last week. Then I hit the jackpot. Hobby Lobby had it all and most of it was on sale! For our Pinterest Challenge this month we are celebrating Dad so let’s start with a Father’s Day buffet idea that will have him smiling.
A Father’s Day Buffet Idea That Will Have Him Smiling
If you’ve arrived here from My Family Thyme, howdy! Wasn’t Lynne’s buffet so stinkin’ cute?! I love a sports theme! And those pretzel bites looked delicious! I’ve actually never seen any like that.
This month our inspiration photo comes from Lori at Giggle Living. She created the cutest set up on the most adorable vintage dresser. When I look at the photo, I tried to incorporate some of her ideas but used them in a way that worked for us.

Here’s what I’m using from her buffet:
- Blue and white colors
- Table Runner
- Fabric Banner
- Tea Container
- Container for Paper Goods
- Clear Cups
- Green Backdrop
It brings me great great joy to organize fun tables. Whether it’s on the kitchen island, a picnic table at the lake or our own dining table, I love it. So when this month’s challenge came around I knew right away what I wanted to do. That’s when the disappointment started. I should know better by now not to have a picture in my head but thankfully it worked out in the end.
I always start with a theme.
Since the theme of Father’s Day was already set I chose to go with my husband’s favorite colors and foods. If we’re going to be outdoors or have a picnic, he likes good ol’ fashioned hamburgers and potato salad over chips or fries. And his favorite color is blue. Plus, this dessert will be perfect.
After looking at 3 stores and finding nothing I wanted, I came across these charcuterie letters at Hobby Lobby. They are hollow on the back side. Instead of filling them with food I chose to stand them up and create the perfect focal point. Don’t they look great? I tried double sided tape but it didn’t work very well. I ended up having to weigh them down with rocks. The tape would have been perfect on a plastic or wooden table but not with the wind and not with a quilted table cover.
Along with the large DAD letters, I bought fabric squares to make the banner. The patterns reminded me of a few of my own fathers’ old shirts. Lori used a crate but I already had a basket for the paper plates, napkins, and utensils. The quilt and table runner have been used several times. The white candle holders held the plastic cups and straws so the wind wouldn’t take them away.
After setting up the salads and dessert, all I had left to do was put out the condiments and burgers. I hope you see how easy it is to take one photo from Pinterest can be turned into something that works for you. This Father’s Day buffet idea that will have him smiling is just one of several other ideas to keep the dad in your life feeling special.
Next up in the challenge is Lora Bloomquist. You will love her nautical themed buffet!

We did have a great time and I’m looking forward to doing it again on the real Father’s Day. But the Mister helped with the set up since it was at the lake and he said this wasn’t his idea of a nice time. lol!
I’m ready to get in the buffet line! What a cute setup, and your dishes look so appetizing! Love the letters and the bunting! The fabric reminds me of the shirts my dad used to wear. I think he wore blue everyday!

Right?! I thought the same about the two larger plaid fabrics. They could have been straight out of my dads closet. ๐ Thank you Michelle.
Love your idea using a dresser for a buffet. Al. The food looks amazing.

I love this! โค๏ธ Where did you get your salad bowl with wood pieces? Love it! ๐
Author
Thank you Julie. The salad bowl was a friends who helped me set up and brought the salad. I’ll ask her and let you know. ๐

I checked and yes, the bowl with the wooden base was a wedding gift so she’s had it for about 30 years! She loves it. Thanks for the visit.
