Do you look back at photos from years past to remember how you decorated your porch? I do. Usually, I attempt to decorate a little differently each year but also like to reuse what I already have. It definitely saves money! As I was checking back I came across several looks I enjoyed and thought I’d share them with you again. So, here are 5 simple fall Farmhouse style porch ideas to create coziness.
5 Simple Fall Farmhouse Style Porch Ideas to Create Coziness
Besides the obvious comfy seating, there are 5 more “usuals” I like to add when decorating for Autumn.
Farmhouse Style #1
I’ve used a trunk and a stool before and sometimes have gone without anything but I like having some place to put my tea or coffee down. A bale of hay makes a great coffee table and/or ottoman. If you get the good hay, you can give it to most farm animals. But if you want to make it even less expensive, by a bundle of straw instead.
We buy the yummy stuff and feed it to the animals so there’s minimal waste. Actually, we have to rope off the steps so our big animals don’t try climbing on the porch to grab a nibble.
Farmhouse Idea #2
Incorporate old containers to highlight mums or pumpkins. Each year I incorporate antique crocks, galvanized buckets or large milk cans for interest. That’s more interesting than plopping them down on the table.
As a bonus, they are heavy enough to hold things in place so they don’t blow away during a storm.
Farmhouse Style Idea #3
To create coziness add a ladder with extra quilts, blankets. You could also stack them in a wagon or wheel barrow. I think I’d like to try that idea this year. I have to find a wheelbarrow first. It’s nice to have a little extra something to help with the chilly air.
Farmhouse Style Idea #4
Why not use a larger rug instead of just a door mat? Door mats can make a happy statement. Especially if they have a funny saying or cute print on them. But besides the obvious warmth underfoot, a rug will pull the porch together and create a “room”.
Farmhouse Style Idea #5
Fill in large empty areas with smaller vignettes. Try plants, pumpkins, gourds, etc. Cornstalks are a must for me. It’s like jewelry for any porch or porchette. Even if you have a stoop – add cornstalks! You will love it and they truly pull any look together.
So do you think you’d like to incorporate these 5 simple fall Farmhouse style fall porch ideas to create coziness? If you don’t have a full porch, but have a porchette, consider adding one chair with a pillow and blanket. And a lantern filled with mini pumpkins any maybe a mum to pull it all together.
But what if you have a stoop? Go for cornstalks, a pumpkin and a pretty doormat. If you have a light fixture or mailbox hanging near by, add a coordinating ribbon around it. And don’t forget the door!
Add something interesting there. All of these ideas are exciting, will look perfectly festive, and be just as cozy as a full porch.

Cindy, I love your wonderful country porch. The pumpkin on the milk can is iconic!! My pumpkin source is gone and I’m at a loss for pretty pumpkins. The wildlife are relentless here anyway. It all gets chewed and nibbled withun just a few days. Have a super LD weekend!

Oh wow, we’ve never had to worry about wild life nibbling away at our pumpkins. Except for the Year-O-The-Crickets! Since then, I usually spray the porch area with bug spray every once in a while. Seems to do the trick. Hope you have a wonderful weekend too. I’m hitting the thrift and antique stores!
I have found very cute fake pumpkins and have made yarn ones For the porch.

Yarn pumpkins?! I love it! Especially because you made them. I need to give that a try. Bring on the fall Cynthia!
How cute are all these ideas and some are so cozy for cooler weather. I was just sitting on my screened-in porch and you made me see I hardly have anything cozy on it yet. Thanks Cindy and have a great Labor Day weekend!

Well you have plenty of time Marlene. I’m anxiously waiting for the pumpkins to arrive. But even if they arrived tomorrow, I wouldn’t buy them. It’s still so hot and my neighbors would have rolling eyes and words that I don’t want to hear. Thanks for the visit Marlene and I hope your weekend is perfect.
I love all of the pretty fall ideas, Cindy. I have an old creamer can, so I’m going to be borrowing your idea to put a pumpkin on top. I don’t know why I never thought of that before!

That’s funny Jen. Glad you found some inspiration here! Happy LD weekend.
Doesn’t anyone have an original style anymore?? Farmhouse. How everywhere & boring.
All of it looks dopey.

What would you consider original style? I can’t imagine a decorating style that hasn’t already been done. I’ve lived and seen so many styles that have come back around that there’s nothing new under the sun.
You might think Farmhouse style looks dopey and unoriginal but consider decorating an almost 100 year old farmhouse. What if that home was decorated with contemporary furnishings inside. Would that be original? You may think so but it would seem quite out of place. The furnishings should work with the style of home.
It’s perfectly normal to use old, inexpensive, authentic or authentic-looking pieces to style such an old farmhouse. Especially if that fits the style of home.
All that said and most importantly, around here we encourage others to style their homes with what they love no matter what style it is.
If you dislike and think farmhouse is everywhere, that’s okay and your opinion. Everyone should be able to decorate their surroundings with what brings them joy when they walk through that door.
Thank you for your comment. Hope you have an enjoyable week.
