Hello friends! It’s time for June’s Pinterest Challenge and we are a bunch of patriotic people around here so we couldn’t go another day without sharing American Flag ideas. This one was a struggle this time around. Most days writing a post is as easy as pie but lately I feel most days if my brains were ink, I couldn’t dot an i. Ha, that rhymes. Anyway, today we will eat dessert first at a casual festive July 4th tablescape and then take a nap.
Eat Dessert First at a Casual Festive July 4th Tablescape
If you’ve hopped over from WM Design House, hello and thanks for stopping by. I pretty much love everything Wendy does and her wagon wheel wreath is no exception. She must have magic fingers.
If you aren’t familiar with a Pinterest Challenge, it happens the fourth Tuesday of each month and the group of us take one inspiration photo and recreate it to fit our own style. That means you get so many wonderful ideas from a single photo. This month there’s 14 ideas so let’s get started.
Liz Marie Blog
Even though our inspiration photo is from Liz Marie, it’s technically an “anything goes” flag challenge this month. Liz and her family are living the farmhouse dream up in Michigan and where that girl finds the furniture pieces to fill her home is mind blowing. I love the way she decorates (insert panting heart) too. It’s intentional and I think she’s a Middlist like me. Which btw, if you missed that post, click here to see what category you fit into.
I had grand plans of sharing our porchette this month but it’s been so hot (Wednesday it’s supposed to feel like 125 degrees) that I haven’t done a thing except add flags to the hanging door basket and stab a few in the grass around the driveway. Just doing that caused the need for another shower. Bleh.
Mini flags/toothpicks from Hobby Lobby
But then I was setting the table to serve a yummy fruit salad. When I stepped back I noticed it also had 3 glass jars with flags similar to the inspo photo. I was saved!
The eat dessert first portion of this post is a super easy recipe I’ll share at the bottom. I see a version of this salad all over Pinterest but mine is slightly different which I think makes it tastier.
One of my favorite Goodwill finds – red and white transferware
The table started with a set of red and white transferware chargers found at Goodwill for $4 dollars each. Yep, I said chargers. Each one has a different pattern. Honestly, I couldn’t believe no one had snatched them up. They aren’t vintage but I was on cloud 9 for days. That was back in early spring and I’ve been thinking about using them ever since. That’s how you know your money was well spent.
Do you like mixing dish patterns? I love it. That goes for napkins and table runners too. The adorable blue glass jars and blue and white bowls are from HomeGoods. They will come in handy for tons of summer holidays.
The modern “look alike” milk glass jars/ candle holders were an obvious choice since they sit on the table everyday. Switch out the white candle for red and voila, you have more patriotism. ๐ If you’d like to see the DIY for those jars, click here.
Well that’s the look of our Eat Dessert First at a Casual Festive July 4th Tablescape. I loved how it turned out. It’s perfectly patriotic and festive. Now here’s the recipe for the easy, light and fluffy fruit salad.
Cool Summer Fluffy Fruit Salad
Ingredients:
3.4 oz. Cheesecake flavored instant pudding (vanilla flavor will also work)
8 oz. of softened cream cheese
3/4 cup of milk
8 oz. Cool Whip
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 cup of fresh sliced strawberries
1 cup of fresh whole raspberries
1 cup of fresh whole blueberries
Half of an Angel Food cake cubed – optional
10 oz. of mini marshmallows – optional
Directions: Mix the first 3 ingredients together well. You don’t want it to feel gritty. Then add in the cool whip and mix just until blended. Gently fold in the fruit pieces. I also add the cubed angel food cake or marshmallows at this point. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and refrigerate for an hour. It will last in the fridge for about 3 days. Sometimes I leave out the mini marshmallows because my family doesn’t care for them. And sometimes I serve this as a dessert by plopping some on a piece of angel food cake instead of adding the cubes inside. Whether it’s a side dish or a dessert, it’s light, fluffy and fantastic!

Next up is Cindy at DIY Beautify. She always has something clever and beautiful up her sleave. Check it out and then come back to see the rest for a fun patriotic Pinterest Challenge. Happy Decorating/Entertaining my friends!
Uhg, Cindy. Just hearing about that heat makes me sweat! I can see why you opted for sharing your indoor decor instead. It is gorgeous, like always, though! And the dessert sounds great!

Pinned! Great pics!

Thanks so much Laura. I am ALWAYS looking for transferware and NEVER find any! That was my lucky day!
Oh, Cindy! Dessert is always best served first!!! ;)’ Love the glass jars, the new bowls and THOSE RED TRANSFERWARE CHARGERS!!!! Totally happily envious… I’ll have to look for some as they would look great with my small transferware collection, ha! <3 Love this dessert recipe, too! I'll have to make this next week for the 4th when we have Gramma over for lunch. Charles begins his new job the next day, so the evening will be light (and an early to bed for him!). Thank you for hosting!!!
Enjoy your beautiful table!
Hugs,
Barb ๐

Thank you Marty. I know you’ll love it. Hope you have a great July 4th celebration.
Cindy, what a pretty table. I love, love those blue bowls and the round glass vases. The red transfer ware was an awesome find. I’m jealous. Thanks for hosting.

Thank you Carol. I love me some Home Goods. You just never know what you’ll find in there. But when I find something I really like, I have to get it right then or it won’t be there next time. Just like the live wreaths at Costco. LOL.
SO PRETTY, Cindy!! I can’t believe you found those transfer chargers and at Goodwill of all places!! How amazing is that?! I love your table…it’s simple and minimal yet very festive. Happy 4th!!
Author
Thank you Rachel. I have this picture in my mind of some very young newlywed getting those chargers as a gift from grandma and couldn’t wait to get rid of them when she died. She will regret it when she gets older and her brain (and decorating taste) develops. LOLOLOL
Love your tablesetting, Cindy. Those blue bottles as a centerpiece are so amazing! You know I love anything with a flag in it!
Author
Yes! Whoever came up with that color combo in our flag is genius! Was it Betsy Ross? I wonder if Ms. Google knows? I’ll have to check and see. Thanks bunches Debra.
Cindy, don’t know why you fretted for an idea. Your last minute thought process was genius. So perfect from just right amount of patriotism to a beautiful table setting to a perfect holiday dessert. You are amazing at each challenge.. I absolutely love those blue bowls.. ..those are ” I want them” โค

Aww, thank you Susan. You made my day! I do like a challenge and usually fly by the seat of my pants on a daily basis. ๐ As for the bowls, head over to your local Home Goods. You might be able to find some. They were $6.99 for a set of 3.
Desert is what celebrating is all about and this looks so good! Your table centerpiece is pretty and easy, which I love. Stay cool my friend. It is almost that hot here.
Author
It’s been so hot I try and not go anywhere from 10 – 7. And even then it’s still hot. Looking forward to next week. I hear we are getting a cool front and it will be in the 90’s. I’ll take it! Thanks so much for the sweet comment Marlene. Stay cool!
Love the way you have layered your dishes, Cindy! The transferware chargers are amazing! Thanks for all you do!
Author
Thank you Kim. They are still out on the table and I love the way it all looks. I need to invite someone over so they can enjoy it too. ๐
Not long ago you told me, you wished you could perfect food photography. Well my friend you certainly have. Your photos are gorgeous, and I love every detail of your festive 4th of July tablescape. Great score on the plates! Can’t wait to try your recipe too!

I remember saying that Michelle and appreciate the encouragement. I have a long way to go. The Mister still grunts when I don’t pull out the extra big lights. I’m lazy and my motto has always been – meh, it’s good enough. It drives him crazy. Hahahahaha. Stay cool!
Love this dessert recipe Cindy! I have to try it. But I must say I too am drooling over your amazing plates for $4.00. What a great find.
And you styled them so beautifully.
Please text me your address. I have a wagon wheel for you :))))))

You will love the recipe Wendy. I practically ate the entire bowl by myself! I think the strawberry pretzel salad will be next on my list. That’s delicious too. You know, when you call it a salad it’s much healthier. LOL!
Is there a category between midalist and maximalist? Because I think that’s where I fit in! And boy do I need to drop some piles off at the thrift store! Your easy patriotic table is gorgeous, I’m swooning over those chargers! And yum, that salad sounds fantastic!
Author
Maybe you could call yourself an Uncondensed Middlist? That seems like it would work. ๐ Thanks for sweet comment. Hope you have a wonderful July 4th celebration. Heading to TN or staying in MS for that?
Super, super cute! I love the deals (steals) you found, and how you pulled it all together. That TX heat is truly unimaginable. God bless the man who invented air conditioning, and I hope and pray people can stay safe. Have a safe 4th weekend +.
Author
I say all the time I’m grateful to have been born after the invention of air-conditioning! You stay safe too and thank you Rita.
Your table is so cute and festive! Now you’ve got me wanting to set a whole table with my transferware and do all the layering…cuz I haven’t played with it that way yet;) But…think I may need a “couple” more red and white transferware salad plates to make it work?? Then I could try your yummy “salad” recipe that sure sounds more like dessert to me! Stay cool, friend!
Author
Yes, you need more plates! I love layering and playing with plates. I find it just as fun as when I rearranged the fish tank we had in middle school. They liked change too. ๐ And if you call it a fruit salad, it has less calories and sounds more healthy. LOL. Have fun this weekend!
Cindy,
I love dessert first. Such a cute tablescape.
Author
Thanks Rachel. I think it’s the best. Especially when cake is involved. ๐
I LOVE your table, Cindy! IMHO, it’s understated RWB… My twist would be to use some RWB diy flags. ๐ And the recipe is a winner, as well. I’m gonna have to make some of those ‘candle holders’! Pinned!
Author
Thanks bunches Julie. It’s going to be perfect this weekend and the cut branches still look great even after almost 2 weeks! Have a great weekend.
Love, love, love this gorgeous tablescape, Cindy! I am over the moon excited for you about those chargers too. I tell ya, the heat is getting super scary. I’m glad you’re celebrating indoors so you can be nice and cool. It’s the best way to celebrate! Loving and pinning these fabulous ideas sweet friend. Big hugs, CoCo

I heard a cool front was coming and it would be in the 90’s. Still a big fat bleh but it’s better. Thank you for the sweet comment CoCo. It made my day. Enjoy your weekend as well and stay inside!
