7 charming ideas for a vintage look when creating a summer garden

Hey there!  Summer is upon us and one of my favorite activities is driving around (with the a/c blowing full blast) in quaint neighborhoods with old houses and distinctive gardens.  IF, and that’s a big if, we were to actually do anything with the landscape at the farmhouse we would use these 7 charming ideas for a vintage look when creating a summer garden.

7 charming ideas for a vintage look when creating a summer garden!

old wheelbarrow with rosesBackyard Boss

I’ve seen lots of wheelbarrows in various ways.  Some are wooden, some with no wheels and some even turned on their sides with flowers spilling out.  We don’t have an old wheelbarrow so I’ll be looking for one while we are out and about.  I do however have this giant beauty!

Still no clue what it was used for.  It’s heavy, has two fairly large wheels on the back, two smaller wheels on the front and the drum is about 32 inches deep.  Anyone have any idea what it could be?  Please tell me!

4 old door knobs hanging with dried flowersLittle Rusted Ladle

I’ve only seen vintage door knobs once or twice and both times they were used as knobs on a gate.  We have a couple of places we could do this at the farmhouse.  Our laundry room/well house is a short walk in the backyard.  Maybe there or we also have some wild flowers growing next to a galvanized shed.  I think hanging these on the side wall above the flowers would be perfect and the best place to dry them.  Don’t you?!

You can’t go wrong with container gardening and these hanging crates are darling.  Especially if you’re like me and like change.  I say like change but the truth is, who wouldn’t love the idea of not being on their knees or breaking their back while hunching over the garden?!  Uum, I’m raising both hands, thank you very much.

red bike against tree with flowersGingham Gardens

I realize y’all have seen lots of bikes in gardens but it’s because they add so much charm!  I see rusty bikes at just about every junk store I enter.  Adding a basket full of flowers and leaning it up against a tree or fence is some serious cuteness in my book.  If it’s extra rusty, glue on some moss to the bikes frame or just over the wheels and handle bars.  Gaaaah, so cute!

There are two reasons I adore this garden idea.  When I first saw it I was drawn into another life.  A romantic life where I could see myself and the Mister having lunch, laughing and wandering around lush gardens with ponds that had fountains (even though they had no running electricity) and ginormous oak trees.  Yeah, another life, inside a movie.  But the other reason was the idea of the empty frame with a bucket of flowers.  I know just the place to do this at the farmhouse!

I haven’t seen many birdcages (real or fake) inside gardens but I love the idea.  I cherish the birdcages I have around the house but can’t part with where they are now so this is another thing I’ll be looking for this thrifty shopping season.

bucket with antique dishes and white flowersRooted in Thyme

Y’all, this is one of the cutest things ever.  Imagine this galvanized bucket inside a garden.  The little white flowers are like bubbles.  And finishing it off with an old washboard is genius.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s how I used the galvanized buckets we have around the farmhouse a couple of years ago.  They turned out to be one of my favorite looks.  If you’d like to see more of that post, click here.

Well, did you enjoy these 7 charming ideas for a vintage look when creating a summer garden?  Basically, it’s like accessorizing your outdoor spaces too.  Will you be trying to incorporate some of them while gardening this year?  My shopping/thrifting list is long but I’m excited to get started.

Happy summertime friends and happy gardening!

LOL. It’s not all that exciting. It could be fabulous one day but the present infrequent visits are sometimes torture. ๐Ÿ™‚
