Hello Friends! The questions for the day is – Are you crafty? I am not. Even though I feel I’m good at a lot of things, sitting down and making something out of nothing isn’t my forte. It’s more like a chore to me; not relaxing, not fun, not comforting. The only thing I like about crafting is if I can do it around a table, chatting with other friends while eating a cupcake. But no one has ever invited me to do such a thing. Hint hint – I’m free next Tuesday. 😉
So in order to push myself into doing new things, so my oldish mind stays fresh (yeah probably not), I’ve decided to join in with some blogger friends and do something on the 10th of each month. It’s called Ten on the 10th! We have a theme and will post a project on the 10th of each month costing less than $10 to create! I’m already kicking myself for saying yes but I’m going to try my best not to embarrass them or myself. Our first host this year is Carol at Bluesky at Home and our theme this month is Valentine DIY. A Hanging Paper Heart
Supplies Needed:
4 pieces of card stock or thick paper
Double sided tape or glue
String (nothing too thick but definitely thicker than thread) Bakers string or Embroidery string works
Hole punch and scissors
Buttons and beads
Needle
All materials came from Hobby Lobby and since everything was 50% off, the total cost was $6.79 and I have several beads, buttons and thread left over.
6 Easy Steps:
Step 1: Fold each piece of paper in half and score the middle. Then draw one half of a heart in your desired size. Mine was about 5 inches from top to bottom.
Step 2: Cut out your paper heart. I used pinking shears but you can use regular scissors too. I placed all 4 sheets together and cut them all at once.
Step 3: Adhere them together. Ugh, confession time – It took me a while to figure this out. Like 20 minutes! So let’s see if I can explain. I put one half of a heart to the back side of another half of a heart and taped them together. Then did the same with the other half hearts until all 4 pieces were taped together.
Step 4: Fold the taped hearts in half and punch a hole about 1/2″ below the top on the middle crease. I couldn’t find our hole punch so I poked a pencil through and it worked out fine.
Step 5: Cut a piece of string in the length you need. Mine was cut about 28″ long. To get started, simply push the string through the punched hole and tie in a knot. Since buttons have two holes, I needed the string doubled so I could separate the string and feed it through the other hole at the same time.
Step 6: Begin threading beads or buttons until you are happy with the outcome. Knot the string after each button or bead to hold in place.
That’s all there is to making a hanging paper heart. It’s so cute. I hung it under our dining room chandelier. You could make several paper hearts and hang them on each arm of your chandelier if you so desire. I desired but because it took me way longer to make this than I expected, I stopped at one.
Well that’s my first 2019 craft. I hope as the months go by I get better and faster at this. Ooh, next month’s Ten on the 10th theme is Thrift Shop Challenge. What does that mean? I’ma goin shoppin. At a thrift store! Woo hoo!

If it makes you feel any better, I love crafting but I’m all thumbs when it comes to painting furniture and cooking.
