Hello Friends!  Around here we still have at least one more month of hot weather.  And even though I’m totally over it, I still want my summer decor to look refreshing and give me a cool summer vibe.  So here are 5 tips to freshen up your summer decor.  The best part being, the ideas are practically free!  They just might get me through the rest of summer without complaint?

Hahahahaha – yeah right!

Tip # 1 – Move Around the Greenery

Sometimes just changing things around can make a nice difference in the way you see things.  Look at the picture above.  I can change the entire candle or add a ribbon around the body of the candle or outside the glass container for a different look.  Changing out the beans to something more colorful works too or I could even change the candle out for a lamp.  The post linked here shows how I use greenery balls in my decor.  You might get a few ideas by checking that out as well.

Tip #2 – Don’t Forget the Evenings

So many times when we envision summer decor we think about the bright sunshiny days.  Well evening can be just as fun.  Light some of those candles you have tucked away in your cabinets.  Find a tray or plate and clump together several different sizes to make a nice glow in a room.  You could place one on the coffee table or line them up on the mantel.  Candles can always put me in a better mood.  It’s like a relaxing bubble bath or reading in a chair with my favorite scent.  Mmmm, yes please.

Tip #3 – Plump It Up

Remove the seat cushions on your sofa or chairs and vacuum underneath them.  Cushions start to sag and look frumpy after a while.  Your throw pillows can look stale too.  Add filler if you need too or a vigorous shake will help.  You may be surprised what a little fluffing can do for a room.  😉

Tip #4 – Rearrange the Pillows

If you’ve been using your pillows in the same space for the entire season, change things up.  Move the pillows on the sofa to the chairs or the accent pillows in your bedroom to the living room.  Sometimes, I simply turn them around so I can see the backside instead.  If you’d like a few ideas on styling your sofa pillows, click here!

Tip #5 – Fresh Flowers

Last but not least, get a few fresh flowers at the grocery store.  This idea costs a teeny bit but always puts a smile on my face when I need a pick me up from the summer blahs.  I also choose cooler colors instead of the warmer shades.  I don’t know about you, but I need all the cooling help I can get.

Hope these 5 tips to freshen up your summer decor help as we sweat live out the rest of the season.  😉  Soon it will be autumn and I’m super excited about that!

Happy Decorating Friends!

Great post Cindy. I’m getting ready to bring Limelights inside. They are huge blooms and gorgeous. I love drying them too.

Just wrote a post showing some treasures I have and love in the kitchen.

I’m over summer but don’t want to rush life along.

Great advice! My favorite was adding fresh flowers. Always a good idea, no matter the time of year. Your tablescape in the breakfast room is so pretty! Love the teal. I’m pretty sure I was with you when you purchased the placemats, and you were shopping for a winter table. They look great now, too. Fun read.

I swear, we really don’t eat on the couch so I’m wondering why I find crumbs and other crap under there?! Must be those dang kids! LOL
