Spread the love

Autumn is almost upon us and like most everyone else I know, I couldn’t be more thrilled.  We had a cool snap all weekend but we are supposed to get close to 100 degrees again later this week.  That’s not stopping my giddy anticipation or any fall decorating at my house.  If you enjoy using thrifted or vintage pieces here are 5 vintage-loving ideas to use when decorating for fall.

5 Vintage-Loving Ideas To Use When Decorating For Fall

Idea #1 – Shop around for a vintage tablecloth or use a quilt with fall colors.  Don’t be afraid to use it outdoors.  If you are worried about stains, just be careful with what you serve.  I won’t serve wine or melting chocolate.  I promise using a beautiful tablecloth will change the mood.  Even if the temperatures aren’t cooperating.  Plus, you can use Scotchgarde to help control stains.

Idea #2 – Clear jugs or bottles are super handy.  Snip a few stems from bushes or trees and you’re in business.  It’s a very inexpensive way to create a quick and informal centerpiece.

Amber bottles, green bottles, and colored Mason jars would look great on your table.  And if you want more ambiance add candles or tealights.

Idea #3 – I enjoy using wooden dough bowls to corral items like napkins and silverware.  It keeps things casual and looks nice when you also add vintage dishes to create a simple centerpiece.  To do this, have at least one tall item in the middle and work around it with utilitarian pieces you plan to use.  Like plates, bowls, napkins, etc.  Throw in a few plastic pumpkins and you’re ready for guests.

If you don’t have a dough bowl, a vintage tray or cutting board will also work.  Anything in a warm wood color.  Then when you are sitting at the table and the plates have been passed around, you can use it as a trivet.

Idea #4 – An antique tool caddy is charming and a unique decor item.  Use it for a centerpiece or on a side table with extra fall goodies.  You an fill them with things like owls, pumpkins, apples, gourds, mini mums, pears, pinecones, etc.  Or what about a collection of candlesticks?  The juxtaposition between the two would look amazing.

Idea #5 – I love using crocks.  They hold plants, candles, rolling pins, napkins, utensils, flowers, paper towels, soaps, pumpkins, gourds, magazines or office supplies.  They hold all the things!  The buttery yellow and darkest of browns might be my favorite.  And if they have a chip, that’s even better.  I don’t know if it’s the substantial weight, the colors or the material they are made of but I adore crocks.

If these 5 vintage-loving ideas to use when decorating for fall aren’t for you, you can always use the standard baskets, candlesticks, cloches, terracotta pots, crates or boxes, dinnerware, etc.

As long as you are happy with your home decor, then your home decor will make you happy every time you walk in the room.  Make sense?  Be you and be true when creating your own niche.  πŸ˜‰

Great ideas Cindy, I especially love those handled glass bottles/jugs! We had some gorgeous fall weather on the weekend but temps are creeping back up.

Thank you Ms. Cindy. I almost gave those bottles away but now I use them quite a bit. I like that they are hefty in weight so I don’t have to worry about them blowing over if by some miracle we get a gust of wind. πŸ˜‰

I see on social media SO MANY designers and other people saying don’t use this, never put this in your house, I’d never have that… It makes me crazy! Thanks so much for the encouragement MaryJo. Truly appreciate it.

Cindy, I love the idea of the galvanized carrier holding the littles for fall – a nice, compact way of filling and toting wherever you want a pop of fall. And that cake crock – sublime. I love it!
