If you’ve been on any social media platform recently you’ve seen fall tablescapes, fall living rooms, fall porches, etc. Oh I’m not complaining – I love it! But here in Texas it’s still going to be hot for quite a while and it won’t even look like fall until mid to late October. So instead of feeling awkward about myself and getting raised eyebrows from any guests because it’s still 95 degrees outside, here are a few tips to transition into a soothing fall bedroom without being “all in”.
Tips For a Slow Transition Into Fall
Begin by choosing a fall like color that will coordinate with your existing bedroom decor. Fall colors are usually deeper, richer and darker like reds, oranges, yellows, browns, purples, and dark greens. Our suburban house bedroom is mostly teal and blue. So checking the color wheel and looking on the opposite side, I chose a dark orange which is perfect for fall.
I had this pillow from last year but added faux stems to the top of the canopy for a little autumn interest from mother nature. If you don’t have a canopy type bed, you can add greenery elsewhere. I could have added it to the wooden frame above the headboard or added small wreaths to the mirrors that hang above the side tables. Just a little greenery brings the outdoors in and adds a touch of fall without looking overly autumn. Side note: After looking at this picture, if you don’t like wrinkles in your bedding, don’t buy a linen comforter. Goodness gracious that is annoying. When the temperature finally gets cooler, it will be easy to add a blanket to the bottom of the bed in the deeper fall hues.
It’s hard to tell because the candle is lit but the glass holder is a dark teal so I chose to add orangy hydrangeas inside the lanterns. You really can’t go wrong with lanterns. I find them very versatile. When I get tired of the hydrangeas, I can switch them out with a candle and use acorns as a filler or fall leaves or maybe some fragrant apples. Numerous choices! And the sunflower is perfect for transitioning from late summer to fall. Obviously this one is more metallic than bright gold but I like how it’s barely noticeable.
Another way to add hints of fall color is by introducing napkin rings or candle rings in unusual places. I’ve added a candle ring to two of the bed posts. You can hang them from lamps, vases, door knobs, or even attach them to a pillow.
Look at the picture above. I added a candle to the side table that coordinates with the fall pillow. What I want you to notice is in the next two pictures below.
You can add subtle fall color in other much smaller ways.
Especially if you don’t want to use a large fall looking pillow. BTW, you can turn the pillow around and use the back side. Wrapping jute, twine or ribbon around it will give it more style!
See how an added orange book brings in fall color? Books are always useful for height but choose your colors wisely to make a subtle or not so subtle statement. Whatever works for you. The book and candle sit in front of my son’s high school art project with limbs inside. He never thought it would be in a blot post! LOL. I honestly don’t have a sentimental bone in my body but using items that are meaningful creates in me a sense of family which makes me think of togetherness and what the coming holidays will bring – Happiness.
If you aren’t ready for pumpkins, how about a small vase instead? Frames with pressed leaves would look nice too or a picture with a fall landscape. Really anything where the subject matter is in those rich deep dark fall colors will compliment a fall vignette.
Well, did you get some not-so-over-the-top soothing fall bedroom decor ideas without being all in until it’s cool outside? 😉 I hope so!

Subtle is the name of the game for us too! I Love the way you are making the seasonal transition with pieces that can move around and change as needed. I love the little vine at the top of your bed!! Touches like that make all the difference in the world.

Thank you Stacey! The Mister isn’t home yet so I wonder what he’s going to think when he sees it?! Although, he’s probably used to things like that by now. 😉
Truly great tips Cindy! I absolutely adore that sweet leaf pillow. I NEED it!
Author
Thanks Laura. I have two of those pillows and LOVE them! Happy Birthday btw! Hope you have a great week!
Perfect …. here in Florida we are still hovering around “High Nineties” …. So just a touch of fall .. very subtle is perfect !! 🙂 I love the bed decor and … btw… the bed itself!!
Author
Thank you Terri. Yep, I think we’ll be hot for many more weeks. And the bed was a surprise gift from the Mister. He’s a pretty good gift giver, huh?! 🙂
Very well done and explained well too! Beautiful touches!
Author
Thank you Karen. I appreciate that!
Great tips here for when I am ready to embrace fall…here in West Texas, fall is surely in the air but still hot enuf during the day that I can’t get “in the mood” to decorate for fall just yet. Your bed is so pretty…now I am inspired to do a post on my bedroom….not a fallish thing in there but I just got it all cleaned up and looking pretty in a very casual way.
Author
Thank you BJ. I do love our bed. And I wasn’t inspired either until I did a thorough cleaning myself! It’s crazy how just getting things organized, put away and cleaned up can change our mood. 🙂
Pumpkins, leaves and the smell of a beautiful scented candle always remind me of Fall. Beautiful tour.
Author
Thanks Marty. I think the smells are my favorite. I can’t seem to get enough of the fall candles!
I love the soft fall color tones you added…perfect for an early autumn, restful and cozy bedroom!
Author
Awe, thanks Linda. It wasn’t always restful but I really enjoy it now that we painted the walls. Hope you have a great day!
Our leaves have started changing here, so it’s not unheard of to put out fall stuff but I wait until after Labor Day to bring out my fall decor. These are great ways to add just a hint of fall!
Author
I usually wait until Sept 22 for mine but being a blogger makes it difficult to hold off that long. I want to help friends get a nice start on their decor! 😉
Love the greenery over the bed! Such a lovely touch.
Author
Thank you Michelle. It makes the room feel more cozy. 😉

Thank you Cecilia! It has been a fun tour for sure. I’ve seen some great new ideas I’d like to implement soon.
I know what you mean, even though it is a tad cooler here this week, praise the Lord! These are some great ideas, i did put away all my light pink flowers, now i need to change pillows, always something. Have a cool day,” drink ice water, lots of ice”!!!

I love changing out the pillows! Once mid September gets here, I’ll put out the other stuff but I’m definitely not going all out like in years past. Pairing down and purging. Way to much stuff to put away the day after Thanksgiving! I probably have enough fall decor to open up my own small store. Maybe I should have a garage sale?!
Beautiful! I love the subtle hint of Fall.
Author
Yay Nancy! It makes my heart smile to know you like it. ❤️😀
This is such pretty room! I just love the quiet tones and subtle touches of fall.. The accent pillows make such a difference and easily changeable with each season.
Great inspiration. It was fun joining you on this home tour.

Cindy,
I am with you on SLOW transition to fall with all-out fall showing up at my house sometime in October. Your fall touches are great ideas… darker tones, pillows, and small seasonal wreaths.
Happy Fall…. now and when it actually shows up in Texas. 🙂

I haven’t always had dark tones in our bedroom but this year, I’m really liking it! The teals and navy go with so many other colors. I should have done it sooner. Thank for hopping over today Judith!
The subtle touches are just perfect! I love how the orange harmonizes with the aqua. I absolutely love adding books here and there around my home. I often buy them for the colors. A beautiful bedroom indeed!

One of the nice things about taking care of two houses is that I can mix and match my styles. I love having the farmhouse in all neutral colors with a rustic style and this suburban house in full color and more on the modern style! The best of two worlds! Thanks for visiting today and the sweet compliments.
Cindy, I think the wrinkly comforter looks just fine; think Rachel Ashwell;) She wouldn’t have even had the bed made for the picture! I love the deep, rich colors you brought into this space; very classy. FYI…just saw my first mum for sale at the grocery store here in MN! We put our spruce tips in the pots when you guys are just getting your pumpkins! Oh, what a difference! Fun hopping with you again!
Author
Thanks Lora! For the wrinkle encouragement and classy compliment! Great day! Jealous of your sooner-than-later fall arrival too. Happy fall.
My favorite thing about decorating is tucking odd bits here and there. I fell in love with the way you used the candle ring on the end of the bed.
Author
Thank you Carol! I use candle rings all over the place. Probably in too many places! 😉. Hope you have a great week.
Even being further north of you here in West Virginia and having a few days of fall-like weather (at least in the mornings and evenings), I’m with you on the subtle changes. I love the fall pillow in the chair by the side table, and how you layered small things to bring as little or as much a hint of the coming season. The candle ring on the bed post is perfection to me.
Author
Awe Rita, thanks! That makes my day. Sometimes subtle isn’t in my nature but this time it turned out pretty well.
I was trying to find another word to describe your bedroom but I think soothing really is the best one! It looks like such a calming place to get your beauty sleep. I love your Fall touches, especially that leaves pillow! Sorry I’m late to taking your tour, time to got away from me!
Author
No worries Angelina! Glad you stopped by. Thanks for the sweet compliments too. ❤️
Cindy, You’ve used a few ideas I hadn’t thought of yet, like the candle ring added to different things around the house. Clever! Your bedroom really is soothing with just the right amount of fall touches.
Author
Clever?! Thanks! It’s always fun to hear that I’ve done something different. 😀
Cindy, your not-all-in bedroom decor is amazing and so relaxing! I imagine it’s a lovely place to relax with a good book and maybe even catch a nap. And that maple leaf pillow is amazing! So happy to be on the home tours with you!
Author
Super sweet of you to say Michelle. And yep! I do like taking naps in there! Although I never get the bed to myself. We have 3 dogs! Ugh
Love your subtle fall touches, Cindy! I love the idea of using books to bring in fall colors. There has been so much inspiration on this tour and I’m so honored to join all of you ladies!!
Author
It has been so fun seeing all the fall touches everywhere. Thank you Heather for visiting and you kind words. Happy FriYAY!
Cindy your soothing bedroom is so pretty! I didn’t even notice the wrinkles…but my bedspread is the same and it stresses me out to photograph it for blog posts. Now I realize it doesn’t matter! I thought your bed looked gorgeous and didn’t even think twice about wrinkles!
I love how you showed how the simple addition of the orange book makes all the difference in changing up a vignette to add seasonal color. Such a great tip!
I used to hold off on pumpkins until after labor day and major fall decor until after Sept. 15 but being a full time blogger now that is just not going to happen! I am having to start decorating earlier if I want to get any posts up in time for readers to be interested. By Sept. 15th they will be moved on to Christmas haha!
Thanks so much for sharing your pretty bedroom and transitional fall decor tips with us on this tour.
Have a great rest of summer and fall ahead!
Author
Thank you Amber. Glad I’m not the only one stressing about wrinkly bedding! You’ve encouraged me to say who cares! And we’ll be decorating in early September together! 😀. Enjoy the rest of your summer while you can. Thanks for your wonderful comments too. It means a lot.
Hi Cindy, you’ve really done subtle right! Pillows, candles, books; just the perfect way to transition without going over the top. It’s hard to get excited for Fall when it’s in the 90’s.
Author
So true Debra! I was so sweaty today (over 100 degrees) while doing a little fall stuff around here and hating it! #bloggerstruggles Thanks for stopping by and your sweet words. Happy Fall to you!
Lovely fall touches to your bedroom. I just adore your fall pillows!!
