Hello friends! Do you remember last year when I mentioned that the year before that our tree fell over – TWICE? I fully intended to gather new ornaments at the after-Christmas-day sales. Well that didn’t happen so I’m stuck with decorating our tree again this year and being a little disgruntled. I collected a few more vintage cups so there’s that (insert half grin). Honestly, if it were up to me, I’d forego the tree altogether but the kids expect a tree when they come home. And since I signed up to be in a Christmas Tree blog hop before I remembered I hadn’t shopped last year, I have to hesitantly show it.
A Christmas tree without charisma
I know I’m hard on myself and I should probably change the name to Cynical Cindy’s Completely Eclectic Tree. That would be a better description. Side note and Update: When the tree was pulled out of the box this year the flocking was still on it and barely any white residue/powder was left in the box! I should have gone a few weeks ago and purchased new ornaments and made it beautiful like the departments store trees or the trees you’ll see at the bottom of this post, but that isn’t me. I don’t pay full price for anything and I can’t buy everything from Hobby Lobby. Although, the biggest factor is that I can’t make up my mind on a theme. So many lovely friends have themes for their trees.
As I put it together with what ornaments I had, I realized something; this is absolutely my kind of Christmas tree! It’s mismatched and random with it’s horns and cranberry candle rings. It’s slightly vintage with a dash of trendy from the silverware, the creamers and pom pom garland. It has rustic elements like the pinecones and acorns and a little glitz thrown in with the shiny mercury glass ornaments. It’s all kinds of crazy uniqueness! LOL
Next year I’ll need to take a ribbon tucking class. Do they even have those? They must. I’ve tried to get the ribbon just right and cannot do it. Side note – the pomp-a-doodle yarn is waaaay cheaper to use than the garland they offer in the Christmas section at the store. The original garland is about $2.00 a yard. Um, I don’t think so. I found this in the crocheting department and for 14 yards it cost $4.99 and I got it with a 40% off coupon! Can I get an amen?!
I also need to watch a you tube video on how to make a bow. Even though I’ve done that about a hundred times, I still can’t do that either. Not sure if it’s the video tutorials or me. I’m going with the tutorials. 😉
Still on the hunt for a nice topper but until I find the perfect piece, I’ll wait and not have anything up there.
Next year the walls WILL be painted and the tree is going to be adorable and fantastical! It may have a theme. It could whimsical or all out vintage. Either way, it will be me. I don’t know why you are beating yourself up. Your tree is so beautiful & individual. Next year I am going to put ribbon on mine. It’s super cheap in Costco. You got a bargain with the Pom poms. You couldn’t make them for that price.
I don’t know how mine has managed to stay up my little cat climbs up the inside & it shakes! 😼😹🎄

Sue, you can find that pom pom “garland” almost anywhere they sell crocheting supplies. It really sticks to the limbs so I’m not sure how hard it will be to get it off but the savings was worth it to me. Thanks for stopping by!
Beautiful. I’m with you on making bows. They never look quite right. A couple of years ago, our tree was always in danger of falling over. I went on the hunt for a different stand. At a thrift store, I found one of the really large round ones that originally made the tree revolve. Well, it did the trick (not revolving of course) and our tree has never even once thought of falling over. (even with a cat and dog)!! I’m getting ready to put our tree up and I love those pompoms so I may try and find some. Thanks!!

You are too hard on yourself. I love your tree not only because it’s beautiful, but because it means so much to you. While I was decorating my tree for the blog hop I kept thinking that I really should bring back all the ornaments that my kids made and special items that mean so much to me rather than get caught up in having the new and trendy. Don’t beat up yourself over this tree. It is my kind of tree covered in memories from years gone buy. I have one wooden star from Sweden which was sent to me probably 30 or 40 years ago.. There were five but only one left! The children will love your tree and will look for the treasures they saw last year.

Your tree is stunning. Don’t change a thing! I totally understand starting over with ornaments. I had to do that after the flood of ’94 and consider myself to still be trying. LOL My hubby probably thinks I have achieved enough. There is no way I could possibly bring myself to pay full price for ornaments! So glad you are in the hop. I’d hate to have missed your gorgeous tree.

Flocked trees are my weakness, but alas, I don’t have one! I love your tree and I don’t think there is anything ordinary about it at all. It is special and has so many gorgeous and special ornaments on it. The silver fork, the silver cup, perfect! I do something different with my ribbon on my trees every year. This year I decided to cut my ribbon in short pieces and tuck it in, I like it better than any of the other ways I have done it. I have a couple of bow-tying video tutorials on my Facebook page if you want to take a look!

I know i am not a blogger so i don’t have to worry about the whole world seeing it but, i have never seen an ugly tree and isn’t it suppose to be the season of love and giving so, if that is the tree you gave us to see should we not see the love in it. It is a beauty thank you Cindy.

I love your tree. It has a beautiful shape and the decorations are so pretty. I love flocked trees but just can’t go out and buy one since I have 9 already. One I just flocked myself but it’s not the true flocking and the other tree I use flocked picks. A Christmas tree is beautiful regardless what style it is. Even Charlie Brown’s tree was pretty to me. ha!

I LOVE your tree! I thought that you had styled it like that with a theme until I read that you couldn’t decide on one. So no one would ever guess that. I have trouble with bows, so I finally gave up and bought a bow maker. Same as you with ribbon – I’ve watched many tutorials, but mine just never looks right unless I cut it into shorter pieces and tuck it. Love your garland; I’ll have to check that out for next year.
