It’s almost Autumn – yaaaas!  Are you as excited as everyone else I know?  If so, you are in the best place.  Today we have a Pumpkin Palooza Pinterest Challenge.  That’s right.  My friends and I are excited to share some of the cutest pumpkin crafts ever!  I’m starting with a DIY pumpkin candy bowl with Cottagecore vibes.

You might be asking why not just buy a candy bowl.  Well, I’m a little clumsy and most of the bowls are glass which is dangerous with our floors.  Plus the two I wanted were way overpriced.  Like these for $180 and this one for $60.  My pumpkin and added paper flowers for the cottagecore look cost less than $18.  Winner winner, chicken dinner.

If you’ve popped in from French Ethereal, welcome!  Did you love her diorama?  Fun fact – Barbara lives about 10 minutes from me.  Actually, I have a couple of bloggers not far away.  I’m hoping we can see more of each other soon.  They are some pizazzy friends for sure.

This is our inspiration photo.  Just like other Pinterest Challenges, we were tasked with creating something that worked with our style and that would work in our own home.  I saw wood-look pumpkins last year and never got around to getting one.  And like the forementioned pumpkins above, I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money.  So I went to Hobby Lobby for the 40% off pumpkins.

The Mister was generous with his busy schedule (and his tools that he doesn’t like me touching) and helped with cutting the pumpkin to make a lid.  He actually came with me to Hobby Lobby to find one that would cut properly.  Most of them are made of foam these days which won’t work but the one we got is made of resin or a plastic of some sort.

The Dremel was used to make a lid to create a bowl but the edges weren’t exactly smooth.  I was afraid that someone would snag a finger and cut themselves.  The Dremel made quick work of making it smooth.  After the sanding and a good cleaning, we noticed the lid was a little difficult to match up when closed.

hot gluing paper flowers to wood look bowlStep Three – Hot glue paper flowers for cuteness.

That’s when the paper flowers came in handy.  I hot glued the flowers on the lid but placed the last flower on the bowl so we could tell where the lid was supposed to meet up with the bottom.  The paper flowers was the fun part.  To customize your pumpkin turned bowl, you could add dried or paper flowers, paint it or change out the handle.  The possibilities are practically endless.

The bowl portion is about 4 inches tall so it will hold quite a bit of candy.  Reese’s Pieces are popular in this house.  To fill it would be at least 2 family sized bags.

But when visitors are expected, they get individually wrapped candy.  I don’t know where their hands have been and that’s just unsophisticated and disgusting if you ask me.

So what do you think?  Is a DIY pumpkin candy bowl with Cottagecore vibes on your list of things to do this fall?  It will take about 5 minutes to make/cut a lid and 10 minutes to hot glue on some paper flowers.  I love how it turned out and will be excited to have it sitting out where everyone can enjoy it.  Well not everyone. ๐Ÿ˜‰  By the way, if you don’t want to use it for candy, it’s perfect for holding a candle!

Next up is  CoCo from The Crowned Goat.  Her style is so feminine and beautiful.  You will love seeing her pumpkin diffuser!  And don’t forget to check out all of the squares below.  Everyone is so creative.  You’ll have a lot of inspiration for an Autumn craft this year and probably a lot of pinning to do!

Cindy, what a great idea to turn this wooden pumpkin into a pumpkin bowl! I saw those wood pumpkins and thought they were too expensive, but on sale they are a winner. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sooo love the added flowers… Very cute idea! Pinned a bunch, as always. <3

Cindy, what a clever way to make a pumpkin with a lid. Very inventive. I want to know where you found the M & Mโ€™s. Are they already out? I havenโ€™t been looking. Your paper flowers are a great embellishment. Loved this monthโ€™s challenge. Thank you for hosting.

Those are Reese’s Pieces which are practically a year round staple for the Mister. Ha! Glad you liked it Carol, thank you. And cheers to the upcoming season!

Thanks bunches Rachel. I’ve used those same paper flowers on another project a couple of years ago. Great for fall color.

This is super cute, Cindy. Love the idea of using little flowers. Problem with little candies is that I actually want to eat them all!

Oh yes! We are just about ready for a refill! Maybe I should switch to the candle? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you Debra!

This is mind blowing brilliant Cindy! I will be looking at pumpkins with a critical eye from now on to see how I can create something similar. The paper flowers are so perfect for cottagecore vibes! Love it and pinning!

I know, right? Ever since I decided to make a candy bowl, every pumpkin got the Cindy test and twice over. It had to be the right material, the right size and texture. I overthink everything so it took me a while to finally choose one. Hope it doesn’t take you that long. lol. Have fun decorating it. I enjoyed it immensely! Thank you Michelle.

So smart and clever, my friend! I love how you used it for a candle, too! Inquiring minds want to know… how did you keep the Reese’s Pieces from falling through the hole at the bottom. You thought I might miss that, didn’t you?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ LOL!

    • August 27, 2024 / 3:23 pm

Oh dang, I forgot to mention that! They actually are slightly larger than the hole but for smaller candy, I’ll either cut a small paper plate and put it inside or stuff some felt or other fabric in the hole. Thanks so much Julie. I’ll go back and edit that part.

    Cindy,
This is so creative! Those other pumpkin-lidded dishes are pricey for sure! I love how you thought about doing this. I would have surely cut off my fingers doing it though. I’d have my husband do it as well. LOVE it! Shared on FB and pinned.

    • August 28, 2024 / 9:59 am

LOL Christy. Even watching the Mister do it I thought for sure the pumpkin was going to shoot across the table into the yard. But he made it look easy. Thanks so much for the sweet comment and shares. They are much appreciated. Enjoy that grandbaby!

Oh my goodness, Cindy! You are so clever! I love how you created a lidded pumpkin dish, and the flowers are the perfect touch! Thank you so much for hosting this creative challenge each month!
