A Beautiful and Neutral Merry Christmas 3 Mantels Tour

If you’re new here, you’ll quickly see I have a strong infatuation for mantels. Not fireplaces.  We live in Texas.  We only have one working fireplace but 3 mantels total in this house.  Last year I added a mantel to the farmhouse and I’m looking for more!  I’d love to add one to each bedroom there too.  I just love them!

stone mantel in corner with Christmas trees and garland Mantel #1 – Living Room

Let’s start with the one in the living room.  This mantel used to be made of the same stone as the wall and boy oh boy did it give me fits.  It was shallow, uneven and I was constantly propping things up with little pieces of paper.  Not a good look.  Then a couple of years ago the mister made this cover with scrap pieces of fencing we had in the garage.  I’m still excited to decorate it each season.

Christmas mantel with garland and white candles

Why I decided to go with a woodsy natural look this year is because I still remember our vacation to Montana last year and still wish I were there!  The trees, pinecones and natural beauty were incredible so I opted for a similar look again this year.  Each time I walk in it’s like I’m back in those small towns and touring the winding roads.  Seriously magical.

Something else about me is that I’m a practical decor enthusiast.  Those candles are from Walmart but each one takes 3 AA batteries.  Um, nope.  Instead, I keep the fairy lights on and am perfectly happy with it.  When we have people over I’ll add the batteries.  I don’t want to look that cheap.  πŸ˜‰

dining room table and black mantel for ChristmasMantel #2 – Dining Room

This mantel was found on Facebook Market place for a steal.  The homeowners decided to go with a more contemporary look.   Good news for me!  One day if we move we’ll take it with us so instead of removing the chair railing on that wall, I made a no-sew drop cloth curtain using a tension rod behind the mantel.  Easy peasy and no damage to the wall.  I can’t imagine the room without it anymore.  I enjoy how it fills up the wall.

Black mantel with large Merry Christmas sign and candles

When we use garland across this mantel it really needs two of them to look full.  If you can’t tell from the photo, the mantel is about 9 feet wide and 5 feet tall.  I need a step stool to see the top.  For something different than last year, I chose not to do garland but instead tuck free fresh greenery stems on top of the mantel and on the Merry Christmas sign.  I get the greenery at Lowe’s from the trash bin next to where they cut the trunks from the real Christmas trees.  If they don’t have enough, I pop over to Home Depot.  Our home is filled with it!

With the theme around the house this Christmas season being neutral and woodsy, I couldn’t resist adding my little DIY trees in vintage silver pieces.  If you’d like to see the super easy DIY, click here.  They are quick, easy and fun.  And they make great filler for vignettes around the house.  Especially at Christmas.

Seating Area with mantel and black mantel with stockingsMantel #3 – Upstairs Landing

This area is where you land before you get to the kids bedrooms and game room.  That little black beauty is probably my favorite mantel of all.  Found it at a going out of business sale.  It wasn’t for sale until I asked.  So always ask.  Not really knowing how I wanted to decorate this one I went back into the attic and found the wonderful garland that a dear blogging friend gave me.  Thank you Laura.  Actually her sweet daughter brought it to everyone at a luncheon one day.  Love it!

black mantel with white stockings and greenery

Then I found this weird little half tree.  Have you ever seen a half tree?  The pot and tree are both flat on the back side.  I’ve never used it but remember getting it about 8 years ago at a garage sale.  Remember when I mentioned I was practical and didn’t like to spend money?  This crazy little thing could be totally out of style but because it’s Christmas and since our attic is full of crap treasures, I’m using it.  It works.  LOL!

Keeping it simple and natural looking this year was the goal.  I didn’t go out and purchase anything.  It was all stuff I already had.  Except for the free fresh greens from the trash bin.  If I were to tell the Mister all about it, he’d just say great and not really understand how fantastic that really is.  Do you live with one of those?  LOL!  Now it’s time for you to head over to Sweet Pea.  You’ll love her vintage goodies.

Cindy!! Your third mantel is my favorite too!! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a half tree, but it makes sense if you going to put it up against a wall! So glad you shared your mantel!! Such beautiful inspiration!! XoXo

    Cindy,
Oh how beautiful! I wish I had a mantel after seeing all of yours. So happy we are sharing on the same day.

    • December 2, 2021 / 9:59 am

Thank you Rachel. All I can say is beware. Once you get one, you’re going to get another then another. They make any space instantly more cozy. πŸ™‚

    Cindy,

Your mantles are very pretty! I love all three ideas but the first grabbed me in the end.

    Pinned!

    • December 2, 2021 / 10:00 am

Thank you Cindy. I appreciate that and the pin. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Love your style & all the beautiful mantles! I use rechargeable batteries for my candles. When they get low I simply recharge them for a few hours & never need to buy new batteries.

    • December 2, 2021 / 10:02 am

Oh my gosh, Holly, why didn’t I think of that?! Thanks so much for the great advice and for your sweet compliment. I’m putting the batteries on the grocery list!

You are so right about the popularity of mantels without fireplaces in the south. I never thought about it before but it is so true! Love all your ideas Cindy, and I’m going to get out some of my old silver pieces for mini trees. So pretty!

    • December 2, 2021 / 5:09 pm

Yay Michelle, I’m so glad you saw something you’d like to do! Merry Christmas!

Neutral is perfect and so much prettier to me, I love the greens and wood tones. Enjoy and have a blessed day.

    • December 2, 2021 / 5:11 pm

Me too Marlene. It’s so peaceful. The red is pretty to but that screams fun and energetic to me but this year I want tranquility. πŸ™‚ Merry Christmas!

I just told my husband Montana is on my bucket list. It looks like you got some beautiful inspiration from your travel!! Your mantles all look gorgeous and so Christmas ready! Happy to tour with you this week!

    • December 3, 2021 / 2:32 pm

Oh my soul, when you go to Montana, take more than a week. You’ll still need more time. It’s gorgeous. We went in the fall and the weather was magnificent. Thank you for the sweet compliment Kim. Hope you have a great weekend.

  16. December 2, 2021 / 9:55 pm

Cindy I am all about having 3 mantels! In our old house I didn’t have one and now I have only one. I might need a few more now! Thanks for the beautiful inspiration. I love your greenery and how you scored it! So smart. Thanks for joining me this week!

    • December 3, 2021 / 2:33 pm

I need more mantels too Kelly! I’d like one in every bedroom eventually. Glad you enjoyed it. I’m honored to have been included. Merry Christmas!

  17. December 3, 2021 / 5:33 am

Cindy, I love your style and sensibility with it! What a smart solution in building the box in the first mantel. The second one is handsomely huge, never realized its size, and using old silver plate is something I love doing too. I also dig in Lowes scraps! Your third one makes a really cozy sitting area.
I love the natural look you chose. It makes a beautiful Christmas and transition to winter look. Merry Christmas season to you!

    • December 3, 2021 / 2:35 pm

Thanks so much Rita. We didn’t realize the massiveness of the mantel in the dining room until he pulled it out of his garage! He could have sold it for so much more money. Glad it’s mine though. Glad you stopped by. Merry Christmas to you as well.

  18. December 3, 2021 / 9:32 am

Your home is gorgeous! I especially love your fireplaces and how you have decorated them for the holidays. I’m thrilled to be on this tour with you.

    • December 3, 2021 / 2:39 pm

It makes my day hearing that Shawna. Thanks so much! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season.

    • December 3, 2021 / 2:41 pm

Me too Robyn, thanks so much! I can’t get enough. I purchased 3 more 25′ fresh garland today! Looking forward to finding a place for it. πŸ˜‰ Merry Christmas as well.

The mantles all look lovely, I like the simple greenery…some would be pretty between all the candles, don’t you think?

    • December 4, 2021 / 4:15 pm

Yes I do Jill. Now that Costco is selling their fresh garland, I’ve already added it and more in between the candles. Thanks for the visit! Merry Christmas

    December 4, 2021 / 9:05 pm

Oh my! I love them all!!! Your house is so cozy and warm. Merry Christmas to you and your family. xx

    • December 5, 2021 / 11:46 am

Aww, thank you Libbie. It makes my day to hear you say that. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season.

  24. December 6, 2021 / 12:37 pm

I love your neutral, woodsy look on all your mantels, and you can keep it up through the winter! The dining room one is my favorite, and 9 feet? Seriously amazing score! Thanks for the tour!

    • December 7, 2021 / 10:05 am

I know, right?! It’s crazy good. And yep, that’s the plan. Keep it up through winter with minimal changes. I’ll have to get rid of the real stuff by then. It’s going to be super crispy. πŸ™ Thank you Lora. Merry Christmas

  25. December 7, 2021 / 6:01 am

Cindy your home looks so gorgeous and I love those wicker chairs!!!

    • December 7, 2021 / 10:04 am

Thank you Stacy. I get a lot of compliments on those chairs. Got them from Pier One years ago. Hope your move is easy and you can get that tree up!

  26. December 12, 2021 / 7:02 pm

Cindy, your Christmas decor is beautiful! I love all of your beautiful mantles, but I think the third is my favorite too! Your gorgeous greenery will be perfect throughout the winter months ahead. It was so much fun to be on this tour with you. Merry Christmas!

    • December 13, 2021 / 11:54 am

Thank you Lynne. Each time I walk up the stairs and see that 3rd mantel, I give out a teeny tiny giggle. Hope you have a great week and are enjoying your Christmas season.
