Hey friends! I‘m joining some of my favorite bloggers for Lifestyle of Love. A bi-monthly hop for those of us that enjoy vintage things, repurposed items, antiques and good ol’ junk. In case you’re inspired to get the same look in your home, our themes are typically found in the best places. Like thrift stores, antique stores or on the side of the road. This time the theme is milk glass so I have 5 lovely decorating ideas with affordable old milk glass to share.
5 Lovely Decorating Ideas With Affordable Old Milk Glass
If you’ve landed here from Postcards from the Ridge, welcome! Wasn’t Angie’s collection simply fabulous?! I can hardly wait to find more pieces.
As I think waaaay back to high school days and my super cute Laura Ashley bedroom with matching wallpaper, milk glass would have been adorable in there. But back then I thought milk glass was ugly. What a doofus. I was more concerned about Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, roller skating, ski trips and going to Amy Grant concerts. Those were some fun times.
Decor Idea #1 – Milk glass dish as office supply holder
40 years later, after growing up, getting married, having babies, moving to a new city, changing churches and 3 high school graduations, I figured out what I liked. I realized my vibe was different than most but no biggie. Now I’m wishing I had kept many of my mother-in-laws things after she passed away. I can’t believe I’m saying this but her decorating style was cool. Well, some of it. LOL, my kids would roll on the floor laughing if they heard me say that.
Decor Idea #2 – Milk glass serving bowl and upgrading the utensil holder
Just recently I started collecting milk glass. Mostly because I love the color. White works with everything! Any pieces I’ve purchased have been under $7. Totally my kind of collectible. Each piece can be used as they were intended or for something slightly more useful. Like using the same small vase/dish as an office supply holder or a table top utensil holder.
Decor Idea #3 – Using a milk glass candy dish as a book end
I enjoy using a milk glass candy dish as a book end. This is one of those spots you could use anything. But when I want less color, this works perfectly.
Decor Idea #4 – Using a milk glass pitcher for flowers
You know why I like using this pitcher for flowers instead of orange juice or any other liquid? Because it feels like it weighs 50 pounds when it’s full! Although it has a nice pour (no dribbles), you can’t reach across to the next person and fill a glass without dropping it or breaking something. So filling it only 1/3 of the way with water and flowers is the way to go for me.
Decor Idea #5 – Use milk glass as place cards and personal vase
My favorite way to use the tiny creamers is as an individual place setting vase/place card. Wouldn’t you love sitting there and realize you have your own individual mini vase of flowers too?! I would and I did! You can always keep them or send each guest home with one. They make great gifts!
Okay, those are my 5 lovely decorating ideas with affordable old milk glass. Did you see anything you hadn’t thought of? Maybe see a piece you want to find on your next outing? As a bonus, here’s a fun idea for making something look like milk glass when you don’t have the real deal or want a more updated look.
I found clear glass vases at Hobby Lobby last year and painted the bottom. You can certainly dip the entire thing and make them look like full milk glass. You can see that DIY here and again, you don’t have to use them as they were intended. I love using mine as candle holders too!
Next up on the Lifestyle of Love hop is Debra from Common Ground. You will love what she does with her milk glass. Don’t forget to visit the other posts below to see more great pieces and ideas! Happy collecting and decorating friends!
So many fabulous ideas and pieces of milk glass Cindy! It’s so fun that you wish you would have kept some of your MIL home decor. My Mom had an amazing tufted chair from her country blue and mauve phase that I would have loved to have. It’s probably with the stenciled geese in a thrift store now but I could have totally rocked the pink at my house. Sending you lots of hugs and thank you for putting this hop together, CoCo

lol CoCo! Does, or did she ever, have the country blue geese dishes?! My MIL did and all the serving pieces. Something I still don’t want but she had a goose planter I totally wish I had now. π Oh the brains we wish we would have had back then.
Your milk glass pitcher is an impressive piece and I love how it looks holding flowers! Pinning!

It’s so stinkin’ heavy even by itself but a great big thank you Michelle. It has its prominent place in the hutch.
Haha, yes, l had this same pitcher in my milk glass collection. You are so right about how heavy it is. Westmoreland, I think. It’s been a while (2006) since I lost my extensive collection in our house fire. I still admire other people’s collections.

I know it’s been a while but that must have been devastating. My heart hurts for you. If you ever want someone to go shopping with, just let me know! Finding friends with the same likes is hard.
Cindy
I loved all your creative ideas. Those DIY vases/candlesticks reminded me that I forgot to show my ideas of using milk glass vases as candlesticks π€ͺ. Plus it also reminded me of a DIY project I planned last year and have never completed! I need to be more organized. Thanks for hosting today.
Author
Ha! I do that all the time. And as much as you do on a daily basis… You are totally organized in my book! Thanks bunches Rachel.
Your sister-in-law is cracking up about the comment you made about keeping more of mom’s treasures! Not something I thought I would ever hear you say.

I thought of you too when I said that and still can’t believe it even crossed my mind. But there’s waaaaay more crap I don’t wish for than there is a wish list. lol.
That pitcher is gorgeous. The etched pattern is really beautiful. Love the little creamers with baby’s breath(?) so sweet for a luncheon! Thanks for putting together the hop, it’s causing me to look at milkglass in a new way!

New ways is what it’s all about! I do the same. That’s the biggest reason I adore these hops. Well that and I like to go to antique stores! π Thank you Debra!
I love vintage milk glass and love how you’ve styled yours, Cindy. Thanks for the inspiration, my friend.

Oh how I love milk glass, especially the bumpy ones, is that hobnail? You have found some real treasures and I am loving how you use them in your home! My favorite is those little creamer place cards filled with flowers… but can we just stop for a sec and admire the floral dishes and napkins you paired them with! So lovely my friend β€οΈ

Yep, it’s called hobnail. I think it’s interesting to look at up close. The color really looks like milk. lol. And I too love those the dishes and napkins. Wish we could use them everyday but we are way to hard on stuff so they are saved for when the ladies come over. π Thank you so much!
I love milk glass and can never get enough. Love all of your styling ideas Cindy.

I love the look of milk glass. I’ve DIY a few Dollar Tree pieces to look like milk glass since I haven’t been able to find any as of yet at our local thrift stores. You’re right, the pieces are so versatile & can be used for every season!
