Hello Friends! I like a good cloche idea but honestly, they make me nervous. It could be the 5 people and 3 dogs running around the house but I can’t change that so today I’m going to share how to make a cute inexpensive rustic cloche using grapevine wire which is basically non-breakable! Woohoo!
How To Make A Cute Inexpensive Rustic Cloche

This month’s Pinterest Challenge inspiration photo comes from Beth at Home Stories A to Z. She gave us a fall tour but we are concentrating on her fall decorated cloche. What I noticed about this area besides the obvious cloche were the flowers and pumpkins. It was all beautiful and worked nicely with her dining room.
As pretty as it is, the fun thing about a Pinterest Challenge is we get to look at the inspiration photo through our own eyes and make it work for us and our individual home styles.

Have you ever heard of Grapevine Wire? I had not until I wanted to make a cloche. I’ve made a cloche before. A super cute chicken wire cloche from a thrifted lamp shade (which you can see here) but this time I wanted something rustic looking and similar to willow branches.
If you’re a floral designer or love to make flower arrangements you know exactly what grapevine wire is. You can find it in the floral department next to the floral tape and wire cutters. It’s like wired ribbon but it’s wrapped in (I think paper) something that looks like grapevine. It is inexpensive and comes in a 25 foot roll. I got 2 rolls and each are regularly each $4.99.
Steps 1-3 to making a rustic cloche.
First you need to decide how large you want the cloche to be. I didn’t want it to be huge so I used our cookie jar to start wrapping the wire around to make the base of the cloche. I wrapped it 4 times around and secured it by twisting the ends around each other.
Steps 4-5
Next I started making and attaching the outside edges. They are simple curved pieces of the grapevine wire crimped around the base to hold everything together. You can make them all the same size or do what I did and make 3 different sizes (roughly 15′, 18′ and 24′). Placing them on opposite sides of each other. I know it looks like a mess but it’s super easy to put together.
Steps 6-7
After you’ve attached all of the side pieces you want, cut two more pieces that will go around the outside edge. One for the bottom portion about 1/4 of the way up and the other for the top about 1/4 way down from the top. Weave them in and out of each side section and secure like you did the rest; crimping the ends around the other wire pieces.
The last thing I did was to cut off about an 8″ piece of wire and made a loop for the handle at the top. I could have crimped it around the top 2 pieces but my fingers were tired of it so I tied it on with a piece of twine. Easy peasy!
So rustic and cute!
This is how it will look once your are finished. It took about 20 minutes to make and even though I opened the second package of wire, I used it only for the handle. So depending on your size, you could get away with one 25′ package. How do you like it? It’s exactly what I was hoping for and definitely rustic.
Because I enjoyed it so much, you can see I played around with a few different looks underneath. I can tell it’s going to be one of my new favorite decorating pieces. 🙂
Here’s one more thing you could do with this super cute grapevine wire cloche. Add fairy lights before you fill it up! This is the first time I’ve used fairy lights but it won’t be the last. I love how they look.

HI cindy, I have never heard of grapevine wire. OMG I love this cloche! You are right you are going t have so much fun with this and the twinkle lights! My mind is racing. Okay, quick question? What did you use to attach the wire at the base and down the sides? Did you cut smaller pieces of twine to secure the grapevine wire to the base and sides?

You will be addicted (like me) to that wire and twinkle lights! I’m all about the twinkling now. 😉 If you look at the “steps” photos it will show how I just bent the wired around itself and crimped the ends around each other. The only twine I used was to secure the handle/knob on the top. It’s super easy! Have fun!

oh Cindy, this is THE cutest idea for a cloche ever!! It’s so fun and rustic. I’ve purchased this wire but in a darker grapevine color. I would never have thought of creating a cloche. LOVE it!!

We’ve had a few catastrophes around here. But to be honest, it’s been me! I bought a huge vintage demi-john in the most gorgeous blue color earlier this summer. Lugged that thing around and the second day it was home, I picked it up for a photo and dropped it on the tile. It shattered as did my heart. Ugh. I was so mad at myself.
