It’s Pinterest Challenge Day and we are sharing gift wrapping ideas! This one took me a while so I hope you love each one as much as I do. I have 5 Christmas gift wrapping ideas with a vintage touch. And you know I love anything that has the word vintage in the description. If you’ve popped over from Decor to Adore, welcome and thanks for the visit!
Before I show off my wrapping skills I want you to know it took me half a day just to do these 5 gifts. Now I can help anyone with furniture placement, decor or accessory ideas but when it comes to wrapping, I’m stumped even though my second job in high school (circa 1983) was in the gift wrap department at the Stripling and Cox department store at Christmas time!
5 Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas with a Vintage Touch
You’d think I would have learned a thing or two. But they cheated. Customers would stand in a long line that intertwined through the stationary department. Why? Because back then all holiday gift wrapping was free. I think they were competing with Dillard’s. Honestly, it looked like a scene from the movie, Miracle on 34th Street.
Brown paper, vintage doily, black satin ribbon, twine and real greenery. I used double sided tape to secure each doily to paper.
When they finally got to the counter, I’d greet them with the biggest of smiles. Mostly because I had a job which meant only half days at school, a nice employee discount, and it was Christmas after all.
I’d take their multiple bags of items, put them on a personalized shelf and hand them a claim ticket.

The cheating comes in because behind the wall-o-shelves was a room filled with extra large wrapping stations. Each station had gobs of prewrapped boxes with matching bows. It felt like Santa’s Wonderland back there. They played music to keep us in a good mood. Coupled with homemade cookies made by little old ladies in the break room.
Because each box was prewrapped with ribbon, all we had to do was slap on a bow. See – cheating. I’ll admit, we could whip those gifts out like elves on steroids. And not only did they look perfect, they came with a matching gift tag. All the customer had to do was pick them up, handwrite the tag and take all the glory.

During my tenure at Stripling and Cox, I worked my way through every single department. From gift wrap, to the ladies department then to formalwear then accounting. A couple of years later I left my position of assistant buyer for lingerie. It was a great company to work for. But… I learned little about true gift wrapping.
Today, I say kudos to the person that invented gift bags. I believe they were invented for people like me; impatient, inept and clumsy. And I can’t cut a straight line if my life depended on it.

So, when I say these 5 Christmas gift wrapping ideas with a vintage touch are amazing, I mean I can’t believe I actually created such a beautiful package!
If you are wondering about my first job, let’s just say I was fired let go within 2 months. In my defense, they shouldn’t promote the good things and leave out the bad. If they would have been honest about it, I would have known not to take the job! But that’s an entirely different post. :/

I hope you saw some inspiring ideas and can hardly wait to implement one!

Cindy the black paper is so unexpected but truly elegant. I love the sweet touches such as the silver spoon paired with the doily. It’s like 3 gifts in one! Thank you so much for hosting. Have a happy Thanksgiving holiday!

My pleasure Niky. I am not a wrapper. More of a bagger but this has made me want to wrap things this year. Thanks friend.
