Hello!!! It’s been a while. I hope you haven’t forgotten about me?! We’ve been so busy this summer and life has been crazy but that adventure is for another day. Today I have another Pinterest Challenge for you. If you’ve hopped over from Follow the Yellow Brick Home, howdy!
My blogger friends and I love these Pinterest challenges. It’s so fun taking a photo from Pinterest and seeing how I can adjust it for my own home and showing you how to do the same.
The inspiration photo below is from Kelley Nan at www.kelleynan.com . The lantern on the hearth is simple but pretty. I love the look but with my hearth you’d never see it. We rearranged the furniture for a welcome change a couple of weeks ago and now the fireplace is kind of hidden.
What I see from this photo is 3 different elements. A lantern with a white candle, greenery on the bottom and a plant in the background. I have a lantern, a white candle and a plant for the background but not the mossy greens on the bottom. You might think you’re looking at the same photo as you scroll through but look closely, they’re different. ๐ Here’s what I tried.
1 Lantern Vignette with 4 Looks
Look #1
A rule I try to follow is using what I already have and since I don’t have the greenery to put inside the lantern around the bottom of the white candle, I decided instead to move or use a plant as the greenery but on the outside the lantern. I’m still using the same elements just in a different way.
Look #2
Remember the use-odd-numbers-rule when decorating? The lamp is my third item since I’m using two other items. I added the lamp and to keep this look similar to the inspiration photo, I used greenery balls on the inside of the lantern and moved the candle outside. The candle holder mimics the gray color of the lantern for cohesiveness.
Look #3
There’s no reason to keep everything exactly the same when trying to replicate a Pinterest photo. The candle holder/base is the same warm color that’s in the lamp. I think it looks a little nicer because the shorter candle seems taller and is a better scale or fit with the lantern size.
Look #4
With this last look, I still have the same gray lantern, a white candle and greenery in the form of a topiary. Same elements, same inspiration photo, similar looks. Like I mentioned before, duplicating a photo doesn’t have to be exact.
There you go, 1 lantern vignette with 4 looks. If you’d like to see last month’s challenge, click here. It’s perfect for the upcoming July 4th festivities!

Cindy love all of your ideas for the challenge. I’m a sucker for pedestals so that may be my favorite but hard to choose. Love these challenges.
I saw you’re off to see family. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks Laura! Lanterns are becoming a decorating staple for me. ๐
Cindy, your vignettes explain exactly how versatile the same elements can be with just a few adjustments. I love them all and I canโt tell you which one is my favorite. Itโs always great to decorate by shopping you own home. Thank you again for hosting this super fun and instructive challenge.

My pleasure Carol. The Mister likes shopping the closet is great too! LOL.
I’m not sure which of the four looks that I like best. They all look great and are perfect for summer decor!

Thank you Paula. Summer decor always seems so fresh. And I love lanterns and the versatility that comes with them.
Absolutely lovely! Lanterns are just so classic and versatile. I just can’t pick one favorite from your styled choices!

Thanks Christy. I liked them all too. Guess Iโll have to just change it up each week. Although they are so subtle, no one in my family will notice except me. LOL
Cindy what a great idea to share 4 lantern vignettes. Everyone loves lanterns so this challenge is perfect for all readers. Thanks for hosting this wonderful Pinterest Challenge each month.

I know! Everyone (including you) is so clever! Glad to host. Thanks for the sweet comment Barbara.
Love that you did 4 different looks from the one photo by changing up each vignette just a wee bit! Lovely, Cindy… thanks for putting this together, even while away from home! ๐

Thanks Katie! I enjoy hosting and challenging all of us. ๐
Thanks for coordinating such a fun challenge, Cindy! I love all your lantern looks, so it’s hard for me to choose just one! I love the first one and the little topiary in the bag, but they are each so lovely. If you’re like me, you’re always rearranging based on the day and the mood.
Safe travels to you, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

We are definitely the same when it comes to โmoodโ decorating! LOL. I liked them all so Iโll probably change them each week. ๐
Your cleverness is showing!! Such cute ideas, have fun with your family.

I donโt feel clever but thank you Marlene for saying that. So nice of you. And thanks for the well wishes with family. So far so good! ๐
I like #4 because of the simple brown paper bag that you put around the topiary. Great combo of high and low textures and love the neutrals with the green. Great way to show how you can make your own variation. Thanks for organizing, Cindy!

Glad to do it Lora. The topiary with the brown paper lunch sack was because the base was ugly but cheap! And topiaries are so expensive. Am I right?! Yep. ๐

Thank you Amber. It was fun putting them all together. And Iโm glad you got to join us.
Cindy I love how you shared four different ways for styling a lantern! They all look great but I really love number 4. I had planned to show a few different items in my lanterns too, but alas, it rained… today was beautiful and sunny at least! This was such a fun idea for a challenge and now I will have a hard time buying another lantern or two after seeing all of the beautiful ideas.
Thanks so much for organizing this and allowing me to join. Happy Summer!

Thanks! I liked them all too so Iโll probably Switch it out each month.
I have super similar lanterns and was actually looking forward to styling them this coming fall! (Right now they just have candles in them.) But I think you’ve just upped my game and I will need to add something to them for the summer as well. I would also love to be a part of your Pinterest challenge group if you’re taking new members! You can reach me at kathleen@ourhopefulhome.com. I’m a new follower:) Thanks!
